Tervetuloa Flying Squirrel Lodge -hotelliin, kodikkaaseen mökkiin, joka sijaitsee Sherwood Forest Audubonin pyhÀkön metsissÀ. My problem was not have WiFi access for my arrival. We had no internet, no phone service for 1st 3 days. After several messages to owner we finally got the WiFi password on day 3. Why wasn’t WiFi password available in the house upon arrival. I was told to get messages and email from the internet. Well you can’t do that if you don’t have internet service (WiFi psssword).

Quaint, Cozy, Clean Cottage!

The Flying Squirrel is a quaint, cozy, clean cottage! It was perfect for our stay. Check-in was a breeze. The host, Sally, provided all the information we needed and was quick to respond when we had a question. The home is well-equipped with kitchenware and staples to make our stay easy without having to run out for items. The view is beautiful. We enjoyed the community and will return.

Cozy & Cute

We had a very pleasant stay at the Flying Squirrel Lodge. It was cozy and felt like home. The house is right in the middle of waterfall country. We were able to travel any direction from the home and find great views and hikes. The location is a quick drive to downtown Brevard when we wanted to try the local food scene. We thoroughly enjoyed the amenities, location, view, neighborhood, and the entire experience. Thanks!

Lovely Forest Lodge

My extended family held a week-long reunion with most members staying in Sherwood Forest outside of Brevard, NC. The Flying Squirrel Lodge is adjacent to a home my parents lived in for 30 years so it brought back a lot of wonderful memories. Apart from that, however, the Lodge is beautifully and very sturdily built, has a nice deck overlooking Trout Lake, has very functional kitchen, bath, and laundry facilities, was quite clean, and very easy to use in every way. Communications with the owner were prompt and excellent. The living/dining room is spacious, well appointed, and was able to hold 29 of us one night for a family dinner. Sherwood Forest itself has at least five lakes, a swimming pool and recreational facilities, many hiking trails and is beautiful! Our experience was outstanding in every way!

Fishing Trip

This was the second time we stayed at this cottage. The neighborhood is phenomenal and the lake is gorgeous. The walking trails are literally outside the back door. The cottage had everything we needed as our base of operations while we visited for our annual fly fishing trip. Will definitely stay again.

Comfortable House

We enjoyed our stay, except Hurricane Helene happened and knocked power out. Neighbors with generators were very nice and helpful, even inviting us to stay. It was a freakish situation, flashlights plugged into wall worked but weather radio and flashlight in closet had old/no batteries. Neighbor gave us candles and we played scrabble. We were running out of food and managed to drive out after getting advice from someone at firehouse. One caveat: if you have dust/pet allergies, bring covers for furniture, which is upholstered. It’s a lovely setting with many walks and canoeing nearby. We didn’t have cell service even before the stirm. .

Practically Perfect in Every Way

To quote Mary Poppins, Flying Squirrel is practically perfect in every way. We loved our stay and hated to leave. The porch is the best! While it rained much of our stay, we enjoyed sitting on the porch and listening to the rain. Kitchen is had everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. Hiking trails were right outside the door! We've been staying in Sherwood Forest for 20 years, and this is one of our favorite homes! We'll be back :)

Escape to the Woods

My wife and I have stayed at the Flying Squirrel Lodge many times and we always enjoy it. The peaceful wooded setting is a great escape from the city. We also love that we can bring our Dachshund along for the trip. We enjoyed hiking to several of the waterfalls at Dupont State Forest.

Privacy and Seclusion in the Forest

This is the second year we are staying in the Sherwood Forest. Absolute stunning place. The Sherwood Forest is dense forest with a maze of streets winding through it. The house is very private and tucked away under the trees. Beautiful swimming lake within 100 yards of the house. If you want privacy and seclusion this is the place for you.

Mountain Sanctuary

I stayed here with my wife and 5yr old son over Memorial Day weekend and had a great stay! The property is located in a beautiful wooded community, full of trails, singing birds, etc. despite being in a community, the trees isolate you from other homes so you feel like you're truly alone at a cabin in the woods. The cabin is exactly as pictured, and is very nicely stocked with about anything you'd want from spices, Tupperware & Ziploc bags, to towels, sheets and fans. You are only 15mins from downtown Brevard & Dupont Forest, so it's a convenient location. One thing to note, the roads winding through the community are only wide enough for one car leading to the cabin, so go slow and be prepared to move over for on coming traffic. Lastly, the location is a "dark sky" area and the community asks that all exterior lights are off by 10pm. Because of this (and there being no street lights), if you arrive after dark, it could be a challenge finding the driveway 🙂 We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again! 🙂

Fishing/Hiking Trip

My son and I planned a fishing trip in the area and wanted to stay somewhere that was private and scenic. This property was a perfect fit. The neighborhood is very quiet and well maintained. The lake is fantastic. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Will likely stay here again.

Comfortable cabin in peaceful area

The cabin is clean, large and comfortable with well stocked kitchen. AT&T cell service didn't work in the whole area but wifi calling and text worked well at the cabin. The neighborhood is in a beautiful peaceful shady old-growth forest with lakes, creeks and lots of well-maintained trails. The rental process went very smooth and the owner was responsive. It's about 15 minutes to Brevard, 10 minutes to Dupont Forest. The Cedar Mountain Outpost at bottom of the hill if a good spot to hear music, get a drink, grab a snack, pizza or very good soup. This is our second stay and hope to be back soon.

We stayed at the Sherwood Forest cottage for 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage had everything you needed and more. Very quiet and somewhat secluded. We saw deer very close to our cottage and visited Trout lake on the property. . The cottage is about 7 miles from Brevard and no more than 5 mi les to Dupont state park. We enjoyed hiking the trails and seeing some of the waterfalls in the area. We will be back to stay.

Lovely Neighborhood with Hiking and Quick Access

We had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the neighborhood's hiking trails, pool, and lovely views. The house was exactly as described and well stocked with everything you might need. Access to downtown Brevard and state parks was quick and easy. Highly recommend!

I have been coming to the Sherwood Forest since 1965. It started with family vacations every year in rental homes until finally in 1985, my parents purchased Flying Squirrel Lodge. It was designed to be easily accessible which allowed Mom and Dad to enjoy it for many years before turning it over to me in 2011.

Sherwood Forest is home to so many knowledgeable people who work together to create and maintain a community where people live and protect the natural environment. There is so much to see and do yet it is a place of peace and tranquility. It is truly a slice of heaven on earth.

Flying Squirrel sits overlooking Trout Lake, one of 5 lakes in the Sherwood Forest. A trail begins just behind the house and can be followed up or down the mountain, across streams, around lakes and through the forest to connect with 21 miles of marked paths.
