Paradise

We had an amazing time at the Matapouri Beach House. Exploring the property and the various buildings was magical and we could have easily stayed for another week. The accommodation has everything you need to feel comfortable and at home. The view of the bays from the hillside vantage were stunning and an incredible sight to see every morning when waking up. Susan, our host made sure everything was sorted for us. We'll definitely be visiting again.

more of a paradise than accommodation

We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to stay here. A mixed group of family and friends able to take advantage of the separate dwellings areas over the property. The property is superbly placed to take advantage of all the idyllic spots around Matapouri and further up and down the Tutukaka Coast.

Would love to make this an annual holiday destination!

We had a fabulous week staying at this beautiful property. Great accommodation, stunning views, and so peaceful. There is a track across the road that is an easy walk to either Whale Bay & Matapouri beach for a swim. Or throw the surfboards in the car and easily get to Sandy Bay which is only 5mins down the road. A great beach holiday that we hope to repeat!

Magic Spot

Beautiful property with lots of room for everyone. It is a special spot with views over Matapouri on one side and over to Wolleys Bay on the other. Kids loved exploring the many places around the property. Bird life is abundant. Perfect place to unwind and hang with friends and family.

Paradise

Submerged in an outside bath tub, looking out to the ocean, seeing the leaves above gently sway with the wind, listening to the waves crashing onto the beach below and cicadas celebrating life, while the sun sets slowly and the stars start to come out, you can't help but contemplate how lucky you are to have arrived to this special place. The property is more expansive then it appears in photos (we've only walked around the entirety of it once during our 2 week stay, and it took us maybe 20 minutes to do it) and very well kept. Our kids loved exploring the many nooks and crannies around, looking for treasure, they said. What they found was better than that, with wetas, stick insects, moreporks, tuis and many other amazing creatures coming to say hello. The house itself (the one you stay at, called the bure) is basic, but has all the amenities, comfortable beds plus a wonderful view of Sandy bay. Whale bay, a dream-like beach, with calm warm waters is only a 15 minute walk away from the house. Other beaches nearby can give you a different, more sporty experience, with good conditions for surf or bodyboarding. There isn't much around in terms of shops and so on, but that's kind of the point. The dairy (a small shop with things like bread, milk, ice cream and fish&chips) is very close in Matapouri, and it's a wonderful place, a local hangout spot with a soul, that also makes great coffee. Seeing the Milky way on a clear moonless night, without a single artificial light source to be seen, is something we'll never forget. Susan's place isn't really a house, it's a once in a lifetime experience. And if we're lucky enough to do it again, we absolutely will.

Beautiful location and grounds with a very relaxed feel

The Bach has a great feel about it and really adds to the relaxed feeling of being at the beach. Fantastic views with all day sunshine.

Words cant really describe how sublime this property is and the thought and care that has gone into each of its charming accomodations. Susan is a pleasure to deal with, we had very clear instructions and a hassle free weekend away in a home that felt as if it were our own (we wish!). Hope to visit again soon....

What an amazing property!

What an amazing property! We had a large group of us stay there for nine days and we certainly did not come close to exhausting all our options of things we could do, and places we could go. The property was situated to take in the most incredible views in amongst large areas of native bush and the buildings were well designed for carefree living. This property truly is paradise.
