This 150-year-old Acadian Creole home was crafted by French Creole descendants to embrace their culture and accommodate the unique environmental needs of South Louisiana. The architectural design features a raised platform, protecting it from Louisiana’s frequent flooding. Constructed from durable cypress timber, the structure is held together with wooden pegs and rests on above-ground piers. The home’s pavilion-style roof—developed in the Caribbean—forms a tent-like shape, while deep porches wrap around the front and back, offering shade from the sun and capturing cool breezes. In the early 2000s, the home underwent extensive renovations to preserve its historic integrity while incorporating modern additions, including a garage and a home theater. To accommodate this addition, An abandoned Acadian-style home was rediscovered near the Mississippi River levee in Modeste, Louisiana and carefully dismantled. Piece by piece, the cypress boards were transported to their current location on Swamp Road, where the home was lovingly repurposed under the watchful eyes of our father. This home is a labor of love, nurtured daily by the devoted caretakers of the Burnett family. It stands as a cherished legacy, welcoming generations to come.
