Avaamme Casa Paloman retkeily- / tutkimusaikaan marraskuussa ennen KiitospÀivÀÀ ja sen jÀlkeen. TÀmÀ on kaunis aika nauttia Pohjois-Meksikon pohjoisosista ja retkeistÀ. (Viime marraskuun lÀmpötila oli 50 - 70 astetta pÀivÀllÀ / briljanttisininen taivas.) Saatavuus on perjantaina, 16. marraskuuta - tiistaina, 20. (5 yötÀ) & su, 25. marraskuuta - 30. marraskuuta tai 1. joulukuuta. (Aika lopussa on joustava.)

"Casa Paloma" sijaitsee keskeisellÀ paikalla Abiquiu (hyvÀt tiet! - Prius pÀÀsee talomme). Pete & olen viettÀnyt juuri syksyn ja talven & varhaiseen kevÀÀseen uudessa uudessa Meksikon kodissamme nauttimalla perusteellisesti aikamme. Odotimme mielellÀmme pÀivityksiÀ ja teimme siitÀ mukavan loman kesÀ- / alkusyksystÀ vieraillemme. Olemme lisÀnneet ihastuttavaan portaali- ja nÀkymÀpatioon lisÀistuimia sekÀ lasipöydÀn ulkona illalliselle portaalissa. Pete on jopa rakentanut vankan piknikpöydÀn takapihalle, keittiön ulkopuolelle, aamiaisista ruokailuun tai varjoisalle aterolle iltapÀivÀllÀ tai illalla. HÀn rakensi myös hienon, uuden "vaihtovelkakirjallisen" penkin / pöydÀn ylemmÀlle parvekkeelle, siellÀ oleville aterioille tai luoville pyrkimyksille. UUSI 2018 on 2 lokeron autokatos, joka suojaa autoasi voimakkaimmalta kesÀauringolta. Perfect remote restful home

This was my second stay at this home. I enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the remote peaceful area, time to unplug. Stunning hiking close by, clean air, my idea of a perfect get away. The house and kitchen are very well stocked.

Unpretentious and dazzling space for stay in Abiqiui

We are very familiar, for decades, with the magical Abiqiui area. Our stay at Laura and Pete's was frosting on the cake, and for me as good as it can get (other than a week at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert).

Magical property in a lovely area

We loved everything about our two-night stay at Casa Paloma! We spent one night watching the sunset on the upstairs balcony (and convening with the coyotes) and the other watching the stars from the porch. It was scenic, romantic, and functional for our needs. Despite some spotty cell reception, the owners were communicative and kind. Would definitely stay here again!!!

Fantastic home base for exploring Northern New Mexico

The location was an ideal home base for exploring all over norther New Mexico. The property is located in an area with beautiful scenery in a peaceful, quiet country location, great for stargazing and watching wildlife. Highly recommend the walks from the property the owner has outlined. The one negative was a large amount of ants on the patio areas, so we weren't really able to enjoy the outdoor spaces. Although we visited during a heat wave, the the house was pleasant with using shades and opening windows.

The fenced patio leads to a fenced run and there are plenty of dirt roads for walking.This is NOT your typical VRBO: the owners’ left belongings (e.g. sandals, jacket, photos, personal care items) are left in general use areas of the house.No welcome book; online instructions were incomplete (e.g., trash, TV operation – never did figure that out).The freezer is mostly full (owner’s food “pay it forward” items such as Brussels sprouts). Only one small freezer shelf was available—not even room for a frozen pizza.Decor is extreme “maximalist,” even more than in photos. Cozy & cute? Cluttered & tacky? You decide. Owner insists on talking by phone before the stay, which may not suit all guests.Cleanliness was superficial: dusty baseboards and ceiling fans, cobwebs, grime under furniture. Some dishes were dirty and cookware was disorganized. Needs decluttering and deep cleaning.The better-view upstairs bedroom is off-limits to dogs. Jacuzzi tub didn’t work. The alternative downstairs bath has no window covering—could be awkward with guests.Paper products are “starter” only.Many strung-up Christmas lights interfere with darkness for stargazing/sleep.Ants were active and some bite—noticeable when walking outside.Overall: lots of quirks, but the good outweighed the bad. We enjoyed our stay.

Remote & Wonderful

Different from any other property we've rented in the past (and there are many, mostly in NM) this one is fairly isolated, which is what makes it special (easy to get to, though). The views are spectacular and the house itself is very comfortable and well maintained. Although it is in a fairly isolated location it's very easy to get to the places you'll be interested in visiting while there, eg Abiquiu itself, Ghost Ranch, Echo Amplitheatre and the spectacular Plaza Blanca area - all very short drives. I highly recommend this property and would consider rebooking should we decide to return for another visit. Oh, and Santa Fe is a fairly easy drive south as is Taos to the NE.

