Bed Bugs
The good: Location, communication with owners, layout of the house.
The bad: Shortly after I got into bed the first night we arrived, I noticed bed bugs crawling on me. It was horrifying. We didn't bring these bugs with us. There was evidence they had been in the rental for a while. We contacted the owners and they came over right away and immediately took the master bed out of the house after seeing the bugs for themselves. We also found another bed bug in the other bedroom. We had to spend money on another hotel room for that night and since it was spring break and too late to find another place and had to clean all of our things, we drove home the next morning. We spent hours cleaning. Welts showed up on me soon after getting home. We were reimbursed for our rental cost by the owners, but we spent money on gas to get there and back, a hotel room so we could have a place to sleep that night, and paid for a dog sitter just to drive to the VRBO and have to go home the next day and deal with a situation we should have never had to deal with. We're out that money. I don't believe the owners knew there were bed bugs and they were kind to us, but as business owners, it was their responsibility to make sure that this place was safe and in good condition and it was not.
