Really great riverside break

We had a lovely stay with 3 families. Plenty of space, all the amenities and amazing access to the river. Would love to go back with friends again.

Great place to stay with plenty of space to relax.

We booked this place (as well as another down the road) to use to host our sales away days with the intent to walk the crossing. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas but we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and our hosts were very accommodating with early checkins and late check outs.

Beautiful setting and suited for a large group

Ideal for families as there are many zones for guests (including kids) to interact without being crowded. The Tongariro river is a few hundred metres from the property. Easy access to the Tongariro River trail

Awesome property with plenty of amenities, space and very well kept. Beautiful inside and out. Very helpful owners. Will happily go again.

Amazing riverside lodge

We loved staying here, plenty of room for everyone. Lots of space to kick a ball around, cook a meal and play articulate. Super close to Tūrangi and great amenities at the house. Highly recommended. Thanks so much!

An excellent base for Turangi

Three friends stayed at the house for a weeks fishing. To be honest it couldn't have been better. Roughly five minute drive to to the town and the house has everything you need to be comfortable - wood burner, heat pump and fully equipped kitchen. The river is a two minute walk from the back of the property (lower pools). Thoroughly recommend staying here.

A relaxed family away place

The all-wood interior gives the house a nice lodge feel, different to home, and the quality is generally good. Nice beds, and a good kitchen. There were 14 of us there, and it mostly rained, so we could have used some more exterior covered deck space. The grounds are very well kept, great for kids, and the 'public' access along the river bank didn't bother us at all. It fitted our expectations well.

Family Fun

A lovely big space. Within walking distance of Turangi shops. Quick drive to the lake. Could do with a fan or two upstairs. Excellent to have a portacot, highchair and access with a big family to three bathrooms. Badminton a real hit. A couple of great walks for different levels of Fitness. Second swing bridge a must see and use. Good weather made it even better. Dimp a must for the midges.

Friends reunion

The house is in a lovely location, big garden, native bush, lots of birds, river a few minutes walk away, quiet and so beautiful. The house has a good design, great to have 3 bathrooms!! Kitchen well stocked with appliances, excellent fireplace, once it got going it warmed the house wonderfully!. One thing missing is a hand rail for the outside stairs? Would a great help to have one. Definitely would recommend this house.

We did not have a terrific stay here. We came to the house to find a dead mouse and mouse droppings along multiple walls of the house. The hostess explained that they have to set poison out given the area they are in which is totally fine and she even offered to have the housekeepers come out and dispose of the mouse. If it was just that as an honest issue of bad timing (the mouse died between when the housekeepers last came and our arrival), I would have just moved on without thinking more of it. However, given the scope of the mouse droppings, it was clear the housekeepers or property manager arent very attentive. We also found a fresh black hair upon opening the covers of one of the beds (was it just from the housekeeper as he or she made the bed or was it from the sheets just being reused without cleaning? Who knows). One of the toilets leaked and the water was shut off to it. No napkins, no paper towels, no coffee. I informed the owner as we checked out regarding all of these things but no answer or acknowledgement. Even a brief apology or acknowledgement of these things would have prevented me from placing this review but here we are. On the plus side, nice location, the house was otherwise fine in a definitely more rustic style. There is an air conditioning unit but I would fear it might not be enough during the hot summer but it worked well enough while we were there.

Bel endroit pour un groupe

Maison 5 chambres, très bien équipée. Bel extérieur. Manque un peu d’espace pour y déposer nos propres choses ( garde-robes et armoires ) sinon c’était parfait entre autres pour faire Tongariro.

Winter 2022

White Water Lodge is a very nice place to stay. The property is clean and except for some structural damage done in a flood 30 years ago, the house is well looked after (The damage does not have any negative impact on the house, the kitchen has a angle in floor as well as the main bedroom upstairs, but not negatively impact your stay in any way). The bathrooms were are well supplied with shampoo, conditioner, body soap and a hairdryer. The kitchen was also well stocked with everything you need from cooking to cleaning up with an excellent working microwave, dishwasher, stove, oven, jug and a big fridge and freezer. Plenty more appliances were available, but we never used those. Some doors unfortunately can't be closed and 1 of the bathrooms could not be locked. But just being there with my partner and kids, this wasn't an issue for us. Quiet neighbourhood, with fishing opportunities at the back door. Close to the snow and a 15 minute walk to the centre of Turangi. We struggled to get the fireplace going, but the heatpump, with some help from the electric heaters kept the house nice and warm. Plenty of firewood was supplied for us to use during our stay. Definitely a place to come back to again. Property manager was easy to contact and communication was perfect. A well filled welcome and instructions booklet was provided in the house upon arrival (Which was definitely handy to get the stove working). The public walkway at the back of the property is no issue at all, and mostly used by fishermen. It brings you to the famous Tongariro River Trail in less than 10 minutes.

Great stay but listing needs to be updated

We had a great time during our stay over NYs 2021-2022. Only frustrating thing was the inaccuracies and omissions from the property listing that lead to some unwelcome surprises. Because of these I can't give 5/5. Such as 1) The garage/bikes/second fridge being unavailable, and finding out about this when we arrived because the owner is storing their car and forgot to tell us 2) The property not being nearly as private as the pictures suggest given closeness or neighbors but especially because the path mentioned is a public path and very close to the house so every day 10-20 groups wandered by. 3) The furniture changing since the photos were taken which meant the mezzanine floor is much more cramped than in the photos. Probably not an issue for most but as we were booked to the max capacity was annoying to have to try and scramble to rearrange to find floor space for the air mattress as there was no room upstairs. also 4) the sky didn't work, we tried for a bit to get it working (none of the remotes had batteries???) but then tried to use the google chromecast - which ALSO didn't work. So trying to watch tv/a movie was a complete failure. All in all a good place to stay, but the owners need to update the photos and explain the location a bit more so potential guests have a more accurate idea of what they are booking
