Bakkestua (joka tarkoittaa Bakkesin asuinpaikkaa norjaksi) rakennettiin 80-luvulla 80-luvulla 80-luvulla Norjalaisten hämähäkkijärjestön kirkkaalla järvellä ja vain 20 minuutin päässä Haywardista. Mökistä huolehtii nyt seuraava sukupolvi, mutta kaikki norjalaiset elementit säilyvät. Koko ohjaamossa on sekoitus perinteistä ja vuosisadan puolivälissä modernia skandinaavista muotoilua, johon kuuluu kulmakaappi ja rintaosa rosemallimaalauksella, 2 skandinaavista puulämmitteistä, poron seinä seinällä, koristeellisesti käsin veistetty puinen mangaali (perinteisesti käytetty) silitys Norjassa), perinteiset skandinaaviset 'dynes' (peitot) makuuhuoneissa sekä muut norjalaiset koristeet ja huonekalut. Asuminen tähän hyttiin on vähän kuin minimatkan ottaminen Norjaan.

Bakkestua tarjoaa upeat näkymät järvelle jokaisesta asuintilasta ja makuuhuoneesta. Se on tilava ja mukava, 3 makuuhuonetta, 2 kylpyhuonetta, olohuone ja ruokasali, perhehuone, 2 puulämmitteistä, pesutupa, jossa pesukone ja kuivausrumpu, 1 isompi kansi ja 2 pienempää kannetta sekä WIFI (niille, jotka tarvitsevat pysyä yhteydessä tai haluaisi katsoa elokuvaa älytelevisiossa)

Päätasolla voit nauttia kupin kahvia auringonnousun kanssa yhdellä kannella tai nauttia ginistä ja tonikista auringonlaskun kanssa toisella kannella. Kahden kannen välissä on tilava ruokasali ja olohuone, jossa on puuhella, holvikatot ja kaiuttimet, joissa puhelinyhteys musiikin nauttimiseen. Keittiössä on kaikki välttämättömyydet miinus astianpesukone ja se on aivan yhdistetystä huoneesta. Makuuhuoneessa ja kylpyhuoneessa on pääsy yhdelle kansista, josta on kauniit näkymät järvelle ja auringonlaskuun.

Alemmalla tasolla on perhehuone, jossa on puuhella, iso taulutelevisio, DVD-soitin, videokirjasto, lautapelejä, kirjoja, 2 sohvaa, joissa on ulosvedettävät parisängyt, ja kansi, josta on näköala järvelle. Siellä on kaksi makuuhuonetta, joista on näköala järvelle, kylpyhuone kylpyammeella ja suihkulla, pesutupa ja varastotila. Varastohuoneessa on pelastusliivit, vavat, vesilelut ja melat, joita voit käyttää. Aivan varastotilan ulkopuolella on puuta puuhella.

Bakkestua on näkymä 200 metrin päässä järven rannalta rauhallisella ja rauhallisella järvellä, jossa on naapureiden yksityisyyttä, joten tunnet olosi yksin luonnossa. Cleaners in the north woods of WI are scarce. Owner reserves the right to cancel the reservation within 48 hours of booking if cleaner is unavailable.
Pets are super awesome but not allowed on our property because of renter insurance. The good news is that there are two very affordable kennels nearby
You are living like a local, be respectful of the other locals. Limit hours of merrymaking and be mindful that sound travels easily by water.

Wonderful as always

This cabin is so welcoming and clean - it has everything you could need for a calming vacation on the lake. We fished, swam, did puzzles, and played games. The two decks were awesome and we saw so much wildlife. It was peaceful and quiet too.

Relaxing family vacation

Great relaxing trip to the Northwoods :) We loved reading on the porches and having a fire each night. We also rented a pontoon via the hosts' recommendations and went golfing at the nearby Spider Lake Golf Resort. We had a blast!

So glad we came back for a full week! Relaxation and fishing achieved!

The location is so beautiful, so many trees that even hot days are comfortable with the breeze from the lake. We enjoyed the fireplace when cool nights hit later in the week. The home has everything you need and is extremely clean. We already booked again for next year!

