The Cottage Is A Renovated Wing Of An Old Victorian Gate Lodge Of Ashford Castle

We welcome you to Ashford Old Schoolhouse in the beautiful surroundings of Ashford Estate and Cong village between Loughs Corrib and Mask. Enjoy the stay in our historical cottage built by the Guinness family in 1853. Surrounded by endless woodland walking and cycling paths and bordering the beautiful grounds and gardens of Ashford Castle hotel. Cong village with pubs and restaurants is just a 20 minute walk through the estate.

We are glad to offer professionally guided fishing for brown trout and Atlantic salmon. We provide a full angling service which includes guiding, boat rental and fly-fishing tuition. There is lots to do in the area for the whole family - horse riding, zip lining, golfing, falconry, archery and boat trips all within 5 minute walk. The area of Cong and Connemara is stunning for sightseeing, hill walking, beaches and little villages with cosy pubs. Kylemore Abbey, Clifden, Galway city and Westport all within less than an hours drive

Accommodation is situated in renovated wing of old Ashford Castle gate lodge with separate entrance, garden and parking. Double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/living room with wood burning stove downstairs. Triple bedroom with 3 single beds upstairs and a bathroom upstairs. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

We had wonderful stay the cottage is cosy and warm with great woid burning stove. Beautiful walks on the estate and hikes too! We had lovely three nights and would recommend to all. Both Frank & Kersti are great hosts we'll be back to catch that trout!

The ideal place to stay

My wife and I stayed for a week and couldn’t have been happier with the location and accommodations. Quiet, secure, and very clean. We won’t stay anywhere else when returning to this area of Ireland.

We had an excellent stay at the Old Schoolhouse near Ashford Castle. Frank and Kersti were wonderful hosts who provided outstanding communication before and during our stay. They shared great recommendations for the area and made the check-in process seamless and easy.The property is wonderful and is in a fantastic location, within walking distance of downtown Cong, where we enjoyed the charming shops and local pubs. There was plenty to see and do right nearby, while the property also served as an ideal base for exploring Galway and many of the surrounding attractions in the region.We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Warm and cozy, exactly what we were hoping for.

Location was perfect for doing the Falconry. A must do while staying. Close to Cong and driving through the castle upon entering and leaving was magical.

Best Place We Stayed

We stayed at The Old School House for 5 nights in October. It was like something out of a fairytale! The house is a small little place in Ashford Castle grounds, which is breath taking! We will definitely be staying here again!!

Fabulous place with walking distance to Ashford Castle

We had any amazing time in Cong! This was exactly as described. Spent time walking around Ashford Castle and even did some wine tasting at the castle.

The renovated school was beautiful

Our stay at the cottage was wonderful. We were 4 adults & we had plenty of room. kitchen was well stocked so we could cook & everything was comfortable. Communication was excellent being so close to the castle was extra fun. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

Amazing cottage!

The cottage was exactly exactly as stated. Everything you could need was there. In the Ashford Castle Estate with access to the grounds and a short/beautiful walk to Cong. Would stay here again!

Ashford Cottage

This is a charming cottage in the perfect location. The combination of the original stone walls, hardware floors and the spiral staircase makes this cottage so unique and cozy.

Magical retreat

Peace and tranquility in a magical setting

The cottage is beautiful, Owners are lovely and always available for questions and assistance, never intrusive. Walking in the Ashford Estate gardens and paths through old growth trees, bushes and flowers is an unbelievable delight. This was our second stay and again a delight.

Very Charming

Frank and Kersti were very helpful in answering questions and helping connect us with a local pub to hold a birthday celebration. The cottage is extremely charming and the nearby town of Cong has some very cute shops and nice restaurants. Would stay here again.

Lovely cottage in a great location

We thoroughly enjoyed are stay. The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and clean. Frank and Kersi were great hosts. There are lovely walks around the grounds and down to the lake. Cong was quiet although I guess it will get busier as the season progresses. We look forward to a return visit.

Ireland adventure x 2

The cottage was magical. So quaint and beautiful. It was well laid out and was just perfect for the two of us. We loved being so close to the Ashford Castle and walking to the Falconry for a great adventure with the hawks! The hosts were great and welcoming and we felt we had our own private space the whole time there. It was another special time in Ireland for us and we love to get back soon!

Stunning location, beautiful wee house

Just driving through the castle grounds to this house was a treat. The house itself was just a picture. The best stay in Ireland North and south that we have had to date and we are both over 50 and 60. The location is stunning, the quietness and peaceful nature. Nothing to dislike and everything to love.

Perfect Tranquility 😀

Just back from a week at the Old Schoolhouse and I can confirm accuracy of all other 5* Reviews. The house is an absolute Gem set in the most perfect location. The grounds are beautiful for a morning/evening stroll (10 mins walk to Cong Village) and the Hospitality that Frank & Kersti provide is next to none. Until next time!

Simply Lovely

Old Schoolhouse was delightful from beginning to end! Every darling detail is perfect in the house. Quiet, hearing the birds and sheep in the morning. Trails everywhere to hike, the lake, Ashford Castle and all it has to offer, with options of fishing and boat tours, falconry school, horse back riding and more. The perfect active get away.
