Enjoy a classic summer experience at Happy Harbour, a two-bedroom, lakefront cottage on the shores of Portage Lake in Onekama. You'll have a grassy lawn in the back leading down to 40 feet of private lake frontage.

Whether you're hoping to spend your days swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing in the summer sun, you'll be in just the place to do it. There's a sunny deck overlooking the lake where you can bring your breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as an outdoor firepit where you can roast marshmallows nightly. Other amenities include a fully appointed kitchen, an indoor dining table for six, a living area with a TV, and a private washer/dryer. Please note that this property does not have A/C.

Things to know
Onekama Township recently created a Short Term Rental Ordinance; please respect this Ordinance so this home can continue to help your family make vacation memories.
This property is managed by Vacasa Michigan LLC.

Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.



Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

Happy Harbour satisfied our needs

We stayed here for my parents' joint 80th birthday party and spent most of our time at their house. The house was clean and sufficient for our needs.

Property is reasonable. Good amount of space, location was nice. Sheets were dirty, floors dirty, doors and windows need work and kitchen supplies need updating (pans, toaster etc)

Literally the cleanest house I've ever rented. A bit of a wet smell in the main living area and kitchen but that is expected with an older house on the water. Wish there was air conditioning, but there were so many windows we were able to get a cross breeze off the water and there were extra fans in the closet as well as ceiling fans in every room. The listing said there would be wifi, and the Vacasa texts even sent a wifi name and password, but there was no wifi with that password and not even a modem in the house. Very comfy beds, cute quiet street even with the bible camp 2 doors down doing major construction with heavy machinery (at no fault of this rental), and beautiful yard with direct access to the lake. It was so nice to be able to put our kayaks right in the lake without having to drive them to a public access site. Such a cute little town with a great grocery store and cafe within a 5 minute drive. I would definitely recommend staying here!

False advertising extremely disappointed

Rooms were good sizes. Location to everything in town was good. Not the cleanest espesially the outdoor furniture. The inside was a little outdated. My main purpose of staying here was for the doc on the lake. I wanted it to be as convenient as possible for my ill father to fish right off the doc in the back yard. Well they never put the doc back in the water after the cold season. This was Father's day weekend and the doc was still set aside in the back yard. I message both VRBO and VACASA the minute we arrived. It took them 14 hours to respond with a generic email with basically a sorry for the inconvenience written back to me. The neighbors made themselves known the instant we arrived and were a little too close for comfort. Felt like we had no privacy. We left 24 hours early if that tells you anything.

Summer 2022 Family vacation

The location was perfect for our needs; on the lake, close to family and "town". The home itself was perfect for our family of 4. Plenty of room for us and then some. The kitchen supplies (utensils, cookware, etc.) were not optimal; hard to cook nightly meals without the proper cookware, but we made do. There were little to no instructions from the current property management company (found the former company's "Welcome" folder) on where anything is located, in the home or around the surrounding area(s), nothing informing us of trash day and where to find the bags necessary for putting the trash out (thank goodness for the neighbors). All in all we had a great time!

Not the serenity that I was expecting.

The house interior was reasonably clean, if you don’t count the fridge and the floors. The exterior was covered in cobwebs. The patio table looked like it wasn’t cleaned this year. There’s no privacy as we would hear when our next door neighbor sneezed in his house. Also there’s a boat yard two lots away so at night there are bright lights that greatly reduce the enjoyment of the stars in the sky and in the day time there’s machines whirring quite a bit. When I was chatting with the help desk about a grill and fans on the property I was told that neither was there “because it’s not listed in the included amenities “. So we brought both of our own. I was frustrated to find a nice charcoal grill in the yard and fans throughout the house. My point is that if all the help desk does is read the listing then they’re not much help. I’d rate the entire experience about 3.5 out of 5.

Had to break into house

Upon arrival if it hadn’t been for my husband being able to pick a lock we would still not be in the house! The lock box code we were give did not work! I attempted many times to call, email and text the property owner and they still have not responded to my requests. They are sending me automated robo texts and emails to rate my stay! The inside of the house was clean but the outside of the house was not! We had a great time when away from the property!