Relaxing, Clean, and Comfortable

This property was perfect for everyone in our party (we had teenagers and adults). From the minute we walked in everything was so clean and very comfortable. Every need or want we had was available from the kitchen to the outdoor activities. Communication with the hosts was so easy through email. We would love to stay here again and have already started searching for open dates. We watched so much wildlife from the patios and large windows. Thank you for opening your cabin and sharing so much of your Norwegian heritage, we very much enjoyed all of the decorations and pieces from Norway!

A Bit of Norway in Wisconsin, In All The Best Possible Ways

We were hesitant to write a glowing review, only because more people will discover this gem. The Bakke's have created a serene lake house retreat that's easy to access and hard to leave. Nestled in a quiet bay on the Spider Lake chain, Bakkestua offers all the Northwoods recreation or relaxation you'd hope for. The ample windows and high ceilings give the place an airy open quality, while the Scandanavian stove/fireplace keep chilly nights cozy. The fishing was fantastic, the sunsets memorable, the days full of active fun. Come and enjoy the lake country as you remember it.

A Perfect Taste of Northern Wisconsin

Six of us stayed at Bakkestua for a week: gandpa and grandma, daughter, son-in-law and 2 young grandsons. The layout was perfect for us — grandpa and grandma had the main floor bedroom/bathroom with a private deck, and the other 4 had the lower level 2 bedrooms, bathroom and living room with TV. All 3 bedrooms had a view of the lake as did the rest of the house, except the bathrooms. There was also a large deck with a gas grill for all to share. We have rented homes in Colorado Springs, CO, Portland, OR, Homer, Alaska, and Paris, France - Bakkestua is undoubtedly the best equipped rental we have ever had - water sports (paddle board, canoe, life preservers, fishing rods and reels, great dock for our rental pontoon), a DVD library, a wide variety of games for all age levels, a kitchen equipped with everything any cook would need (including some basic pantry items), and a well equipped laundry area. The location, a bay on Clear Lake, provided a quiet, relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the northern Wisconsin sunsets. It is a short 20 minute drive to Hayward for groceries, shopping, restaurants, and tourist attractions like the Lumberjack Show and the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum. Ellen (the owner along with her husband Paul) maintain a clean and well upkept home for rent — the many one-of-a-kind Norwegian decorations (including personal family treasures and memories), add a particularly homey and family feeling. Ellen was very prompt with responses to questions during the pre-rental and rental process. And following the rental process and during our stay at Bakkestua she provided not only answers to our questions, but also a whole variety of additional information about the local area. In short, Bakkestua provided exactly what we were looking for — a quiet, relaxing week of fishing, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors and attractions of summertime in northern Wisconsin. Thank you Ellen and Paul for sharing Bakkestua with us. We hope to return and would recommend it without reservation to others seeking the same experience we had.

Family Getaway

Good communication and information provided by host prior to check-in. It is a very well cared for property in a beautiful, tranquil location. A doe and her two fawns visited every day. We made use of the games, kayaks, and fire pit. The only down side was we were traveling with a toddler under age 2 and the yard did not have a good play space. They needed to be contained to the deck areas. Something to consider if traveling with littles. There is an incline from the road to the cabin, and the cabin to the lake. Overall, this is a wonderful property and is perfect if you are looking for peace, serenity, and natural beauty.

All around excellent—just as advertised!

This property was just as advertised—and everything we were hoping for as a family vacation destination. The prior reviews are all accurate—this is a lovely cabin in the northwoods. The communication and correspondence with the hosts was prompt and very helpful. The layout of the cabin was just about perfect for our young adult children and their partners—and we loved having two separate decks for morning coffee and listening to the loons. A beautiful fire pit, plenty of chairs, and lots of water equipment down at the lake was everything we needed. 10 stars top to bottom for Bakkestua!

One more Fantastic stay in Bakkestua! We love this spot for privacy, surroundings, nature trails and water activities. Lots of wild life here- while taking a hike on Seeley pass trail we saw running bear across ( and we been places in Montana, Wyoming looking for one-did not happened). Next morning mama dear brought her baby right in front of our window. We saw bold eagles soaring the lake late afternoon. Pleasant memorable moments worth a Kodak picture! Hayward has cute downtown area with small shops and boutiques for people who like to shop. This amazing town has its own charm for everyone.

