Makea tuuli on lÀnsi-intialaistyylinen koti, joka sijaitsee hieman eristÀytyneen hurrikaanireiÀn ylÀpuolella. Huvila on hyvin yksityinen, rauhallinen ja yksinÀinen, ollessa Nat. Park, mutta se on vain puolen kilometrin pÀÀssÀ Coral BaystÀ, joka urheilee elÀvÀÀ musiikkia eniten yötÀ, ostosmahdollisuuksia ja hienoa tai epÀvirallista ruokailua. Vain lyhyen kÀvelymatkan pÀÀssÀ on pikkukiviranta, jolla on hyvÀ snorklausta, ja 4 kajakkia on kÀytettÀvissÀ tutkimaan 5 lahtia, jotka sisÀltÀvÀt hurrikaanireiÀn. Suunnittelin ja rakensin paikan perinteisemmÀssÀ LÀnsi-Intian tyylissÀ, 3 erillistÀ rakennusta, joissa suuret kannet yhdistÀvÀt. PÀÀrakennuksessa on keittiö, olohuone ja ruokasali. PÀÀrakennuksen lÀnsipuolella on makuuhuone ja kylpyhuone, joka on kiinnitetty yksityisen kannen kautta. PÀÀrakennuksen itÀpuolella on kolmas rakennus, jossa on 2 makuuhuonetta, 2 kylpyhuonetta suurella kannella w / ruokapöydÀn ja lepotuoleiden vÀlissÀ. Kaikista huoneista on nÀkymÀt, tunnet kelluvan aivan meren yli, ja tÀmÀ asettelu tekee niistÀ hyvin yksityisiÀ. Paljon rakkautta ja huolenpitoa tuli Sweet Windin suunnitteluun. Se on oma yksityinen taidegalleria, jossa on parkettilattiat, Purple Heart -kaapit, hienot astiat, antiikkihuonekalut, paikalliset aarteet ja vÀhÀn huumoria. TÀysin yksityisyyttÀ varten on kaksi erillistÀ kannet. Yksi suihkusta on ulkopuolella, rakennettu kauniilla kallioilla. Makuuhuoneet ovat erillisissÀ rakennuksissa tai palkoissa, mikÀ lisÀÀ kauneutta ja yksityisyyttÀ. Huvilan takana on ihana grotto, jolla on hÀmmÀstyttÀvÀ kivi-tukiseinÀ, joka on 9 'korkea ja 100' pitkÀ ja kulkee koko takaosaa, jossa on BBQ, orkideoita, kukkia ja yrttejÀ sekÀ ulkosuihku. Huvilassa on portit molemmissa sisÀÀnkÀynnissÀ, jotka pitÀvÀt villit aasit ja lapset poissa. HerÀÀt hÀmmÀstyttÀvÀÀn auringonnousuun hurrikaanireiÀn ylÀpuolella. TÀmÀ on Karibian suojatuin satama, ja katsomme ulos Koralliriuttajen kansallismonumentista, joten yön yli kiinnitys ei ole sallittua, ellei myrskyvaroitusta ole. A week in paradise

Sweet wind is the perfect location for us. Close to great snorkeling and Coral Bay but very quiet. Nice view and easy driveway. Kitchen is well equipped and we cooked dinner for 6 most nights. Nina is a good host, very responsive and flexible with check in time. We’ll be nack

The comforts of home in paradise

Nina’s property was nothing short of amazing! It had all the comforts of home, and she had everything we could think of and/or need. And the VIEW.. WOW. It was so beautiful it felt like a dream- just like the pictures. We loved how each room had its own entrance and the outdoor showers were the coolest addition. She was so easy to get a hold of with any issues (not that we had any). And her beach and restaurants recommendations were so helpful. Her sweet pups were the cutest welcoming committee. It was also super close (20 min or less) to all the best beaches on the island.This is not the place to stay at if you’re wanting luxury/are particular about noises. but it IS perfect if you want a comfortable home base for enjoying the beaches and the views. If we return to the island someday we will 100% be booking again.