Casa Paloma

The location is incredible, views are breathtaking. The hiking was awesome, we put a lot of activities into our short trip, and we could have easily stayed another week. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom, the view from the deck was incredible. The bed could be firmer, but the bathroom and jacuzzi were an added benefit. The only suggestion that we had was possibly putting a screen door on the door leading out to the fire pit area. Laura and Peter were extremely responsive to all our emails and, we had a nice phone call after we got there. They offered us a couple of additional days and we would have loved to take them up on the offer.

Casa Paloma - Beautiful Experience

The wonderful experience at Casa Paloma begins with the respectful communication with the hosts. Every acknowledgement of payment was immediate and they provided detailed information on expectations and asked all the right questions. Once the reservation was made, the hosts provided information about the home and the area that helped us plan our trip to maximize our experience. When we arrived at Casa Paloma, the quality of the residence and the property exceeded expectations. It's location is so completely convenient for both town services (Abiquiu, Espanola, and El Rito) there was nothing that wasn't easily attainable once we arrived. Beyond that Casa Paloma's proximity to local attractions made it easy to measure time and modify our plans throughout the trip and really have an amazing experience in this beautiful, artful, and spiritual region of New Mexico. Amazingly, the larger community of where Casa Paloma resides, is a trip of activities in and of itself: leverage Casa Paloma's new stables for horseback riding to the sandstone formations within the neighborhood, hike directly from the front door within the natural beauty among the ridges and mesas, or take many of the loop drives into the art and wine country that the hosts suggest. Casa Paloma quickly became a spiritual and relaxing home for us while we stayed there. The various decks, patios, and comfortable places in the home quickly became restorative vistas for contemplation, writing and reading that I was really searching for and would be completely unattainable in a hotel or in. The kitchen allowed my wife and I to prepare romantic dinners, or host the green chili take out from El Rito which was a 10 minute round trip away. I cannot recommend the place more. Casa Paloma has become a destination for our family, and we are planning to return as soon as possible with our extended family and friends.

Wonderful!

I must say I am confused as to how such a wonderful property can receive a one star rating from anyone. However, I do see that both one star ratings were from people who left shortly after arrival. If they had stayed and worked with the owner, I think they would be amazed at how communicative and accommodating these owners are - much more so than any property manager I've ever dealt with, and I've been staying in VRBO properties for over 20 years. We didn't notice any odors during our one week stay. Nor did we have any problems accessing the properties because of trees. Never saw any mice. Of course the house was a bit stuffy upon arrival due to have been locked up all day, but once we opened the windows and got the fans going all was fine. The cooling fans and adobe construction kept the house at comfortable temperatures at all times - and there were several days when we were there in the heat of the afternoon. There were ants outside the property (not inside), I think due to the mild winter last year, but the owners diligently worked with us to solve that problem. We have been staying in this area for several years, mostly at properties around the lake. Since we don't use the lake facilities, we decided to try a different area and are really glad that we did. The house is so much more accessible than others we have stayed at, the scenery is fantastic, and the only sounds we ever heard were coyote choruses a couple of times a day. Very isolated from other properties. And a wonderful Mexican restaurant just 8 miles up the main road. One of the better equipped kitchens I have seen (probably because the owners actually live there part of the year). We would definitely stay there again.

Lovely northern NM property! Beautifully landscaped with multiple usable outdoor spaces and wonderful views. Hosts really care for the property as it is their part time home. Very good communication. Great hiking opportunities close by, including hiking down a beautiful arroyo just steps away from the house. House interior is nicely laid out but be aware it is very full of the owners' stuff. I think this won't be an issue for most folks, but good to know.

This is the place! If you were wanting access to all things northern New Mexico, this is a centrally located home. Location, location, location! Close to ghost Ranch, Christ in the desert monastery, the church on 84 and the restaurant, Santa Fe, shopping, Taos, ski lodge and shopping, Vanier, national monument and Valle Caldera and much more.You cannot go wrong. The hosts are wonderful and the house is stocked. You can't tell that they are proud owners of this place and take very good care of it. This place is better than a home away from home. You are enveloped in warmth and welcome. The hosts reached out ahead of our travel dates to make sure we had all the information we needed to make our first visit to New Mexico wonderful. The kitchen facilities are the best i have ever seen in a rental. The views from the home are outstanding. The place is very clean and all the amenities very very good. Great stay for access to Ghost Ranch

We had planned to stay in Santa Fe and Taos for. Little over a week and one of our trips involved hiking in Ghost Ranch. This is a good quiet location to stay a couple of nights to be closer to the area. The roads are slightly rough getting to the place but we were in a Jeep so no problems. We were able to grocery shop in Santa Fe before coming to the house so that was good because there are only a few options for groceries around the property as it’s in a remote area. The breakfast burritos are excellent at Bode’s near the Phillips 66 gas station and they have a good selection of wine and other items you might need. Very nice peaceful stay.

