Around 2pm I messaged the host to ask if it would be ok to check in earlier. I didn't get a response. No biggie, I headed there after 4. The drive through the neighborhood had me uneasy. The neighborhood is being built up, so there were some nice homes as well as shacks, but I knew exactly what time it was once I got in the vicinity. We arrive at what should have been the property, but the address was different and I could not find the the address listed. I called the host. No answer. I had to contact Vrbo. They finally reached the host and connected us on the phone. Turns out I was at the wrong house. (That could have gone very wrong). The host was apologetic and told me where I should be. However, she informed me that she let the cleaning lady go early and the apt wasn't ready because she mixed up my dates. It's almost 5pm at this point. She asked me for an additional 1.5hrs to clean. I'm in a new city, I've been out all day waiting, and I'm in a rough area. I could not imagine what I would have done if my friend didn't push their plans to make sure I was safe. After 6pm I saw her walking out and I still hadn't received check-in instructions, so I walked up to her car to ask if I could go in. She offered me a gift card for the inconvenience and said she would send it to me via email. Overall, my stay went well. The place is decently located, no bugs, and the hood activities didn't seem to encroach. Never received that gift card though.
