Maria & Sergio # 1

This house and location we found most refreshing. Both the hosts are fantastic in communication, preparing the house and providing a thoughtful welcome package of essentials to get you on your way without stress. I would recommend spending 20 minutes or so with Sergio as his recommendations we found invaluable. From the moment you step inside the house and move through the house you can see the care and thoughtfulness from the hosts. Well equipped and a couple of simple rules made our stay very enjoyable. This is a large piece of property that you share with the host, although you each have separate houses. The hosts are most respectful of your privacy. The scenery, access to the property, swing set, chickens, wild birds and one of the most friendliness, lovable dog named King all made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. This was our first visit to the island and we felt very fortunate to have found hosts which are so caring and thoughtful to ensure you have a completely pleasant stay. Fuel, grocery and restaurants are all very close by. A clean well equipped place to stay is always what's expected, but to have such caring, thoughtful, kind hosts is what made our stay even more better than we expected. The best house we have stayed in! Maria and Sergio are perfect hosts, offering helpful information during check in and very responsive to any questions we had. The property was immaculate and the house exceeded my expectations. Our buggy ride with Sergio allowed us to see sites that we otherwise could not have seen. One of the highlights of the trip!! You won’t regret choosing this property!!

Best of VRBO!

Maria and Sérgio are wonderful, welcoming hosts and the house is well situated and comfortable. Hang a plastic bag on the gate with an order slip and find freah bread waiting before first light. The island is small and readily explored from Candelaria with car or bicycle. In a car you could be at any point of Sao Miguel in 90 minutes and most places in less than an hour. The sunset at Ferraria and snorkeling among colorful fish at Mosteiros are nearby.

Very spacious location

Highest rating without any doubt. The property is located ideally at the end of Candelaria. Very quiet with a phantastic view on the Atlantic Ocean. The highlight is, indeed, the buggy tour. Sergio is a very experienced driver and you will the chance to drive on "roads" where ordinary cars cannot. If you read comments on the dog - do not b e afraid. He is very, very friendly and will consider you a true friend. Thanks Maria and Sergio

Dream Start Azores Trip

I can unreservedly recommend the Criptoméria house. The landlords Maria and Sérgio are extremely friendly, helpful and always available for a nice chat. The garden surrounding the house is a dream, as is the view towards the sea and the mountains. The location of the house is very good, i.e. from the airport in approx. 25 min, shopping possibility for small things approx. 5 min, all sights on the island quickly reachable, due to the good connection. We would come back at any time.

A wonderful stay on Sao Miguel Island

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Casa Criptomeria in Candelaria, and it did not disappoint! Maria and Sergio's home was beautiful, and exactly as pictured on their listing. Our family of 4 had everything we needed during our stay, with our hosts even providing some initial groceries upon our arrival, which was very helpful! Beautiful views, well maintained grounds and a very comfortable, cozy home... made even more special by our gracious hosts (and their friendly dog King)! Close enough to local towns for booked tours but far enough away where we felt like we had our own private oasis. If you have the opportunity, take Sergio up on a ride in his custom-made buggy! Would definitely recommend Casa Criptomeria to anyone considering a stay on Sao Miguel Island. And if you're renting a car, we recommend Benauto Rent-a-car, referred to us by Maria. Micaela and the family there were AMAZING and provided us incredible service and very reasonable prices. Thank you again Sergio and Maria, you helped make our stay in the Azores unforgettable!

More than met our expectations

Casa Criptomeria is a lovely place to stay - light, airy and surrounded by lovely gardens. The photographs on the site do not do it full justice. The house is well equipped and lovingly maintained. As a family of 5 we felt that we had plenty of space. What really added to our whole stay were the owners - Sergio and Maria. They made every effort to make sure that we had a good experience. On several occasions they went way beyond the call of duty and were always friendly, helpful and generous. Maria would bake an Azorean delicacy for us, Sergio always ready to advise or lend a hand. We spotted 3 serious pastimes of Sergio's - gardening : he loved to explain his garden and fresh fruit and veg was always available to us. - croquet : Sergio has built his own croquet court in which some hotly contested matches take place with the local men. He was always ready to teach us and play with us. - motor vehicles : he is an engineer. He has built his own buggy, and took us on a great ride round the nearby crater. We really enjoyed the company of Sergio and Maria and their family, and thank them for their hospitality. If you stay in the months November to April, Sergio gives you full use of the family car without any charge. This makes the whole package extremely good value. He also meets you at the airport and drops you back, which makes arrival easy and stress free. The island is lovely. If you like to walk, explore, photograph in a beautiful environment, then this is the place for you. The island is one giant garden. We found plenty of mountain and crater walks. The craters of Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo are stunning, and well worth a good long walk around. Nordeste is well worth exploring, with a stunning waterfall along the way. There are plenty of volcanic pools to bathe in - even heated waterfalls and a sea inlet that has waves come in cold and go out warm (nearby Ponta da Ferraria). Whale watching costs about 50 euros a person - we saw plenty of dolphin and a fin whale. We had 3 days scuba diving - we can recommend Azores Sub in Vila Franca, who were very attentive and professional. Sao Miguel is very green and fertile. In order to be so green sometimes it has to rain! We had quite mixed weather, but when the bad came it usually passed through pretty quickly. It is an ideal place for those who enjoy natural beauty and the outdoor lifestyle. We highly recommend Casa Criptomeria and will definitely return ourselves.