Nature’s roost

Perfect for a large group. Every room had a view of the water. Felt like home with wonderful artistic touches and art. Always a sweet breeze. Well stocked kitchen. Nina was always happy to answer our questions. A perfect island retreat!

Great Location, Awesome View for those wanting to get away!

Our couples were able to enjoy the isolation, views and the breezes of Hurricane Hole, while having access to the North Beaches with a short drive. Kayaking and snorkeling are a must with relaxation on the decks at any time of the day.

Sweet Winds Villa - A Perfect St. John Getaway

Our stay at Sweet Winds Villa was absolutely wonderful! The location near the National Park was perfect for exploring the island’s natural beauty, with hiking trails and pristine beaches just a short drive away. The villa's layout provided plenty of space for everyone to relax and feel comfortable, making it an ideal spot for our group.We loved the small-town atmosphere of Coral Bay—everything we needed was right there, from charming local eateries to a grocery store that delivered groceries to the villa before our arrival. One of the highlights of our stay was watching the sunrise every morning from the villa’s deck; the views were breathtaking and truly unforgettable.The included amenities, such as kayaks and beach chairs, added so much to our experience. The snorkeling was fantastic, and we spent hours exploring the crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. Seeing the wild donkeys and goats that St. John is known for was such a fun and unique experience, adding to the island's charm.We also found Nina, the property owner, and her lovely dogs to be such a delight—they made us feel right at home. That said, fair warning: the driveway is not for the faint of heart! But once you make it up, the views and tranquility are absolutely worth it.Sweet Winds Villa provided the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic retreat in St. John.

Adventure & million views

We were a family of 8 ( 4 kids & 4 adults) and we stayed for 9 days !!Our stay in St John was one of the most memorable trips we have taken, and we have done a fare amount of traveling all over the world What you need to know about staying on the East end of St John is that this is a rural destination for people that like ADVENTURE travel , if you are looking for a resort like the Westin this isn’t going to be your cup of tea.Sweet Winds is an amazing Caribbean style house set on a hillside above Hurricane Bay!! The views are worth the stay aloneThere are 3 bedrooms on the upper level all with bathrooms, amazing views , comfortable beds and AC window units you can use but we didn’t need. The other 2 bedrooms are on the lower level and we didn’t utilize those . If you are traveling with small children or any children they may not be comfortable staying on the lower level as it is a distance to make your way to the upper level.The kitchen worked well, has very basic cooking utensils and the grill was a lovely feature. We cooked very basic meals as we spent most of our time at the beach!Nina is very helpful and accommodating, and lives next store in a small house . If you need anything at all it is great to have her help !I can’t say enough good things about St John and our amazing 9 days , we loved every moment and we will take that trip again in the future

Wonderful stay at Sweet Winds

My family had a wonderful stay at Sweet Winds. Amazing location just past Coral Bay with stunning views of Hirricane Hole out past East End and to the BVIs. Stunning sunrises from your room and the patios. Nina, your host, is incredibly helpful and very engaged. Any texts received immediate and helpful responses. If you love dogs, you'll love Toby, who keeps a great watch over the property and the guests. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back!

Beyond our expectations


Myself and my three sons (over 40 ) and their significant others spent 6 days at Sweet Winds. We all agreed that we wouldn’t have changed one thing about our vacation. Sweet Winds provided a wonderful place for us to all enjoy each others company as well relax and enjoy nature at it’s best.The beaches and coral reefs that provided magnificent snorkeling opportunities were a daily adventure. There were many nearby restaurants and markets. We mostly enjoyed cooking fresh fish every night from a local market. Nina was a great host and readily available . We all look forward to coming back .

Spectacular

My family and I spent a week at SweetWinds and were delighted with the magnificent views, the peacefulness of the east side of St. John, proximity to excellent dining options (especially Rhumline and Skinny Legs) and beaches (especially Hansen Bay which is a must-do). The refreshing breeze up on the hill and the incredible stars were extra touches that contributed to the extraordinary natural beauty of the home.

