Berni's Ocean View-linna - Home Sweet Homestead

Ants

When we turned down the bed in the evening there was a LOT of body hair in the sheets! Disgusting. We had to strip and wash the bed coverings. Also discovered on the sheets were a few ants. I did not think too much about it at that time. However, the next morning I was greeted w/ several different ant trails streaming across the kitchen counters. I went to the store and bought traps, but they did nothing to curb the infestation. All food (ie chips, ect) had to be kept in the fridge the entire visit. Really a pain. Food prep was not fun having to use counters w/ ants. My daughter who stayed in a different room woke up to a few ants crawling on her. Not pleasant. The home is in an excellent location and has a beautiful view. We enjoyed the outdoor deck and the games that were stocked in the home.

August Stay

First the good...the house has great views of the ocean and is within walking distance to the beach. Please keep in mind that you will need to walk down steep stairs and then on the roadways to get there. Everything looked clean and tidy when we first arrived. Now the bad...There is a sign in the entry way that you should take your shoes off when entering. My toddler walked barefoot on the floors of the house for 20 minutes and her feet were black with dirt. I also found broken glass on the floor, so I'm not sure how much actual deep cleaning is happening at this rental. The kitchen had a bunch of empty containers of spices and the rental does not provide coffee or tea. The noise from the upstairs tenants was so loud that I was worried it would wake up my child who was sleeping in one of the bedrooms. This is a lower unit so I'm guessing the noise is unavoidable because it didn't sound like there was a party happening upstairs, just normal activity. Overall, I was pretty grossed out by the cleanliness of the unit. You could tell that dusting hadn't been thorough, as well as deep cleaning most of the areas in the unit. I would not stay here again.

Location is everything

Family/dog friendly with a great view. Consider taking with you...TP, food wrap and blankets/pillows. No extras were available during our stay. Upstairs occupants can be noisy. We did notify mgmt about a broken heater which was not resolved during our stay. Other than that, our experience was positive. We'd sstay here again.

What a View!

Went for a short weekend stay with spouse and brother/SIL. Had never been to this part of the OR coast before. Gorgeous and loads of beach space nearby. This space has a good layout with opposing bedrooms/bathrooms and lots of central group space. The patio and view are amazing. Appliances work very well, and I can imagine it would be great for kids also. Things to consider: 1) Bring food, drink and snacks! This area has only 2-3 restaurants with varying hours, and a couple are closed on Sunday. Very limited options there and only one store with any groceries which is in Netarts. If you want to be able to relax and not have to drive constantly, bring in your own stuff. 2) You’re relatively close to the beach, but this neighborhood is on the side of a pretty steep hill. If anyone in your party isn’t in decent shape or has bad knees/hips, etc…you may end up needing your vehicle to go back and forth. 3) There are three parking spots out front, but they are relatively shallow. If you’re driving a truck or something longer than a sedan, be prepared to park in the spots downstairs from the house. They are plenty big, but be prepared for a sturdy stair climb if you park down there. Definitely agree with the owner’s suggestion of unloading stuff first, then move your vehicle down to lower parking. 4) Check the grill before you cook. Not saying it doesn’t work…we decided not to chance it since the burner assembly was so rusted. That is nearly always the case.

House was clean and well outfitted. We were a little surprised to have two other units attached but spot felt private and spacious. We would defiantly rent again.

Berni's Ocean View Castle

The view is spectacular, and it is easy to spend time reading and relaxing in the window seat. It was nice to have plenty of room for everybody and a game table in addition to the dining table. This is a very comfortable home designed with families in mind. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Disappointed

First, the view is fabulous. Kitchen well appointed. Positive comments end there. Several pieces of furniture are stained or broken. The steps to unit are covered with deed leaves and dirt and are a safety concern.. Windows need cleaning. Bedding old. The stove and dishwasher don't function properly. Due to the price I expected better.

