Your hosts live above the apartment and are long-time Capitol Hill residents - one is even a licensed D.C. tour guide - and can help you get the most out of your stay.

Fun and convenient!

What a great home in a convenient location! Our family of 4 (kids 12 and 14 years old) stayed here for a week. We loved the neighborhood - convenient to the metro, parks, restaurants, and shops. There are so many thoughtful touches in the house - laundry/cooking/cleaning supplies, toiletries, games, books, maps, etc. It was nice to sightsee during the day and have a laid back evening at home with dinner, TV, and games. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful!

The owners thought of everthing. It was well stocked with anything you might need, even coffee for the Keurig and Metro Cards to use. The beds were comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The location was perfect - just 5 blocks from the Eastern Market Metro and with grocery stores and good restaurants nearby. The neighborhood always felt safe, even at night. Friendly families were walking children and pets and the houses were decorated for Halloween. We hired Robert (who is by profession, a guide) to take us, to Mt. Vernon for a most interesting and enjoyable morning. All-in-all, I would give this rental a 10+

Wonderful Place

We enjoyed our stay for three nights to visit the monuments and museums. The apartment was very nice and had everything we needed and more. The metro was a nice one-half mile walk and restaurants were in walking distance. We would stay here again. Thanks to the host. Very nice and accommodating.

Excellent property, everything you need is there in the apartment. Metro station near by and easy to travel to all tourist attractions. Local supermarket, tavern (serves food) and Bulldog bagels 5 mins walk away for breakfast.

Great place, excellent location

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was well stocked and is in a great location. Metro station was close by as are restaurants and groceries. The kitchen is well stocked for most any meal we cooked. Very friendly hosts that responded quick to messages.

Lovely Stay

Great location and lovely Vrbo and unit. The accommodations are great there is everything needed in the unit. It is super close to the metro which is great for getting around. More of a residential area so it was quiet and safe. The hosts were communicative when need be. Thank you so much for the great experience!

Great place and location

This place is great, particularly for the location and access to central DC. The neighborhood is walkable and felt safe, even at night. There were plenty of restaurants, though we got most of our meals from the Trader Joe's, which is located in between the Metro Station and the rental. (We didn't rent a car and were able to travel entirely by Metro.) The pull-out bed was great for our kids (8 and almost 12) but may be a bit tight for bigger kids. The owners have done a great job of providing storage and nearly every amenity you could think of.

We loved it!

This apartment was the perfect set-up for the 3 of us. It was comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, had all of the conveniences that we as travelers could want. When we had trouble with the City's parking website, our hosts immediately came to the rescue. We loved the neighborhood and found it to be entirely walkable. In short, we loved it!

Wonderful, roomy stay in residential area

What a wonderful stay! This two bedroom, updated basement has everything you could possibly need! The owner thought of everything! It was so clean and well kept. The owner was incredibly helpful and responsive. Only a 10 minute walk from the metro station. So nice to come “home” to a residential area after busy days of sightseeing in the touristy areas.

DC Vacation

We had a fantastic stay in DC. Robert's place was great, perfect for a family of 4. Easy walk to the Metro and ride shares had no problem getting to us.Robert was a good communicator and had some helpful advice on our time exploring a wonderful city. Looking forward to ouir next trip!

Excellent apartment

A wonderful rental in a great location with a caring and helpful host. The apartment had anything you would want or need on a vacation (except groceries although it did have coffee and condiments etc). Even parking permits and metro cards were provided! In fact this was probably the best equipped apartment we’ve ever rented. It was clear that the comfort and convenience of the guests were important to Robert and it showed. It was a pleasure to stay there and I highly recommend it.

DC Visit

We enjoyed our stay. The rental was very clean and had everything we needed. We were so happy to have the Keurig coffee supplied. Plenty of towels and a comfortable bed. Location was perfect. DC family trip

My daughter, her son, & I spent 5 days in DC. Property was as in the pictures, very clean & very well equipped. It is within easy walking distance of Eastern Market & the Metro, in a residential area. We hired Robert for an private tour of the Embassy Row area & thoroughly enjoyed it. His knowledge of the area & its history was impressive.

They thought of everything

Location: perfect. Amenities: too numerous to mention. Historic interest: 100%. Comfort: absolute. The owners have thought of everything for this space. We were pleasantly surprised to find filtered, chilled water and a lovely coffee when we arrived, such a gift after a long day of travel. Every corner of this sweet home has an interesting little vignette. We enjoyed the well-stocked table games. Add: sheets and pillows were super comfy. Glowing, five-star praise from us.

Wonderful Time in DC

Property is located in a wonderful and safe neighborhood within walking/public transport distance to the major DC landmarks. The apartment is impeccably clean and the amenities were plentiful. The hosts were gracious and communicated well with us. All in all, we had a fabulous family vacation and this location played a major part in the memories we made in DC and we highly recommend this rental.

Antonia and Robert have lived in Capitol Hill since 2004 and have become very much a part of the neighborhood. Robert went from researching the history of their house to becoming a licensed D.C. tour guide - all while being a stay-at-home dad. He is happy to tell you all about the history of the house, the neighborhood, and the city itself. If you are interested he is also available for tours of the city, from introductory tours of the monuments to a deep look at local neighborhoods.

While the house was built in 1913 and was inhabited for most of the first 50 years by the government clerks who defined Capitol Hill in that time, it gained historical importance in the early 1970s, when the Furies, a radical group of Lesbian feminists used the house to write, edit, and publish their newspaper, also called "The Furies." While the collective used the whole house - a number of them lived there, as well - the basement was the focal point of their work, as pictures from the time attest. While little direct evidence of the time remains, memories of the time linger, and were even given the imprimatur of the National Park Service's National Registry of Historic Places in 2016.

Capitol Hill grew as a neighborhood between 1880 and 1920, and retains its residential character. The same amenities that entice people to move here are also key to its draw for visitors: Lots of good restaurants of all types and price ranges, excellent connections to all the main sights of Washington via Metro and bus, small businesses with a wide array of unique products for sale. Staying in the Furies House will give you the opportunity to explore a neighborhood that has been rated one of the best in D.C. by Frommer's, Timeout, and Lonely Planet.

There are amenities close by, a cute cafe 1-1/2 blocks away, a convenience market 1/2 a block, as well as full-service grocery stores including Trader Joe's within easy walking distance.

If you visit with young children, there are playgrounds all across Capitol Hill, including one in Lincoln Park two blocks from the apartment, as well as a brand new one near Eastern Market Metro. See pictures for an idea of what they look like.
