My Dad, Niece, dog, and I stayed at Maggieâs Barn for 2 nights. We booked this Vrbo knowing it was a barn stay, so we expected some quirks. The animal smell (mostly urine) was overwhelming at first, though we adjusted quickly. The beds were clean and fresh, but the space felt more thrown together than in the photos, and the loft pictured with beds was empty. Bugs were common, which makes sense for a barn but might bother some guests. There was no lock on the door, which made one of us uneasy at night, though the rural setting felt safe.The outdoor shower was a fun novelty at first, but hot water ran out quickly, the showerhead was attached with bungee cords, and the awkward shower curtain didnât really block the opening to the hay area. We struggled our first day since there was no welcome book or local info, and we had no cell service and the host out of town so not much communicationâthis would have made a huge difference.On the positive side, the property was easy to find, with clear arrival instructions. The highlight was the beautiful horses in the nearby field, which we loved visiting. On our second day, we met a family member of the host who was incredibly kind and gave us great suggestions, which really helped redeem our stay.Overall, this is a unique barn experience and could be wonderful with some updates and clearer expectations, but for us it felt closer to a 6/10 than the 9/10 average rating.