Everything you need for a comfortable stay

Absolutely beautiful view to wake up to every morning! The location is great - close to restaurants and shops in Coral Bay and easy to get on centerline road to access north shore beaches. We only had one car but there is plenty of space in the driveway for a 2nd and possibly a 3rd car. Not every room has AC but that wasn't a problem for us - the constant breeze kept it cool at night. If anything is missing or not working properly the host is extremely responsive and is able to resolve everything very quickly! Her art is also all over the property and is lovely =)

Beautiful Views

The views are beautiful and it is very relaxing. the house was clean and had everything we needed. Very laid back atmosphere. The grounds themselves could use a little maintenance behind the house and entering the pool area, yet that is the island life and acceptable as island living. Nina was great and available when needed. Thank you Nina for allowing us to love your home! It was easy to get to and close to everything we needed! Beautiful beaches, views, and the landscapers ( Donkeys & Goats ) made the experience a lasting memory and blast. Would do it again in a heart beat!

Island Christmas Vacation with Family, 12/22

I imagined trying this adventure with my husband, (3 children in their 20’s), & myself for over 10 years. The pandemic, among other things, kept us from booking it until now. This property is every bit as lovely as the photos show it to be. It was clean, well-appointed, & the views are gorgeous. Any questions or assistance (e.g, switching out tank for the grill) were addressed within minutes, which was very impressive. They also provided great advice on beaches, snorkeling, & hiking options. We’re already dreaming of a return. We highly recommend this rental!

Perfect Paradise!!

This vacation home is a true beauty! If you are looking to get away and relax in peace and quiet, this it IT!! My family and I (6 people) spend the Christmas holiday here and loved every minute! The home is located 2 minutes from Coral Bay and 10 minutes to all the beautiful beaches. There are many great restaurants near by and the views from the home are wonderful. Nina is a great host and very friendly. She is there to offer guidance whenever needed. We loved that the home was nesled in a quiet community and at night all you could hear were the sweat winds! Thanks Nina for a great experience! We will be sure to spread the word!!

Truly a special place

Our family of 4 adults and 2 children absolutely loved our stay in Coral Bay at Sweet Winds villa. I really won't be able to put into words how special this place is. The house is charming and spacious (comfortable beds, a bathroom and shower in each room, always a breeze, never hot!), the views are spectacular, the pool is such a great place to relax and cool off, and host, Nina, goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is just right. You are 15 minutes to some amazing beaches. We loved Hansen, Maho, Cinnamon Bay. And for a truly remote experience Lameshur. Coral Bay is a unique place. Off the beaten path, but with everything you need....a couple grocery stores and a few restaurants. You'll love it here! Thank you, Nina, for a wonderful stay.

Perfecty wonderful

Sweet Wind Villa was a delightful place for us to call home during our St John vacation. The view is unbeatable, it's close to everything in Coral Bay, and the separate bedrooms were perfect for me & my teenagers. The character of the property and the attention to detail are amazing; you have to see it to believe it. The construction and upkeep is obviously a labor of love. And Nina is the perfect host: she doesn't bother at all, but is immediately responsive when there is an issue (I didn't know how to use the oven, for instance). And when we arrived much later than expected because of travel delays, SHE FED US. That was an extremely generous gesture, and very much appreciated. If/when we return, we will be staying here again!

A great property with a wonderful view.

Sweet Wind is an older Caribbean style home secluded in Coral Bay. There are no other homes visible from this house....only water and mountains. The house looks out over Hurricane Hole, Princess Bay and Water Bay, and East end. This is the quiet side of the island and if you value beauty and solitude, then this is the house for you. Snorkeling and kayaking is a short hop away. Nina, our host, is nearby if needed, but never intrudes. The kids loved the pool and Nina's gentle dogs. Eight of us easily shared this home. We never felt the need to return to Cruz Bay and found everything we needed in Coral Bay. It's about a 10 - 12 minute drive to North shore beaches. If we return, we'll stay at Sweet Wind.