Home away from home

This was perfect for us! The unit was super clean and the kitchen was well equipped to cook for a family. The views were incredible and the short (but steep) walk to the beach was good to get our hearts pumping. When we weren't on the beach, our dog was comfortable on the fully enclosed deck. The proximity to local sites like the Cape Mears lighthouse and short drive to Tillamook made this an awesome location. Note for anyone who might have to work a bit like I did: The WiFi was great and I was able to video conference from this home away from home each morning without issue.

This is our go-to place.

We just returned from our 3rd visit to Bernie's castle. The view is what keeps us coming back. To wake up and look at the waves while drinking coffee and then sit on the deck and watch the sunset made it a perfect place to vacation and social distance from the rest of the world. We had planned on eating out at Rosanna's but they didn't follow the social distancing rules we were used to seeing in Portland, so we cooked every meal. The kitchen is well stocked. If you're a clean freak like me, I'd recommend bringing your own cleaning solutions. I wanted to wipe everything down with disinfectant and couldn't find anything at the local Safeway. I had to use some glass cleaner bought at a gas station. We were nervous when the power went out, but the local contact assured us he was working on it, which was nice.

Great Oceanside Vacation Home

This was our second visit to Bernie's Castle. Wonderful views from the deck and the daybed nook was a favorite hangout spot. Will definitely stay here again.

Great View on our favorite Beach

We had such a great time at Bernies Oceanside rental. Nice and spacious, clean and the view was five stars!! One thing I did wish I knew was that this a triplex rental- it your own house rental. There are three units - one above you and one to the left. So privacy wasn’t the best in that when you’re out on the deck there might be others out on their deck above you. The listing could be clearer on that especially for the price you pay. That and we ran out of garbage bags and tried to call vacasa to tell them, however was on hold for over a half hour and gave up. So remember to pack extra garbage bags. Other than those two small hiccups this house was WONDERFUL and I’d totally come here again! My family loved every minute. So t forget to drive up the highway a mile and a half to see Short Beach- that was so magical!

Long weekend getaway

Unit 3 is lovely and well equipped, with tasteful furnishings and decent beds. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and spices but missing a few basics like cooking oils, saran wrap, foil, etc. The view is amazing, which is something I look for in a beach getaway. There are two large decks and a propane grill. There is easy access to the beach, although there are a number of stairs if you take the direct route. Beach towels are provided. The only drawback is that there are two units above and you can hear people walking and some muffled conversation. I was glad I brought earplugs.

Overall very nice.Deck outside our bedroom could use a good cleaning. Well furnished,,bring own Saran Wrap and foil though.Great view but our neighbors seem to like rearranging the furniture nightly around 9:30. . Convenient to most everything.

Pretty Perfect for as Quiet Beach Get Away

Berni's Castle (no matter which unit - we have stayed in all three) is hard to beat. The accommodations are well stocked with quality articles and the views are to die for. Granted, the castle is perched on the side of a steep hill so the three block walk back from the beach can be rather breathless, but from the balconies the views ARE to die. If you have a physically impaired loved one (as we do) he/she can still enjoy the ocean without ever facing the hill descent to the beach. Oceanside does have a nice cafe and popular coffee shop/eatery, but the kitchens in the units are well stocked with quality cookware so we always load up on groceries in Tillamook and do most of our own cooking. If you are looking for a quality, comfortable place in a quiet community for your beach get away, you won't go wrong with Berni's Castle.

Wonderful Family Vacation

The house was very comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed - including board games, great books, and the Disney channel (we have two elementary school aged children). Gazing at the gorgeous views while reclining on pillows on the seat by the window was a peaceful way to begin each day. Visiting the tide pools on the other side of the tunnel at the end of the beach was our favorite activity. The beach was relatively empty even though we visited in July, and it was a perfect spot for building sand castles and flying kites. It's not the best beach for swimming since it's a bit rough (and cold), but we knew that before we booked.

Great getaway

The view was fantastic!! As soon as my girlfriends and I got there we opened a bottle of wine and sat on the deck enjoying the view and chatting. It was a perfect setup for a girls weekend. Kitchen was fully stocked, bedrooms were clean and nice and bathroom/showers were great!
