Wonderful Stay

Gorgeous waterfront Property with a great fishing/crabbing pier, in ground pool and tennis court(also great for pickle bal). Grand porches both back and front, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone. Very secluded yet only a few minutes to a nice little town with all you need. Property manager was extremely helpful the couple of times I had questions. Five stars all around.

Perfect Get-A-Way!!!

Gorgeous historic property in one of our favorite counties! So much for the kids to enjoy - never bored !! We spent most of our time in the pool, eating on the back porch or on the boat. Thanks for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

Fantastic Family Getaway!

It was all as advertised and more. Great house just like a mini resort. We kayaked in the bay. Two of our grandkids caught their first fish. Quick dips in the pool. Plenty of things to do in the area. Awesome family memories! Thank you!

Annual golf getaway

We have been taking a fall golf trip for the 18 years at many different locations. We have used VRBO about 8 times. This was the best house/property we have stayed at. It is a little bit of a drive to the Williamsburg course, but we did find a couple closer courses (Piankatank River and Golden Eagle Resort). Great view of a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. Huge property that is very secluded. The house is large and has plenty of baths and TVs. The landlord was very accessible and helpful. LOVE the place!!!

Wonderful Family Vacation!

We had a wonderful family vacation at this beautiful property! The house was perfect and gave us all space to spread out. We spent our time swimming, crabbing, canoeing and enjoying the beautiful view from the amazing porch. The house was clean and the kitchen was perfect for cooking large family dinners. We loved the peaceful environment! Also liked that things were labeled otherwise it could had been over whelming with how big the place is. Would book again in a heart beat!! Also loved the May Faire in Mathew. The kids enjoyed all the attractions they had.

This home is worth renting just for the view and the expansive, private, peaceful location. The porch overlooking East River was our favorite spot.

Amazing place

My family and I stayed here for our annual family vacation. We can honestly say everyone from the oldest to youngest had a blast. The house is very spacious for the 12 of us. The view of the water was spectacular from the back porch. And having the in-ground pool and pool house was great on the hot days. We will definitely want to stay here again!

Great house

The house was spacious and had beautiful grounds, in front of a river with a pier. We enjoyed the fire pit every night. Be careful driving the dirt road at night, we almost hit deer twice, go slow.

SPACIOUS PLACE, BEAUTIFUL VIEW. NICE GROUNDS

The view was awesome and just so relaxing hanging out on the deck enjoying it. House was nice and spacious and laid out perfect for our families. We would love to rent again and the only thing holding us back is the fact that people came on the property late night or early morning. Plus someone drove up in four wheel vehicle and filled two of our three trash cans. I am assuming that both incidents were the owners but really not cool by any means. It was kind of creepy to say the least!

family vacation

Our family met for a few days together, coming from north, west and south of Virginia. Grandview was a wonderful spot -- lovely accommodations and amenities! We all decompressed for a day -- ahhh... The pool, tennis courts, corn hole game, table tennis, and crabbing off the pier at night! We are all adults, but we felt like kids again! Our younger group ventured out for Oktoberfest. We all enjoyed the back porch -- again, ahhh... Thank you for such a great vacation.

This place is great and under sold in the description. The property is large with lots of space for kids to run around. The house is also large with lots of space in case you can't get everyone outside because of weather. The data access leaves something to be desired but that's not really under their control.

Great customer service, views and space to spread out.

We stayed for a few days prior to a quiet intimate wedding reception. Jeanie (manager) and Kathy (owner) we’re quick to respond to questions and requests for the Wedding Venue. It was a winter wedding so a fire pit was a must and enjoyed by all. The view and space inside was fabulous. Several caterers set up in huge eat in kitchen and formal DR. Area and even space for a cider and hot chocolate bar. Good times for sure. My only slight “extra” comment would be a few more towels would be nice. Memories were made and the Bride said, “Thank you for making my dream wedding come true ❤️”.

What A Treat!!!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Grandview Manor for our nephew’s wedding weekend. Wow, this place is awesome! The grounds are very well kept and the spacious house was able to comfortably handle our large family. The two master suites on the first floor are great. We enjoyed playing tennis, using the pool, and relaxing in this unique home. The kitchen is well stocked for a crowd. We had the most relaxing vacation because of the preparation that the owner and caretaker provided. One of our favorite things to do was to sit on the back porch and enjoy the magnificent view of the East River! We highly recommend this fabulous rental home. It simply does not get any better than this!

