A private peaceful getaway in the middle of a 5 acre historic orchard from 1895.

Our location is private and peaceful, yet close to all the amenities of the main village of Eastsound. The property lies at the base of Buck Mtn., and is one of the original homesteads on the island. Our orchard is one of the few surviving from 1895 - most of the apple and pear trees (30+) are still robust producers! The original foundation is just behind the garden. The cottage was finished in 2016 by Orcas locals, using local wood. The heat is radiant in-floor- we appreciate the quiet and convenience of it . We also took care to provide appliances: full size refrigerator; full size oven w/ stovetop; full size washer dryer; dishwasher. For babies: high chair and Graco Pack n Play. Bathroom amenities include: towels, TP, hair dryer, liquid shampoo and conditioner. The beds (queen downstairs and king upstairs) are very comfy. Extra sheets, throws and blankets are stored in the downstairs bedroom closet. There is a picnic table for you to enjoy eating in the orchard, a porch to hang out and watch the deer graze; outdoor rockers and lounging chairs, and a bbq. There are games and badminton games in the outdoor storage bin next to the cottage: bocce ball, corn hole, etc. Wireless internet is also available, as well as a TV for streaming. We have lived on Orcas for over 30 years (my husband, Jim, even longer) and raised our two kids here. We look forward to hosting you at The Cottage in the Orchard, happy to share our knowledge of our community! We have an active vr permit with San Juan County.

We loved the seclusion of the property and such a lovely setting with the apple and pear orchard around. The cabin is set up with great amenities that all were in working order.

Quiet and charming cabin near downtown

Baby-friendly oasis

LOVED our stay at the orchard. The cabin is totally dialed-in for toddlers, which made our stay so much easier. Cathy and Jim are gems.

Cozy place in Eastsound

Enjoyed our time in this house in Eastsound! Peaceful place to relax in after our family reunion. Loved sitting out on the porch in the morning and evening. Beds were comfortable. Overall, a great place to stay!

Very pleasant stay

The cabin has everything we need. The bed is very comfortable. Very quiet and secluded and yet is not far from Moran State Park, north beach and the town. The only thing I would make suggestion is perhaps to change out the towels as they seem to be old.

Great for our Family

We really enjoyed our stay on Orcas Island! Perfect spot for us and our two kids (4-years and 10-months). It had everything we needed for the kids (high chair, travel crib, toys, etc.) and they loved seeing the deer and owl that came to visit in the evenings!

Close to town but secluded

Everything was as described. Small but comfortable space. The grounds were pleasant- porch for watching birds and deer. Very close to Eastsound.

Quiet refuge on beautiful island

Peaceful location in old apple orchard, off main road, near East Sound and Moran State Park. Comfortable, and washer/dryer helps! Some updates needed. We appreciated communication from hosts, and enjoyed our stay!

Beautifully Quiet Retreat

I stayed here with my mom and we both loved it! The property is quiet and set back from the road for privacy. The owners live nearby, and are very responsive via text. Eastsound is a quick drive away, maybe a 30 minute walk for the adventurous. We loved having this little spot to retreat to at the end of the day. Thank you!

Reconnecting

Absolutely loved every bit of this property and hospitality of the owners. Nothing like being in middle of beautifully groomed grounds, wildlife, games under the tree on table..then making meals inside. I only pray I can enjoy this place again!

Orcas Island Getaway

Our stay at Jim & Cathy’s place was wonderful. The cabin is located in one of the most tranquil parts of the island. It is a very relaxing place that will surround you with nothing but nature and beautiful scenery. The cabin is spacious and the kitchen is well-equipped, great for cooking. Jim & Cathy made us feel welcome and were kind enough to offer us apples and pears from their orchard. We Highly recommend and would book this place again.

Loved our experience!

It was an ideal place for our Family. We came with two toddlers one in a crib and one still co sleeps. We really loved the experience of viewing the deer so close. When we got there there was no grill but we just communicated that that was how we were planning to feed ourselves the next two day, and one was brought out for us.

The perfect Eastsound hideaway

We had the most delightful and relaxing stay at Cathy and Jim’s cottage. Their property is secluded, quiet, and a perfect spot for solitude. It’s minutes away from the heart of Eastsound. We traveled there with our toddler and were pleasantly surprised at all the kid friendly additions - pack n play, kids’ books, toys, etc. Cathy and Jim were so lovely and generous. They checked in on us and provided some kitchen items when we realized we didn’t have what we needed. We felt so welcomed and taken care of while there. This was our first trip to Orcas and whenever we come back, we will definitely be staying here!

Relaxing stay with wildlife

Great stay for our first time on Orcas Island. Place is immaculate. Not too much decor on every surface like some places, so we could easily put our books on the night stands, binoculars on table, keys and wallet on kitchen counter, etc. Wildlife was the best part. Our 2 year old loved the caterpillars (we consider this wildlife! Ha ha) Really loved the addition of travel coffee mugs, thought that was unique. Beds are so amazing, we all slept like babies...even our actual infant baby! Jim and Cathy are so sweet. They felt like family that we hadn't seen in a while!

A Perfect Stay in an apple orchard

We loved our stay at Jim and Cathy's place. It was perfect. 1. You are close to town. You can walk there. 2. The house and space feel quiet and private. It is like an oasis on the property. 3. The house itself its lovely. Its very peaceful. The upstairs bed is really nice and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need. 4. Jim and Cathy are great hosts. 5. I would recommend this spot to anyone.

Great quiet place

This place is only a few minutes from the town, but a world away. It is in an old apple orchard. The unit is a separate building from the owners, but you won’t see their house u less you’re loooking out of the back windows. There’s a great porch with 4 chairs to relax and watch the many deer that visit the yard. The interior seems to be new, with a farmers sink and induction stove. The bathroom is very modern too. We had 4 adults staying, and the only downside is that it was a little tight for the 4 of us in the common areas. Still, it was worth dealing with that for the peace and quiet of this lovely cabin. I hope to return to Orcas Island and to stay in this great rental again.

Great location, fantastic place

We had an amazing time staying at the Orchard cottage. The place was immaculate when we arrived. It has everything you need and Cathy and Jim are fantastic hosts. It’s the perfect distance from Eastsound and Moran State park. Will stay here again for sure!

Wonderful Cabin

The cabin was great. Small but very comfortable and immaculately maintained. The property was lovely with the apple trees all around that the deer came to browse each evening. Wonderful porch and picnic table for dining al fresco, or just taking in the evening sun or having a morning beverage.

perfect summer stay for our family

Our family of four stayed at this cabin for a few nights in July. The kids could safely roam the yard/orchard or play with toys inside. There was a lot of baby gear available like a portable crib and highchair. The kitchen has everything needed to cook in and even had butter, salt, sugar, and some other basics. The hosts were very friendly.

Jim and I met here on Orcas in 1991. I was a "Hollywood Refugee" and he hailed ten years prior from So Cal, as well. Before we knew it, we were raising 2 children together in what we consider to be one of the best places in the world to do so. After downsizing from a home on the mountain side above us, we built the main log home (behind the cottage) and moved in 2006. We had an opportunity to start building the cottage and completed it in 2016. We’re both retired now, and our cottage revenue helps us stay on this beautiful island!

The cottage sits in the middle of a 5 acre plus apple and pear orchard that was planted in 1895, when Orcas was the hub of fruit production for the region! Our trees still bear fruit- enough for us to host a cider press every year! This is a quiet, private and overall peaceful setting that is conveniently located near the main town of Eastsound and its amenities.
