The Craftsman cottage is on a private 15 acre wetland providing excellent views of a wide range of birds and other wildlife. French doors open to a deck and huge yard that meets the wetland and walking path around the ponds. Less than 2 miles from the house, enjoy kayaking and walking the Luckiamute Landing Trails at the confluence of the Luckiamute, Santiam and Willamette rivers. Relaxed open design, vaulted ceilings, queen beds, wifi, smart tv with Netflix, full kitchen and coffee bar.

This was a fantastic get away. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything we could need. I love the location and we identified so many different birds in the area. And the wild turkeys visited everyday. The host did a great job with every little detail. It was quiet and peaceful and a true retreat.

This was an amazing place. The attention to detail was amazing. The kitchen was so well appointed with condiments in the frig and staples in the pantry. There was a wonderful selection of keurig pods avaiable with syrups to add to your cup. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom had lush towels and plenty of them! The claw foot bathtub was wonderful. The lighting throughout the house was well appointed. The grounds were amazing - lots of places to explore. Will be back again.

We absolutely loved our stay! The host was so welcoming and friendly. It was our first time renting an electric car so we didn’t know about different plugs. When her plug didn’t work, she went the extra mile and found a friend willing to let us use their charger. All of the little touches, like fresh eggs from her chickens & bubble bath, made the stay even more special. Plus the views from the deck were incredible! She also had a binder full of information about the region! We would stay here when we visit again.

Relaxing place to call home base.

Instead of staying in Salem, we found this awesome rental just out of town. It is among rolling hills of farmland. House was clean and impressively updated.

It is a sanctuary, inside and out!!

This place is perfect! The owners have astounding attention to details. Cozy beds with nice linens awaited us after a day exploring the area! Amazing coffee bar greeted us each morning (and sometimes in the afternoon)! Enjoyed sitting on the back deck to watch the many birds living on the sanctuary. They even provided binoculars and books to help identify the many different birds around. Kitchen was set up with everything we needed to make our dinners at night. Stayed here a few years ago when we dropped our daughter off at OSU, stay again for a visit and this trip was to attend her graduation. Hoping something in the future will bring us back this way again. BEST place we have ever stayed!!

Great quiet and scenic location. The home was much more than expected from pictures/descriptions. Lots of extra touches made our stay wonderful! Great beds, claw foot soaking tub made our time luxurious. Kitchen was well equipped and stocked which was appreciated. Would stay again if in area😊

Enchanted Cottage

Aesthetically we stepped back into a simpler, nostalgic time while enjoying all the benefits of today’s convenience updates. The hosts thought of everything to make our stay, comfy -in a luxurious way Bottles of fragrant bubble bath to enhance a nice soak in the claw foot tub (with a view of their pond ) is just one example. Two fun personalized touches were the farm fresh eggs we found in the frig and birthday napkins stocked in the lovely coffee bar area to celebrate my husbands special day. Clean, Classy, Cozy Country Retreat could summarize what we enjoyed this week at Anderson House in Indrpendence….definitely a 5 Star stay

A night away

I came to stay here with my daughter and her grampy. It is located in the perfect spot for kids to really get some good nature time. And she loved the entire house especially the tub.the home is very well stocked for your stay. The host was very responsive and accommodated us for an early check-in. We would absolutely stay here again.

Great place to stay when graduating

Me and my family are from California and stayed here so that I could graduate from OSU with my masters. Really enjoyed the peacefulness of the house and loved that it was a bird sanctuary. especially since I just graduated with a fisheries and wildlife degree! Perfect coincidence

So relaxing!

This property is stunning, if you like outdoors, country and just peace of mind, then you'll love this place. We are already coming up with a time to go back! Everything you need was provided plus more! I could just go on about how much I loved this place. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay out of the city. We will be back!

4th Stay

Kathryn and Dee have made us feel so special each time we've come. We even had a coyote welcome us our first night on this trip. To having the lights on, the beautiful flowers and card, to the wonderful throws to snuggle under while watching the wildlfe and weather with the fireplace going. Hubby has enjoyed the coffee bar so much. We've already booked our 5th stay for next summer. Sincerly, D & M.

