Welcome to your perfect log cabin Smokey Mountain vacation! High Frontier Lodge sits on a very secluded and peaceful 4 acres of pristine mountain wilderness, bordered by a gushing trout creek in the Squally Valley that features cascading waterfalls and endless offroad and hiking trails.
Whether youâre on a bikerâs getaway, hosting a retreat, or just looking to get away from it all with the family (or four families!), the High Frontier Lodge has plenty of room and all the amenities you could want, with sleeping for 10 â yet at a price youâd expect for a cabin half itâs size.
From Robbinsville NC, youâll have a picturesque drive into the wilderness around Lake Santeetlah on the National Scenic Cherahola Skyway. Although The Lodge is VERY private, getting there is easy. After a one mile section of well maintained, level gravel road and a short ascent up the private year-round accessible PAVED drive, youâll find The Lodge and ample parking nestled into the trees on a flat spacious knoll. (Thereâs even covered parking for 1-2 motorcycles!) A custom, hand-built real log home, The Lodge was built with love and meant to blend seamlessly into the forest surroundings. Outside is the oversized 437 square foot viewing deck with unspoiled scenic forest and mountain views and enough grilling, dining, and relaxing space for the whole group. Itâs so big, it was actually used for a country wedding!
Inside the cabin, youâre met with a soaring 22 foot high cathedral beamed ceiling in the open concept great room. Our kitchen comes overstocked with everything youâll need for home cooked meals and then some, and the cook is always part of the group with the giant wood slab dining room table and living room all together in one large space. Four comfy leather couches and armchairs surround the native stack stone fireplace, huge flat-screen TV, and large bay window.
With hand built real log furniture throughout, wood crafted doors and knotty pine boards, plus central heat and AC, Wi-Fi internet, and DISH satellite TV - High Frontier Lodge is a perfect balance of modern and rustic log home. We furnish all the clean, sanitized, high-end linens so you walk into a cabin ready to enjoy. Youâll sleep like hibernating mountain bear on the Tempur-PedicÂź bedding, with a king master and a second queen bedroom on the first floor, along with laundry and a full bathroom. Then upstairs, you have the third and fourth queen bedrooms, TWO full bathrooms, and a loft area with a couch, futon, and game console for the kids.
Enjoy your evenings gazing at the stars in the 7 person hot tub, situated in the back of The Lodge in a private woodland setting, listening to the sound of Squally Creek below. Then, set out during the day right from the front door to experience the waterfalls and endless offroad riding and hiking trails through thousands of acres of wild mountain forest. Or try trout fishing and boating on Lake Santeetlah, and visit other nearby attractions like Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, , Fontana Lake, Nantahala National Forest, Tail of the Dragon, and the Cherohola Skyway. Nature abounds! A little further down the road, youâll love the downtown restaurants, museums, shops, and breweries of charming Bryson City, Silva, or Franklin. Kids will enjoy the nearby Cheoah Point man-made swimming beach in the summer, the extensive supply of games and toys, exploring the propertyâs ridges and valleys, and of course roasting marshmallows over the fire pit year round. Thereâs even two ski resorts within a 2 hour drive!
So bring your motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, mountain bikes, or even just your dog, a good book, and a bottle of wine â and let us treat your family and friends to a priceless mountain memory.

You definitely get the full on experience of NC mountains. It was so nice to disconnect from our busy lives. I am so thankful we chose this place. Thank you Steve and Maria, God bless you and your family!"

Booking guest must have a positive rating or host recommendation from previous VRBO rentals. PLEASE DO NOT SEND US A BOOKING REQUEST IF YOUR ACCOUNT DOES NOT HAVE THIS. If you're not sure, please use the "Contact Host" link instead of a booking request and we'll be happy to let you know.
Booking guest must be age 25+, and must be present at the home for the duration of the stay. No one under the age of 18 is permitted on the property without their parent or legal guardian.
Booking guests will receive our Rental Agreement via email, once signed your reservation is confirmed.
Prior to booking, please send us a brief introductory message including number of adults and children, and number and size of dogs.
PLEASE NOTE:
Small groups pay less! If you don't need to use four bedrooms, you don't have to pay for them. The guest fee is $5 per night, per guest over six. Please enter your actual guest count at booking.
Pet Policy: We love our canine friends but with them comes extra responsibility for leaving our cabin in the same excellent condition that you found it. One or two dogs are allowed. Dogs must be older than 6 months and fully house trained â not using âpee padsâ. Dogs are not allowed onto the beds or any furniture, guests who disregard this will be responsible for bedding or furniture replacement. There is a large crate in the downstairs bedroom closet, if you'll need two crates you must bring your own. Please have âpoop bagsâ and clean up after them if they poop anywhere other than in the forest.
The WiFi is capable of download speeds up to 25 Mbps which has been adequate for âZoom callsâ. In order to provide WiFi to our guests throughout the calendar month, guests are allowed 1.7 GB/day for the total duration of your stay (5 nights = 8.5GB) which should be plenty for email and light web browsing. If you plan on working from the cabin, you may purchase additional data tokens from Hughesnet.
While the lodge is very accessible year round by any normal 2WD vehicle, if you are arriving on a motorcycle, please ensure you can handle your bike on gravel and paved inclines with turns. If you are bringing a trailer, be aware that you might not have room to turn around without disconnecting it.

Tietoa majoittajasta
Majoittaja: Steve and Maria
Hi, we're Steve and Maria. Our two girls, dog, and cat are the owners of High Frontier Lodge. We love our beautiful log cabin in the woods! We are honored to continue previous owners Brad and Ginger's history of providing a first class experience for our guests. We aren't hiding behind a property management company, we're always available. We look forward to meeting you!
Miksi majoittaja valitsi tÀmÀn majoituspaikan
We've been coming to the Western NC mountains since we were teenagers, and always hoped to be homeowners. We searched for a year, and saw many nice cabins, but none were in a location that gave us the sense of peaceful privacy that we like. We actually stayed in this cabin as renters and loved not only the house itself, but also the West Buffalo area, with its friendly neighbors, beautiful scenery, and proximity to the lake and so many outdoor activities. We think you'll love it too!
MikÀ tekee tÀstÀ majoituspaikasta ainutlaatuisen
We fell in love with the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the building of this wonderful log cabin. And the giant deck! Whether it's enjoying the views lounging on the log furniture, grilling and dining on the wood slab picnic table, or watching the kids play on the surrounding hills, we're always on the deck. We also love the all wood interior, without an inch of drywall! And nothing compares to soaking in the hot tub under the stars after a day of exploring.