Alexandra Stoddard's quote summarizes perfectly our stay at Casa Paloma. From our first communication with Laura and Peter in February, we knew how special their home in Abiquiu would be. We were there from August 28th-September 5th to celebrate our son's marriage at a ranch a few miles away. Laura and Peter were in communication with us from the beginning and even helped us to find places for other guests to stay and places to visit. Given the excitement of a wedding and all the events surrounding a wedding, we knew we also needed a place to retreat and have some quiet time to reflect this momentous occasion. Casa Paloma is that place! I don't even know where to begin. The bluest sky ever, the vast mountain range, the Pedernal view, the sunrise, the sunset, the beautiful hikes right out your door. We were there for the Blue Moon which also was an extraordinary experience viewed right from the patio. I guess I could complain that the stars were not their brightest because of the Super Moon, but for me that just means I want to return to Casa Paloma, when the moon is waning instead of waxing!! If natural beauty surrounded by art, beautiful people, delicious New Mexican cuisine, serenity and peace is a vacation spot, you are looking for, book Casa Paloma immediately. You will never find more caring hosts willing to share such a lovely home.

The property and location are beautiful (though on rough roads). We encountered 3 problems that need to be remedied: a) ants were everywhere outside (and some inside); not matter what treatment we used, they did not subside b) there were mouse droppings in some drawers in the kitchen c) the house lacks AC and got too warm during our week. If these issues are addressed by the owners or managers, then this would be a perfect place to come. But for us, it was too much work to be there. L. Golemon

Pete & I have been coming to the northern New Mexico from Virginia for 25 years now, falling more & more in love with the unique ancient lands, the turquoise skies & red rock mesas. The Sangre de Christos are captivating. So in 2015, we decided to buy into our dream of coming here to 'land & stay awhile'. Pete had just retired: I paint & write & one does not retire creativity, so we've set up a studio in part of Casa Paloma. I've now begun a series of paintings on local coyotes while there in the winter, which now adorn the walls leading to the upper bedroom suite. Meanwhile, you can come & be creative in any way you should chose... Painting, writing, poetry, photography... Or simply just reading about the local area & all of its deep history. Paloma, & this spiritual Abiquiu area, quietly stir the creative juices in one's soul... Come join us & enjoy the absolute peace of place that we happily share with you when we are away.

In our search, many properties for sale in Santa Fe & Abiquiu were out of our league, financially. We reached w/ this purchase, as it was a bit of a fixer-upper. Pete & I spent the month of April in Abiquiu in 2015 upgrading our new home. We updated plumbing (including a brand new kitchen faucet, a pump for the Jacuzzi upstairs & a new water softener). We also painted, inside & out, including re-treading many of the deck steps & giving it several new coats of paint. We also cleared the "Goat Heads" (evil sandspurs) out of the yard, a despicable task. (You & your dogs will thank us.) Our sweat equity is your sweet gain, as all y'all have to do is come & enjoy some downtime in this lovely home & surrounding areas. Oh, & yes, in April of 2015 we added a large Terra Stone 'viewing' patio to the front, & in the fall we came back & built a multi-level wall to flow with the land around it. We commissioned an iron entry gate to be built, then Pete & I finished it beautifully in "Southwest style". We also completed a large (3,000 sq.') dog run outside of the patio & 'rabbit-fenced' a couple of garden areas around it. Pete has built a sturdy picnic table for the shady back area & a convertible bench for the balcony while I interwove the coyote fencing, as part of the dog run. Lots to love!
***Oh, & yes - there are the endless miles of walking, down to the arroyo below us, or on the plateaus above us, for walking the trails & enjoying magnificent landscapes, without ever even getting in your car***.

We chose this home for several reasons: one, we liked how centrally located it was to everywhere we wanted to be, see, or do. The dirt roads (last mile) in are also better than many. But it was the lay-out of the house than sealed the deal. We love the Ponderosa pine beams throughout the downstairs, the Mexican tiles in both baths, the open & airy quality & flow of living - and the quaint wood stove built into the SW fireplace, w/ its nooks, crannies & nichos. Pete & I both enjoy cooking, so the kitchen was a lovely bonus, w/ spaciousness for two to cook-up a feast. (We have left some spices & herbs for you to enjoy w/ your own culinary creations - & there are many cookbooks, as well. There are also a few cloth shopping bags, as Santa Fe has banned plastic. So, bring your cooler, do your shopping, & come cook your meals in-house.)
The views are magnificent, so typical of this area, from most windows of Paloma. One sees the Jemez Mountain Range directly from the portal, w/ the old triangular 'walls' where the caldera (volcano) used to be behind them. There, of course, is Cerra Pedernal, appearing ghostly in the ever-changing skies, & the entire Sierra Negra range is to the west of us. Just to the north is a fascinating red bluff that Pete has dubbed "Laura's Mesa" that I have truly fallen in love with. It is far more intricate & challenging than it seems... (I know; I have a somewhat unfinished painting of The Red Bluff in the downstairs bedroom.)

And the skies... What can one say about Abiquiu skies? Except that they are endless & eat the mountains & swallow the earth & they change constantly, the Drama Queens of New Mexico, day or night. Come, see for yourself. Sit on the viewing patio or the portal, or have lunch on the shady patio behind the house, & just breathe it all in. One need not leave Casa Paloma to enjoy your stay. But still, there is SO much to do just outside your door ...