Lovely peaceful cottage

Our stay was exactly what we needed - a peaceful getaway not far from shopping and activities. It was a wonderful experience in a beautiful home. Kitchen had more than most - Keurig, slow cooker, Instant Pot, even an immersion blender, and was thoughtfully stocked with all coffee supplies including sugar, creamer, and coffee syrups, oatmeal, and plenty of spices and other cooking staples. Bathroom had all necessities, including plenty of towels, toilet paper, hair dryer and first aid supplies. The huge soaking tub was a much appreciated bonus. It snowed while we were there but we stayed warm inside due to individual thermostats in both bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen, as well as a gas fireplace in the living room. Lots of windows allowed the light to shine through. I loved it and appreciated the thoughtful touches that made us feel welcome.

Peaceful Cabin

I was in town to visit my brother and his family, so I didn’t spend much time onsite to maximize all the amenities; however, this was the best stocked places I have ever stayed. The host had coffee, tea, hot chocolate and all the extras to make the best hot beverage. She also had a cabinet with non-perishables available in case needed. There were eggs from their chickens available in the fridge. They had games, birdwatching guides, and lots of local recommendations for your visit. Very cozy place with lots of touches to make your time here relaxing. Outdoor seating was available. Would recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful spot to unwind.

Immaculate

This is a roomy, perfectly appointed house that feels independent from the nearby house. Appliances, controls, Internet were all flawless. We have a toddler so I needed to elevate some things he could reach for. We did need to protect him from getting his head stick between mattress and window sill which was easy to do with the extra pillows. It is situated in orchards and overlooks a several-acre wetland with plenty of birds. There was a turkey gang when we arrived but I never spotted those again.

Great Get-Away From Hustle-Bustle Busyness

Everything was just as pictured and presented! Relaxing, comfortable space. Plenty of equipment to fix gourmet meals, with many staple ingredients available right in the cupboards. Easy space in which to work on meal prep and connect with family lounging on comfy sofa, watching movies. Nice gas fireplace that warmed up the whole place right away. Claw foot tub: perfect for soaking in Epson salt while reading my favorite book and sipping wine. Bright and welcoming home away from home. Love the small-town shops that are only about 10 minutes away. The furnishings and extras make this home a wonderful place to relax and revitalize. Plan to make repeat stays during different seasons.

This lovely home had everything from coffee to Q-Tips! There was nothing that we needed that they didn’t have! I loved the layout of the home and the peaceful surroundings! We knew it was somewhat remote so we took food with us to cook. While we didn’t see many birds due to the rain, we did see some wild turkeys in the blackberry field, We visited some nearby wineries set among gorgeous rolling hills. We hope to return again!

We are a mother-daughter team who love traveling, camping, hiking, gardening and bird watching. Dee is a long-time residence of the area since relocating for love from Vancouver, Canada in the early 1950’s. Kathryn and her husband moved into the Anderson dairy farm almost 30-years ago. Over the years, Kathryn and her husband have been reclaiming the land back into the original wetlands from a soggy hay field. They planted trees and dug the ponds then waited while nature did the rest. Soon after the ponds were done, birds, frogs, fish, beaver, otter and other wildlife moved in. We love to watch the wide variety of activity on the 15 acres and look forward to sharing the experience with you.

We are centrally located 10-30 minutes from Salem, Albany, Corvallis, Independence and Monmouth and minutes from several hiking and kayaking/boating activities in a secluded area where you can relax and unwind from your daily activity.

The view from the deck and back yard provide closeup bird and wildlife viewing opportunities not found most places. In the spring, you can watch proud Canada Geese parents out with their Goslings feeding in the lawn and swimming in the pond. The evening brings out hundreds of Swallow's feeding over the pond. At night you will hear Coyotes howling and see owls silently hunting for their dinner.
