Chertsey is a small municipality located in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. It is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Here's a general overview of Chertsey:
Natural Beauty: Chertsey is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, including forests, lakes, and rivers. The area is known for its lush greenery and picturesque scenery, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Outdoor Activities: The region offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. With several lakes nearby, including Lake Beaulac, it's a great place for water sports and relaxation by the water.
Winter Sports: In the winter, Chertsey becomes a hub for winter sports like snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The nearby Montcalm ski resort offers skiing and snowboarding opportunities.
Small-Town Charm: Chertsey has a small-town atmosphere, and residents often enjoy a close-knit community feel. The town typically has local shops, services, and community events that contribute to its charm.
Proximity to Montreal: One of Chertsey's advantages is its proximity to Montreal, which is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes away by car. This makes it a convenient weekend getaway or a place to live for those who work in the city but prefer a quieter lifestyle.
French Language: French is the predominant language spoken in Chertsey, as in most of Quebec, so being able to communicate in French can be beneficial.
Cottage Country: Chertsey and the surrounding area are popular destinations for those looking to own cottages or vacation homes due to the natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Services and Amenities: While Chertsey may not have the same level of urban amenities as larger cities, you can typically find essentials like grocery stores, restaurants, and healthcare facilities in the town and nearby communities.
GROCERY STORE AND SAQ (ALCOHOL STORE): At the road exit, turn right onto Route 335 until you reach Route 125, then turn left. Provigo is located on your right, about 3 km away.
GAS STATION: For gas, convenience store, or restaurants like fast food, bakery, pharmacy, follow the same route.
VILLAGE: In the village of Chertsey (same direction), you'll find a butcher shop, and a Desjardins Populaire Desjardins ATM is also available.
HARDWARE STORE: Patrick Morin Hardware store is on the same road as the grocery store.
WATER: The water comes from a well, so reasonable consumption is advisable. Additionally, it is not a sewage system but a septic tank. Please be mindful not to dispose of items like bacon grease down the drain; use a container to avoid saturating the soil.
TOILETS: Advise your guests not to flush items like Q-Tips, sanitary napkins, or tampons down the toilets. If a blockage occurs due to such items, you will be responsible for and have to cover the unblocking costs.
SPA: The spa is set at a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit, but you can adjust it to your preference. Please reset it to 95°F after your last use and remember to replace the cover to retain the heat. Ensure that there is a minimum of 2 "pucks" of chlorine in the dispenser to keep your water clear and free of bacteria. Be careful not to spill water into the control box; if this happens, the breaker will trip, and the spa won't work. You will need to open it and use a hairdryer to dry it (a bit complicated).
BBQ: Avoid placing the BBQ too close to the patio railing when cooking. The railing is made of plastic, and the heat from the BBQ can cause it to melt.
DIRECTIONS FROM MONTREAL:
Take Highway A-25 north until Route 125 in St-Esprit (traffic light). Turn left onto Route 125 towards Ste-Julienne-St-Donat until you reach Route 335 (yellow flashing light). Turn left onto Route 335 towards St-Calixte. From this point to the access, it's about 4.6 km. You'll pass a small Beaulac sawmill on your right, indicating you're on the right track. Take a left onto Rue Beaulac, which becomes Des Cygnes.
IF THE DESCENT IS SNOWY: To descend to the chalet parking, make sure you have all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. Standard cars should not attempt the descent as it will be impossible to climb back up without assistance. There's a parking area at the top designated for this purpose and marked as 400 just before reaching the descent. Never park at address 380; it's the only parking for our neighbor.
