Thank you for your comments. Our housekeeping standards are extremely high and we deep clean after every guest and fumigate regularly. We do advise all our guests not to leave food out on the counters for extended periods of time and also to wipe down the counters at nights as the 'sugar ants', tiny ants are very skilled at finding your unwashed dinner dishes. For our guests that do not wish to clean up after themselves, we also offer daily housekeeping for a small additional charge. We are in the heart of the Costa Rican rainforest - a truly magical setting that was inhabited by many creatures before we arrived - small measures, like keeping a clean kitchen, are all that are required for everyone to enjoy their stay and coexist in a natural setting.

This situation is extremely unfortunate and we certainly sympathize with the distress this caused. Up to this point in time, we had never had any sort of theft and we were equally shocked. We provided legal assistance, and support to these guests filing reports and tracking their items. We gave them a full refund on their stay - including all the nights before this occurred. Had they wished to continue to stay in the house we would have provided additional on site security for the balance of their stay but they had moved out before we could offer this option. We would like to assure all our future guests that we have gone, one by one, to all the doors and ensure that they all lock. In fact, if you arrive at the house and find that a door does not lock, we commit to giving you a full refund on your stay. No questions asked. We have taken this situation very seriously and wish to maintain our level of 5 star service and experience. Since this time, we have also taken the additional security measure of keeping a staff member on property in the guest casita during the day. The incident with this guest appears, from community camera footage, to have been 2 individuals who walked into the community with backpacks and binoculars and waited for the guests to leave the house. Now, to offer all our future guests comfort that this will not happen again, we are paying for a staff member to be visible on the property whenever you leave for activities, excursions to serve as an added deterrent to theft. We wish Bryn and her group well. While it is true this can happen anywhere in the world and can happen with doors open or doors locked, we are truly sorry it happened here and now have these additional measures in place for the safety and security of our guests.

We always appreciate our guests' feedback and I'm sorry you don't like the new colour scheme - our other guests have enjoyed the more vibrant, tropical colours and had found the taupe quite urban and dull. In response to all your comments, all we can say is that the house is on 25 acres of prime Costa Rican rainforest and yes, there are scorpions and many other forms of wildlife in the jungle! Scorpions are not often seen around the house because our exceptional gardener Cristofer keeps all the gardens and lawns manicured but it can happen. Given the many times the property manager had to respond to your calls only to show up and have you say in fact everything was fine, I would encourage you to book your future family vacations at resort properties so can have that more sterile resort environment that seems to better suit your family's tastes. As far as lighting and fans and fridges go, the lights around the pool are working nicely as is the fan over the outdoor dining table -- perhaps you simply couldn't find the switch? None of our previous guests have mentioned that the outdoor fridge by the pool was not working and I will have that checked immediately. We have already checked all the doors and locks and they are all working as they should, as is the front door lock, the private gate into the house and the gate at the entrance to the community. Occasionally when there is a tropical storm and the power is out for a period of time, the community entrance gate can be held in the 'open' position so that resident vehicles can go in and out and not be locked inside the community until power is restored. Perhaps that was the cause. Again, thank you for staying with us John.
