Casa Colomba is a rural Italian farmhouse comfortably accommodating up to six adults, or four adults with up to four children. It has a private swimming pool and professionally landscaped garden, and is situated in the heart of Umbria in central Italy. It is an unpretentious and much loved, family holiday home, comfortably furnished in rustic style and situated in a peaceful location with spectacular views of the rolling hills and vineyards of the Umbrian countryside.
Our much-loved family holiday home offers the experience of staying in an authentic Italian peaceful getaway in the heart of the Umbrian countryside.
Located on the edge of a quiet village, it is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to escape from a busy life. One of the delights of our location in Umbria is that, within half-an-hour, you can drive to popular local places which include Assisi, Spello, Bevanga, Montefalco, and Lake Trasimeno.
We deliberately do not have WiFi (although there is better mobile reception than most places in the UK!) or a TV, and after much deliberation we have decided to keep it this way so that our guests can genuinely relax while on holiday and have a "tech-detox"!
The layout of the property comprises the ground floor which is accessible from the garden at ground level and has a double bedroom, a twin room with two single beds, and a separate bathroom with walk-in shower, sink, wc and washing machine, accessible from both rooms. The ground floor is connected to the upstairs area (which is the main part of the house) by an external staircase. Please see photos. The upstairs comprises a master bedroom with a double-bed, a twin room with two single beds, and a shared bathroom with shower, sink and wc. This open plan living area comprises a kitchen, dining and sitting area. There are black-out shutters for a good night's sleep.
We accommodate up to six adults, or four adults with up to four children.
The house is well-stocked with board games and books and our holidays are spent lounging by the swimming pool watching the bees feed on the bank of lavender, listening to the sound of the crickets, and wind in the trees. At the end of August the fig-tree is in full-fruit and you can prepare lunches of prosciutto, fig, and balsamic vinegar, washed down with wine from the local cantinas. Umbria is a well-known wine region and there are three local wineries within easy reach. You can indulge in lengthy lunches on the wisteria-shaded terrace, riposini on sunloungers by the pool (Italian siesta!), BBQs, dinner inside or outside depending on the weather, and the children can play games of "UNO" and "Who's in the Bag" for hours!
There are several restaurants nearby which offer an alternative should you want to venture out! We have had several artists staying at Casa Colomba in the past: writers, painters and poets have found it a perfect place for inspiration.
The swimming pool (9m x 5m) is open seasonally (usually from May to October) and professionally maintained on a weekly basis during this period. It has a deep end and a shallow end with easy step access. Please note that the pool area is unfenced and children should be supervised at all times. The pool area is close to the house and visible from it and yet is secluded and has glorious views over the local countryside with Perugia visible in the far distance.
The entire perimeter of the property is fenced and gated and there is private parking for two vehicles on-site.