Beautiful and so peaceful

My husband and I spent 10 days at Sweet Wind. It was the perfect location for us. Quiet side of the island, gorgeous views and constant breezes were an amazing combination. No need for air conditioning which was a real plus for me. The stonework and outside shower were great. Nina was a wonderful host, making sure that we were happy and well taken care of. The location was so close to the park which gave us easy access to beautiful hikes and our favorite beaches. The kitchen was great with everything needed to cook in or use the grill outside. The local restaurants/bars are great. Skinny Legs, Donkey Diner, Island Blues all became our favorites. I would agree, that a 4 wheel drive is a must. To get to that gorgeous view, one must go "up" :) We left wanting to go back. ML & Wayne

Beautiful Home & Views!! But...

The home is beautiful with stunning views!! There is also plenty of space for larger groups, the kitchen is fully stocked to prepare all meals, and a pool to keep you cool in the tropical heat. However, there are some issues that are not fully described in the listing that should be noted: 1) No central A/C, only window units in 3 of the 5 bedrooms. There are fans, but no trade wind air flow in the non-A/C bedrooms and they get pretty stuffy so if you run hot in your sleep, be aware. 2) The 2 lower bedrooms are farther than you think - down a path past the house, down stairs, and around the pool, which could be tricky for young kids or even adults at night. Ideally there would be stairs installed from upper deck to the lower deck to make these rooms more accessible. 3) Power isn't always stable. There can be rolling blackouts on island power (we didn't experience this, but were aware of it), or the solar batteries can run out (this happened to us in the middle of the night!) We had to manually switch power sources, and there were some issues with this due to time and poor cell service, but really there needs to be an auto-switch installed to go back and forth between island and solar power. Visitors shouldn't have to wake up in the middle of the night to switch power sources. 4) Owner is friendly, but communication wasn't always great. I received messages meant for others, and there was major check-in confusion. FYI

Those sunrise views...

Right from the start Nina was straight forward about what to expect from checking-in, arrival and your stay. If you're looking to stay away from the crowds and interact with them when you choose, this is the perfect place. If you're looking for marble floors and high-end luxury keep looking. In no way does that comment takeaway from what Nina offers, that is just not what her place is. The sunrises all but make up for any lack of marble floors. We have stayed in numerous places around the world and Nina's is a place we would stay again. Just be aware of your location and know where you are heading. It takes a bit longer to get there but the best places are always further from the cruise ports (in our opinion). I should note were no cruises running during our stay that made it that much better.

Not as advertised

We ran into several issues. The first being that the pool was unusable upon arrival and us having to clean it so it could be accessible. The owner also had multiple dogs that drank from the pool and were in and out of it. The owner also did use the pool with friends and all of her dogs. The stove as well as grill were unusable upon us arriving, making cooking almost impossible until we had their maintenance fix the stove. There were also additional fees to use the AC units that were never discussed.

I feel so lucky to live here in beautiful Hurricane Hole. I am a painter and a musician. I use oils, pastels and watercolours and mostly paint boats and sea monsters .I enjoy playing the mandolin, banjo and slide guitar. I commercially fished for salmon, halibut and black cod, and had a 36' troller for most of my life out of Sitka Alaska. I used to come here for the winter to get out of Alaska, and build places for myself and family. I've lived in several parts around Coral Bay, and I think this is the best place to live on St John.

Sweet Wind is just above Hurricane Hole in the National Park and overlooks Coral Reef National Monument. Boats can not overnight moor in the Coral Reef Nat. Monument and there are almost no other houses in view. Park trailheads are a short walk away,and It's very quiet and peaceful here, the view is amazing, and still close to town. The snorkeling and kayaking available here at Sweet Wind in Hurricane Hole make this a special place for outdoor enthusiasts.

The house is a West Indian style with hip roofs, three pods with private decks between, with greenheart floors, cyprus wainscoting and antique Caribbean furniture. The full kitchen has beautiful antique caribbean style purple heart cabinets with stone countertops. Open the back kitchen door and there is a lovely grotto, with a gas barbeque and a potted garden full of herbs herbs and spices. The villa affords great views and privacy. The views from most every room feel like you are floating over the ocean, all you see is water and Nat. park land. It is breathtaking and amazingly private. You hear no noise from the bands in Coral Bay.