Relaxing stay!

We booked Bakkestua for a last minute getaway, drawn by the Scandinavian decor and background. Our stay lived up to expectations. As others have commented, it was clean, comfortable, and stocked with just about anything you might need. The decks offered a nice shaded place to relax and enjoy the lake and the dining table a great place to gather with the family for game nights.Highly recommended!

Summer Family Getaway

Terrific hosts, wonderful property, memorable experience! We fished, kayaked, canoed, tried the paddle board, swam, read books, took naps, watched movies, played library and coffee shop, listened to music, and saw northern light and shooting stars while laying on the dock. Above all, we made good memories.

Amazing Quaint Cabin Getaway

We absolutely loved our stay here - the cabin was well-stocked, clean and so thoughtfully decorated. The outdoor deck space was great and we took advantage of the paddle boards and peaceful lake. We hope to come back next year!

We had a lovely stay at this property. Wonderful location. Quiet lake with access to larger lakes. I enjoyed paddle boarding every day, as well as fishing and swimming. There are lots of fish right off the dock to catch too! thanks so much for a wonderful vacation.

Outstanding stay at Bakkestua

We were very happy to find such a beautiful Scandinavian place in North Woods of WI. We loved that cabin had everything what we needed from kitchen appliances to boats and water toys. We found beds super comfortable, instructions very clear. Location is great plenty of trails and lakes to explore, delicious foods at the restaurants. We highly recommend Bakkestua for your vacation destination.

An architectual marvel with every comfort

With a gorgeous view on one of the Northwood's most beautiful chain of lakes. I've never stayed in a cottage where every guest need has been so well provided for--beds, kitchen, boats, videos, games. While modern in design it was also warm, cozy, and appropriate to a woods and lake setting. Immaculately cared for and clean as well.

Peaceful and relaxing stay

This cabin was absolutely perfect! Vey quiet and peaceful. We loved sitting on one of the 2 decks and enjoyed the view of the lake. We brought our boat and enjoyed exploring the lake and others nearby. We also used their canoe and kayaks which was really fun! The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which was very nice since there was 4 adults. The kitchen was fully stocked with coffee, tea, spices cooking oil, and plenty of pots and pans. The cabin was very quaint with all things Norwegian! The owner was so nice and responded very quickly to messages. I would highly recommend this rental. We hope to visit again.

It is a beautiful cabin with the high ceiling that extents to 2 different decks that are secluded shady spots to have your coffee and listen to the loons. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The dining room table was a nice spot to play games and eat. We loved our stay!

Lake and Woods Heaven

The Little Piece of Scandinavia in the North Woods is a little piece of water and woods heaven. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The cabin is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. It was so clean and comfortable/cozy and well equipped with everything you would want/need when living in the woods and on the lake. We spent most of the time on the dock and in the water with kayaks and canoe and paddle board -- the water was warm and clear and when winter rolls around we will reminisce about the refreshing jumps off the end of the dock after soaking in the warm sunshine. We cooked great meals in the kitchen that is better equipped than our own and we visited a couple of delicious restaurants and supper-clubs not too far from the cabin. With coffee in hand we watched sunrises and spectacular sunsets right on the patio decks of the cabin. We will for sure return -- we feel so fortunate to have found this lovely spot. Thank you!

As Norwegian immigrants, Harald and Synnove Bakke were looking for a place to remind them of their homeland. They decided on what they call 'Bakkestua' on the Spider Lake Chain. Harald, who was a prominent structural engineer in the Twin Cities at Bakke, Kopp, Ballou, and McFarland (BKBM) built the cabin in the early 80's. Synnove has passed away, but Harald is enjoying his retirement. They passed the cabin on to their son and his family. All of the traditional and mid-century modern Scandinavian elements remain throughout the cabin, since the younger generation, Paul and Ellen Bakke, enjoy it just as it is, 'A Little Piece of Scandinavia in the North Woods'.