Person who leased the property

This was one of our most relaxing vacations ever. We thoroughly enjoyed the grounds, pool & tennis courts and wonderful porches. We thought all the space inside was great, but the staircase was a bit of a challenge for the two year olds, but by next time they will have it down. Just as a personal message to the owner, who may not be aware, but the linens were not kept in good condition. I won't go into it, unless you want to hear directly from me, because in general we were more than delighted with our stay. We hope to be able to use this lovely house again sometime when we can get our 'scattered across the country' family together again. Thank you for the opportunity to let us enjoy a much needed vacation at your beautiful home. The Kanes, Summer 2017

Beautiful House - Beware of some cautions

Beautiful home. Plenty of space. Lots of amenities. Well maintained and clean. Beautiful grounds and gorgeous view. Needs TV’s in the upstairs bedrooms. In the downstairs bedroom (off the kitchen) a shade was broken and the room felt there was no privacy Master bedroom quite eclectic and huge, full length mirrors are everywhere in the extremely large bathroom. MINOR BEWARE - is the overhead vent on stove is a headbanger for anyone over 6 foot tall. MAJOR BEWARE - is the steps. The treads going down are on left side, but when you get to the last 3-4 steps they are extremely narrow on that side (inches wide) as they curve, and looking down you cannot tell where a step ends and next one starts.

Property needs a lot of work!!

Property is rather older and run-down, needs an update in the kitchen and the furniture. Dock was not available for use when there, was told we could use all of dock to fish except for the last 10 to 15 feet, turned out we could only use the first 10 to 15 feet. Standing water in the garage prevented us from using the ping-pong table because of the stench. Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom sprayed water over the entire bathroom when we tried to use it. Couldn't watch the Sunday football game because TV reception kept going out. Just a lot of little things that need addressed. Problem with ants in the kitchen.. The Back Porch was the nicest part of the home.

This place is a Paradise...

We've stayed in many different places we've found on VRBO, heck we've OWNED a place we listed on VRBO, but this one was really special. The grounds themselves are what people say they are, they are like a park, or a Botanic Garden! I didn't know what Crepe Myrtles were before I got there, but I do now, and they are stunning! The HUGE pines are awesome, the entire grounds are incredible. The house itself is a step back into old Virginia, with books in the library a hundred years old! The dock was our "hang-out" spot, we had blue crab almost every night, the only time we didn't was when we didn't care to! The oysters, OMG, the oysters are RIGHT THERE in the mud, by the thousands!!! We ate them until we popped, and they were wonderful. The pool area is perfect... But I have to say one of the features of the place the owner doesn't highlight is her Caretaker, who lives around the corner! I had a mishap with an oyster (4 stitches, actually!) and her Caretaker was there in less than 3 minutes with a complete "go bag" with everything needed to clean and treat the wound before I got to the Hospital to get stitched up. I'd add her as a major feature to this place, what price can you put on THAT when you're in a remote area?! Do NOT miss the White Dog Bistro in Matthews when you go! WONDERFUL mid-1800's building and the food was sensational. Olivia's in Gloucester was very nice too!

Grandview Manor

Khalil Gibran writes: "Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair." At Grandview Manor our family of nine, ranging in age from 11 to 92, delighted in our surroundings. We explored both on land and in the East River, all literally outside every door through which you step. Grandview Manor is home to deer, ducks, heron, eagles, ospreys, blue birds and countless other creatures. On land we encountered deer, including a fawn who made an appearance at least once a day. From the near perfect dock, we fished numerous Atlantic croakers, striped sea bass, spotted sea trout, southern king fish and more. You'll see several varieties of crabs, mussels and oysters. We rented two kayaks from Mobjack Outfitters, and it was well worth it! We spent hours on the first floor's well-appointed porch measuring the hours by watching the tide come in and out. Plenty of seating inside and out more than accommodated our party of 9. With easy access to the small towns of Mathews and Gloucester, we ate, worshipped, shopped and visited with welcoming locals. Thinking about taking your bike? Do. Mathews County is a great place to ride. Our host, Cathy was welcoming, responsive and ready and willing to make our visit a good one. She succeeded! While we have certainly rented better stocked and maintained properties, we would recommend Grandview Manor at which you will be glad to feel the earth on your feet and the wind in your hair. You won't be disappointed at Grandview for a relaxing get-away.

2025 family vacation

We couldn’t ask for anything more. From the drive in to the property and then seeing the mansion we were blown away. It had everything we could ever need and then the back porch and the view. Amazing!!! We had such a great time hanging out in the large kitchen for meals and playing games. Poolside and tennis was a blast. The dock for fishing and crabbing along with kayaking in our kayaks that we brought. But nothing beat just relaxing on the back porch taking in the view. I wish that I was still sitting on the porch!!!! Not to mention close to Williamsburg and other attractions.
