Large, private beautiful house with tennis court

This large secluded Victorian house has breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside towards Rye. Inside rooms are light and airy. The property has just undergone a total restoration and refurbishment. Period features have been lovingly restored and the ambiance of the family home maintained. The house is surrounded by three quarters of an acre of enclosed gardens and in addition there is a fenced, hard tennis court. The south facing brick paved terrace is a gorgeous suntrap with lots of flexible seating. The driveway provides parking for at least four cars.

The property was perfect for our girls get together, cosy, comfortable and nestled down a quiet country lane but just a 7 minute drive to the beautiful town of Rye. The kitchen had everything we needed and more including the extra little touches of wash up sponges and dishwasher tablets. The towels and linen provided were clean and plentiful and all the bedrooms were well appointed.Our only slight issue was that the garden furniture was looking a little tired so we didn't spend much time enjoying the outside space, though we did have a couple games of tennis.Overall we would highly recommend a stay at The Highlands.

Beautiful, old, quirky, character house. Extremely well equipped in the kitchen. Beds very comfortable. The grounds are perfect for relaxing in as well as enjoying a game of tennis. We had a wonderful time, as a family of 11, celebrating an 80th birthday. We enjoyed spending time together in the garden, listening to the birds and watching the wildlife.

Thoroughly enjoyable

A lovely, characterful property. Lots of outdoor space for children to run around and do an Easter Egg Hunt.Rooms were a nice size and spacious.Communication with the host was easy, she was helpful and always responded quickly to any queries we had in the run up to the booking.

Cosy Family Trip

We booked The Highlands for a family birthday trip and really enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortably large enough for our 4 person group but also really cosy with a great kitchen and dining room for preparing meals. We didn't get a chance to use the tennis courts but maybe next time!

Knitting in Rye

Our stay in Highlands was as lovely as last year! It is very well equipped, warm, comfortable, spacious and in a beautiful location. We love that we can all sit around in the living room knitting, and we can walk to Rye, walk on the beaches, walk in the bird sanctuary. We have already booked for next year!

Great place to stay.All you could want for an extended family weekend.House and garden couldn't be better.Lots to do without leaving the grounds yet if you do.......Lovely countryside and interesting places very local to the house.Award winning wines just a stones throw away.Great beech ten minutes by car.Historic towns an villages all aroundPity the local pub is closed and up for sale

Great weekend for 2 night break with friends. Huge amount of crockery, cutlery etc. 8 of us so 2 bathrooms at times was a little difficult, on the last day the boiler kept tripping out meaning we had to have cold showers. It was cold when we arrived, but the heating soon kicked in and the open fire was a good addition, with lots of logs in the wood store. Ample parking for 4 cars, comfy beds and clean crisp linen. Overall a very good value break, the house a little dated in parts but for the money it catered well for our group. Do not go to the Kings Head in Playden however, food was terrible!Rye was a short drive and lots of good things to do locally, nice walks and a convenient shop a stone throws to the house.

We stayed at the Highlands for our family Christmas. The house was comfortable and very well equipped. In fact the kitchen was probably the best equipped of any holiday rental we have ever had, which was just what we needed for all the Christmas cooking! A real Christmas tree was in place and decorated for us, which was a lovely touch.The Highlands is set in lovely countryside, not far from Rye, a quaint, characterful and charming town which we fell in love with.The Highlands is a big, Victorian house, so cold and draughty in winter. That being said, there were no restrictions on using the central heating, no shortage of blankets, and plenty of wood to throw on the fire in the sitting room.Before, during and after our stay, Hilary the host was always responsive and helpful.

Was beautiful house to stay in. Plenty of room to move around.Very cosy living room to chill out and also large dining table to eat and chat.Spotless bedding and towels and downstairs bathroom was huge.KItchen was very well equipped and very grateful for the dishwasher!The garden was on sunlight all day and lots of room to enjoy.

Great house

We had such a great time at this house. Plenty room although lounge could be a bit bigger for larger groups. Everything you need here. Croquet and tennis was fab. Totally secure garden for dogs. Beds very comfortable. Q0 mins drive to camber sandals and 6 mins to lovely Rye. Would highly recommend this property.

4-day break with friends

We are a group of friends of many years standing who go away together for a few days every year. This house fitted our needs exactly - enough space inside and out, well equipped, good location, comfortable beds in good sized rooms. Couldn't have been better.

Fantastic house in a beautiful location

We stayed at Highlands as a group of friends. The house is well set up for friends with lots of single beds. The kitchen is very well equipped and the essentials like toilet roll, soap, washing up liquid, tea towels are provided. The garden is large with plenty of space for a game of croquet (also provided) and the tennis courts were great too. Communication with the owner was great; always quick to respond and helpful. The area is beautiful with a small village about half a mile away and the lovely Rye a 5-10 min drive away, plus stunning beaches not much further. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back.

Truly home from home!

We had a most enjoyable weekend at the house. It was clean and comfortable with everything you could want or need, from well stocked cupboards of books and toys, to tennis racquets for the tennis court and plenty of the essentials. Thank you for a lovely stay.