Excellent accueil

Nous avons passé un court séjour chez Maria et Sergio mais qui s'est très très bien passé ! Nous avons été accueillis chaleureusement dans ce petit coin de paradis entouré d'un grand jardin donnant vue sur l'océan, où nous nous sommes sentis "comme à la maison" ! Merci beaucoup !

Heerlijke rustige accomodatie

Geweldige (grote) tuin, in huis alles aanwezig, erg netjes en zeer gastvrije eigenaars. Uitgebreide informatie over Sao Miguel en zijn bezienswaardigheden gekregen van Sergio, hij kan altijd nog gids worden 😊

Sehr schönes Haus, super nette Vermieter

Wir waren 1 Woche dort. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und das Haus hat alles was es braucht. Einziges Manko war der Hund der Besitzer, der doch sehr aufdringlich war- allerdings haben sie diesen sofort weggesperrt als wir dies moniert haben. Die Zimmer oben sind sehr hellhörig und der Boden knarrt- hat uns aber nicht gestört Das Pool ist eher ein großes Planschbecken, aber zum Abkühlen ausreichend. Der Garten ist einfach ein Traum

Nice lication and a very good holiday house

We enjoyed our stay in the house.everything was as decripted. It is spacious enough for 6 people. Its on a lovely location with a hugh garden. The owners are very friendly and helpfull.

Idyllic retreat - Beautiful grounds & gardens!

There were four of us at this wonderful place, all older women. We found it an idyllic retreat - very comfortable, clean, quiet, and beautifully surrounded by lush gardens and grounds. It is located in Candelaria, which is about a 30 minute drive from the main city (& airport) and nearby several "must see" sights. We rented a car from a smaller and local (Candelaria) business, which I highly recommend (Michaela, Ben Auto Rentacar - tel +351-919-158-531). She met us at the airport coming and going. You will need a car when staying here. It's a lovely part of the island and a good base for sightseeing. It's important to rent early as I'm told the rentals sell out. Also, we needed an automatic, which are hard to come by. So the earlier this is locked in the better. The house itself was fine, with clothes washer included which was very helpful. There are 3 bedrooms, 1 downstairs (Queen) and 2 up (2 twin beds in each). The only bathroom is on the 1st floor. The living room had enough comfortable seating for all of us, and there is a long table on the porch which was lovely to take our meals. Also a long table inside. Really all the comforts of home. The owners, Sergio and Maria, are very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy. We really didn't interact too much with them as the house was so well set up. After our stay here we were another week at another place in the city. While that place was excellent, w really preferred the quiet and remoteness of Candelaria.

Wunderbare Familienunterkunft

Sergio hat uns trotz später Ankunft sehr nett begrüßt. Ein riesiger Obstkorb, frische Eier, Brot und Wein standen für uns bereit. Sergio gab uns ausgührliche Tipps für die Erkundung der Insel. Es gab such einen Brötchenservice. Das Grundstück ist riesig, sehr gepflegt und ideal für Kinder zum Toben. Der große Haushund ist sehr zutraulich, allerdings vergißt er oft, dass er kein Welpe mehr ist. Vor lauter Freude und Spieltrieb wirft er ein Kind schon mal um. Das sollte man bei kleineren Kindern berücksichtigen. Alles in allem war es eine wunderschöne Woche in der Casa Criptomeria.

Heerlijk woning in een mooie tuin!

We hebben een heerlijke week gehad mede door de fijne woning waar alles aanwezig was en die in een prachtige tuin lag. Eigenaar Sergio is zeer gastvrij en de buggytour die we samen met hem maakten was geweldig. Voor mensen die rust zoeken is dit zeker een aanrader.

Fabulous Find!

This VRBO was delightful from start to finish. Sergio & Maria were charming & helpful hosts. By the time we left, we felt like we were leaving friends. If Sergio offers to take you on a ride in his buggy, take it!! It was one of the highlights of our trip! We thought we were going out for a quick ride, but we were out for a few hours having seen the most beautiful sights of the island. The home is clean and well-supplied. The view is spectacular. The hosts have 2 dogs, chickens, & ducks. The neighbors have dogs and a cow. You feel like you are on a farm, which we found to be charming. Sleeping is a challenge, however, as the neighbor’s cow and the many dogs in the neighborhood do not follow the lights out policy. Bring earplugs! It’s worth it! We would absolutely stay here again! Bravo Sergio & Maria!

