Amidst lush flowering fields and trees you will find this fantastic vacation home on the farm Hysjulien Gård, located in the idyllic mountain village Skåbu and guarded by the rod mountains. Here you will stay in the exciting realm of Peer Gynt. The farm's roots stretch back to the 17th century and the buildings have been reverently renovated. The cottage is a lovely 150-year-old log house with unique details. On the first floor there are large, harmoniously furnished living rooms with Hysjulien's own fireplaces and long tables. Here you can gather the extended family or friends for conversations and meals. Skåbu (900 m. a.s.l.), located about 85 km northwest of Lillehammer, is the highest village community in Northern Europe. Encircled by Jotunheimen (west), Rondane (east), Gausdal Vestfjell (south) and the Ruten Mountains (north), old traditions such as building, cultural heritage, woodcarving, violin playing, weaving and flatbread baking have been passed down from one generation to the next in the village and have thus been maintained. Hunting and fishing have played an important role in this community for a long time. A highlight in the local calendar is the letting loose of horses in Sikkilsdalen around St. John's Day. The performance of the drama Peer Gynt at the open-air stage by the lake Gålåvatnet at the beginning of August is also a popular event, for which tickets must be booked a year in advance. Other places of interest include the rocky gorge "Helvete" ("hell") in Espedalen, the falconry site at Jotunheimen, the waterfall Vinterfossen, the listed buildings in Heidal and the mountain ridge Besseggen in Jotunheimen.
