I know what you mean about that spiral staircase, Jennifer. I'd love to raise the roof on the 3rd floor and add another bathroom up there, but (sorry to say) I don't see that happening soon.

I'm sorry that you were not pleased with your stay in my apartment. I'm guessing that you slept in the loft, since both a futon and a sofa bed are there. The other 2 bedrooms have traditional mattresses, which are much more comfortable. I'm sorry, but I hadn't realized until after your stay that the new cleaning team had put sheets that had not been ironed onto both of the beds in the loft. I'm very sorry about that. As for "cluttered", we all have different levels of preference. Yes, there is a lot of furniture ... (extra tables & chairs) and lots of serving pieces and cooking equipment, etc. Many of my repeat renters are families or groups of 8 who enjoy "cooking in" and having all they need to prepare meals and lots of table space for people to dine, play games, use their laptops, etc. But I will say that if you look at the pictures on my listing, you will see the apartment as it was when you stayed here. No furniture or accessories have been added since the pictures were taken. I guess things must have felt closer together for you in person. Again, I am very sorry that you were not satisfied with my apartment, but I do hope that you enjoyed your weekend despite it all and enjoyed the restaurants and ambiance of Stonington Borough.

I’m very sorry that you were disappointed with my apartment, Stephanie. I wish you had addressed your concerns with me during the week you were here. I had some nice conversations with George and your daughters, and they all appeared to be enjoying their visit, so your review took me by surprise. I’m always open to hearing concerns when a renter is in the apartment and will do whatever I can to alleviate those concerns. I understand that there are some bigger repairs (like the windows) that need to be addressed, but some personal extenuating circumstances have slowed the progress of my doing larger repairs. Many smaller repairs and updates have been done, but those are the things you wouldn’t have noticed because they’ve been completed. Other than the 3rd floor loft bedroom and the front bedroom (each with a single window), I’m not sure how you can describe the apartment to be “gloomy” and “dark”. Unless there is absolutely no sun, the 3 large sky lights over the dining room table provide lots of light during the daytime. And the windows in the living room and slider to the deck off the bedroom also bring lots of light into the apartment. Unless there were burned-out lightbulbs that I missed in the kitchen, if you turn on all of those lights, they brighten up most of the open living area. And the multiple ceiling lights in both bathrooms are quite bright, if you turn them all on. The bedrooms are more dimly lit with lamps, but most people aren’t looking for bright lights in the bedrooms. I’m sorry that the smell of the cleaning product was too much for you. Unfortunately, with a same-day turnover between renters, there is only a short time to do the cleaning and not enough time for the scents to dissipate, so for those who are sensitive to scents, you will smell cleaning products when you first arrive. Other than the smell of the disinfectants, I hope you didn’t encounter any other smells. If so, I would certainly like to know, because I am concerned with the cleanliness of the apartment. I will concede that there are more chairs than needed in the apartment at this time, and after my current renter finishes her stay, I’ll take some of them out. I frequently rent to wedding groups and they enjoy having lots of options for seating when extra family members come to hang out and visit. I added some for a group a few months ago & forgot to take them out. Other than those chairs, the furniture in the apartment is exactly as shown in the photos on the VRBO Property listing. It’s not one particular style, that is true. It’s an eclectic mix of furniture (mostly older & vintage), which some people enjoy and others like yourself do not. When I was putting the towels away after the gals had finished doing the laundry, I was surprised to see that you had used the towels from the wicker chest outside of the bathroom door. Bath towels are in the small bathroom closet, beach towels are in the large cupboard across from the wicker chest, but the towels in the wicker chest are there for the benefit of guests who bring their pets with them. That’s why those towels have seen better days. But since you’ve made a point of mentioning the condition of the towels, I will certainly replace the main bath towels that could be in need of replacing. All that being said, I am saddened to hear that you rated my apartment with only one star. I’m very sorry that you were disturbed enough to rate it that low. You must have really had a terrible stay, and for that I am truly sorry.

Yes, Barbara, I did comment on the front windows, telling you that “all of the windows on the 2nd floor are scheduled to be replaced the Fall” … sorry, but I didn’t apologize for them needing to be “cleaned”. I do admit that the stovetop shows signs of use, but the dishwasher is only 3 years old and the refrigerator is in perfectly fine condition with water filter changed regularly for filtered water & ice. Sorry about lack of printed instructions for the TV, and I’ll see what I can do about that for future guests. Window blind for the slider in the main bedroom is on order and will be replaced soon. However, there is a 3rd bedroom with dedicated A/C and full privacy that you could have used instead of the one that you felt to be hot and not private. Sorry you didn’t like the looks of the bedspread and accessories in the front bedroom. Actually, the bedspread was cleaned about 4 weeks before your arrival. I’ll ask the current renter to let me take it out and clean it again … sometimes things happen that the cleaning gals & I miss. Plants on the stairway are very much alive (the Night Blooming Cereus bloomed last week), albeit they do need some maintenance. Haven’t had time to focus on that area with short turnover between guests. I focus on living areas that guests are using (and sometimes it takes longer than usual to prepare for a new guest). Not sure what you’re referring to concerning “random trash”, but I’ll look at that for sure. Nothing “personal” is in the cabinets & drawers …. Everything there is for renters to use, and so many guests have told me that having some of those items available to them to use was a convenience. But just because those items were in the cabinets & drawers, it doesn’t give guests the right to throw them over the railing of the deck into the side alleyway, to dump them into different drawers, to stash them on the shelf above the refrigerator, or to throw them away. I’m sorry if having those things there made you feel that the space was cluttered or crowded.

So you had a couple of little "bumps in the road" during your stay ..... nothing earthshattering or unsurmountable :-). Glad the location was perfect for you, despite your feeling that the apartment was cluttered. I try to supply things that people might need or want to use while they're vacationing here .... maybe I've over-thought that idea a bit.