Schönes, gepflegtes Haus mit tollem Garten, schönem Blick und sehr fürsorglichen Gastgebern

Wir hatte eine sehr schöne Zeit in der Casa Criptomeria. Das Haus ist ruhig in einem wunderschönen Garten gelegen, den man mitbenutzen kann. Alles ist sehr gepflegt. Sergio und Maria sind sehr lieb und kümmern sich ganz toll. So haben sie extra eine Babyschaukel für unseren Sohn aufgehängt, worüber er sich sehr gefreut hat. Das ist auch gut gelegen, um viele der schönen Orte Sao Miguel besuchen zu können. Alles auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert

Paradise in Candelaria

The property is fantastic. Maria & Sergio are too kind. My sons fell in love with the dogs. Allergy folks, know that the dogs do not enter the VRBO, so there's no worries about that. Sergio and Maria were beyond helpful and even baked a birthday cake for my son, who was celebrating his 9th birthday. The house is immaculate, and the gardens are a dream. Book this property and enjoy!

Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen - der Vermieter ist sehr freundlich und immer hilfsbereit

Wir hatten 2 tolle Wochen auf Sao Miguel verbracht. Das Grundstück von Sergio und Maria ist riesig. Abseits von der Straße hat man vollkommene Ruhe. Sergio und Maria haben uns immer wieder geholfen und Tipps gegeben. Ein Highlight war der Ausflug mit Sergio's selbst gebautem Buggy :-) Wir können das Haus nur empfehlen.

Grüner, wunderschöner November

Im Casa Criptomeria verbrachten wir 2 wunderbare Wochen. Bei der Ankunft wurden wir von Sergio begrüßt. Er gab uns gleich sehr viele tolle Tipp zu vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Ein prima Startpaket inkl. Wein und tollem Grüntee von Gorreana stand für uns bereit. Sehr praktisch wenn man erst Abends ankommt. Vielen Dank dafür. Wir haben die Insel in 2 Wochen, (bei nur 2 Regentagen) gut erkundet. Mit dem Mietwagen kein Problem.(Firma Benauto in Candelaria, die uns bei Ankunft mit dem Mietwagen am Flugplatz abgeholt und zum Fe-Haus gefahren haben. Bei Rückgabe des Autos hat uns eine Mitarbeiterin um 6 Uhr morgens abgeholt und zum Flughafen gebracht!) Empfehlung von Sergio und Maria) Wenn man , wie wir im Urlaub nicht kochen will, ist das Restaurantangebot in der nahen Umgebung begrenzt. Wir haben daher tagsüber von Ponta Delgada bis Ribeira Grande sehr gute Restaurants entdeckt. Nach unseren Touren haben wir die Ruhe, die tolle Aussicht ins Grüne und auf den Atlantik sowohl von der überdachten, windgeschützten Terrasse, als auch vom "Picknick-Pavillon", der sich auf dem weitläufigen Grundstück befindet, sehr genossen. Absolut erwähnenswert und ein Highlight war die Tour mit Sergio in seinem selbstumgebautem, offroadtauglichem VW-Buggy. Atemberaubende Landschaften um Lagoa Verde, Lagoa Azul, Lagoa Santiago, Grota do Inferno usw. Jetzt wissen wir auch, dass die japanischen Sicheltannen Namensgeber des Ferienhauses sind. Vor der Buchung des Hauses habe ich kurz wegen des Hundes gezögert....der grosse Hund "Lord" ist mittlerweile 13 Jahre alt und lammfromm! Ein kleiner Labrador namens "King", bei unserem Aufenthalt gerade gut 2 Monate alt, ist dazugekommen. Wir waren gleich verliebt in beide Hunde. Sergio und Maria sind super nette Vermieter, die wir sehr gerne weiterempfehlen. Die beiden haben in der gleichen Strasse in Candelaria noch das Casa do Canto und die Villa Maria zur Vermietung. Sao Miguel im November: Üppiges Grün bei 19 bis 23 Grad! Dank "Casa Criptomeria", Sergio und Maria (und Lord und King...) ein toller Urlaub

Worth it!

Amazing place. Both the house and the garden have everything you could wish for and more. Lovely view of the atlantic from the pool or the swings to look at sundown. The hosts are very friendly and extremely helpful, we even went over the map of the island together and they gave us a ton of recommendations. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Sao Miguel! Amazing island, amazing house and amazing hosts.

Siamo stati accolti molto caldamente dai proprietari, il posto è davvero incredibile, per riposarsi e immergersi nella natura. Tutto perfetto.

Extraordinaire

Nous avons passé un séjour extraordinaire avec nos 2 enfants de 9 et 11 ans. Maison très fonctionnelle, spatieuse, lumineuse et très bien équipée. Vue sur l'océan en permanence, jardin immense et très fleuri, très bien entretenu, piscine parfaite pour nos enfants. Maria et Sergio sont des hôtes attentionés et prévenants, d'une gentillesse et d'une disponibilité à toute épreuve. Ils nous ont conseillé tout au long de notre sejour sur des sujets pratiques de la vie quotidienne sur l'ile et pour nous aider à découvrir les trésors de Sao Miguel. Un grand merci pour leur accueil.
