This historic Fort Screven structure has been fully restored and thoughtfully renovated. Redesigned by Layla Palmer of The Lettered Cottage, a recipient of the Tybee Island Historic Society Preservation Award, this remarkable home blends timeless character with fresh coastal style. Originally built as one of three Mess Halls for the fort, it has lived many lives—including a memorable chapter as a boarding house.
This beautiful home offers 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, open living, dining, and kitchen areas, and a large screened in porch. Enlisted Men's Mess Hall also features tall ceilings with ceiling fans, extra large windows in every room, hardwood floors and did we mention wrap around screened porch.
Located in the historic north end of Tybee, where the beach is close by and the streets are very walkable, this is part of a duplex with Screened Inn on the other side with its own private entrance. These 2 duplexes can be rented individually or together.
The outdoors area of this property features a fenced-in yard with beautiful landscaping, including large palms and live oaks.
Two blocks from the North Beach, 5 minutes from the Tybee Light House Station and the North Beach Bar and Grill restaurant. The Jaycee Park (ball fields, walking path, playground) is located directly behind the home.
Ground level, easy to access, pet-friendly.
Complimentary off-street parking for 2 cars. Parking is parallel to the white picket fence on the grass or you can pull into the right side of the picket fence.

Loved being on the Northside of the island. A 5 min walk to north beach and the lighthouse. The cottage was clean and quiet. Coffee on the porch, walks around the park. A great place to stay! The Mermaids left a lovely welcome note and helped us with a special family celebration

As is always the case, The Enlisted Mens Mess Hall didn't disappoint. Again. This was our 8th stay at the Mess Hall and The Mermaids made it perfect. We love the porch and rockers and always spend so much time out there solving the world's problems! The walk to the beach is enjoyable through the little "jasmine tunnel". Thank you, Mermaids for providing us with the perfect place for a perfect 5 days on Tybee. :)

House was so cute with amazing history. The hosts could not have been more accommodating. They even turned the porch lights on for us when they learned we would arrive after dark! Highly recommend Mermaid Cottages and this house. We walked everywhere and others staying in the neighborhood were all friendly and respectful. The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely Historic Cottage

My stay in the Enlisted Men’s Mess Hall came at a wonderful time to be away from my frozen home in TN. As a retired history teacher I enjoyed staying in a home so rich with history. It was fun to imagine the many soldiers who were fed within its walls when Ft. Screven was an active Army post. The interior of the home has been beautifully refurbished with a gorgeous screened in porch wrapping around the outside. I love to stay on the north end of Tybee. This cottage was an easy walk to the park, the beach, and the Tybee Light. I have already reserved a time to return next year.

Tybee Perfection
Spotlessly clean, comfortable and full of old Tybee charm. Quiet location near the lighthouse and easy stroll to the beach. Loved this well-appointed and homey spot!

Perfect Spot for a Tybee Vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Enlisted Men's Mess Hall! The location was very convenient to the beach and to other things on Tybee Island as well. The cottage was cute and well appointed and the property owners were available as needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Gorgeous cottage
We absolutely loved our stay at the Mess Hall Cottage. The kitchen was well equipped, the porch was a lovely place to spend our non-beach time and the beach was just a short walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely lovely!
We had a wonderful time at Tybee! The listing was exactly as described. Mermaid cottages checked in with us to ensure we had all we needed. Would absolutely stay again!!
