Precision Lodge - 3 one-bedroom units and two private room in a shared house - DISCOUNT ON TOURS!
Luxury granite and other stone finishes throughout this spacious lodge make it a sweet Oasis that can accommodate groups of up to 12 people in three separate units plus two private rooms in the shared main lodge.
A piece of art ready to be showcased to Alaska visitors! Owner, Johney Engle uses his artistic talent to create amazing kitchens for homeowners. He opened, what is still, the only stone fabrication shop from Surrey British Columbia to Anchorage Alaska, in 1985. He built his home and shop here with pride, branding it with custom rock and other 3-dimensional art pieces throughout.
Precision Lodge borders the Tongass National Forest and is near Auke Lake, Auke Bay, and the famous Mendenhall Glacier. It's the perfect base for an adventurous Juneau visit with lots of local flare. Host Johney will help you have a local Alaska experience! If you like the outdoors, you'll love the trails and fishing spots within walking distance. There are many fun, excursions a mile away at Statter Harbor at Auke Bay, including kayaking and whale watching. You can rent fishing poles and bicycles on-site for use within proximity. has provided a host of visitor experience materials for you to peruse, and is there to point you in the right direction for the experiences you're looking for.
Your lodge includes Shangri-La, Suite Rock, Biker's Bungalow, Lucky Duck, and Baked Alaska all with private access, plenty of parking, custom granite kitchens, 3/4 luxury bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling stone finishes, and wall-mounted TVs with both cable and streaming capabilities.
Shangri-la is a one-bedroom apartment with a king-sized bed. It has a separate toilet room. The vanity room also hosts the dual washer and dryer unit for your convenience. The space has a living room with a comfortable new LaZ Boy queen-sized sleeper sofa, a kitchenette with a toaster oven, a hot plate for countertop cooking, a dishwasher, a toaster, and a coffee pot. The gorgeous bedroom features a king bed, large mirrors, and a granite wrap-around desk.
Suite Rock is a one-bedroom apartment with a queen-sized bed and a washer and dryer for your convenience. The space has a living room with a comfortable sofa, granite coffee table, and extra seating. The full kitchen features an oven/stove, large refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee pot, along with other useful cooing tools such as a crock pot and toaster oven.
Biker's Bungalow is a very small studio apartment sweetly decorated with a biker motif, built luxuriously of course! It has a full-sized bed, kitchenette with microwave, toaster oven, and coffee pot.
Baked Alaska and Lucky Duck are private rooms with private bathrooms located within the main house.
Shangri-La, Suite Rock, Lucky Duck, and Baked Alaska are on the second level. You'll have to climb one set of steps to get to the entry doors. Once inside, it's all on one level. The biker's Bungalow is a ground-floor unit. There is one additional room in the main house not included in this rental occupied by a resident who is there every two weeks.
An artist had a dream and he's inviting you to enjoy it. This is an experience, not just a place to stay. You'll be thrilled and inspired. Shangri-La stories will be told as you recant your Alaska vacation memories into the future. Johney is passionate and fun. His work is unique. It's edgy, and it's hard-core. Much of his art is three-dimensional, assemblage style. Johney figured out that he could make kitchens into art, so he studied rock shops around the country, created his tools, and opened his stone fabrication shop in the garage of his home in 1999. Johney's eye for the perfect rock and design to match his customer's personality landed him on the cover of Southeast Living Magazine. He's a classic entrepreneur, turning one sale into another tool, and eventually, he built his shop in the back and expanded the home around it until a masterpiece was created, and ready to share with you. Self-portraiture by the late Skylar Engle is displayed throughout the property. These two Engle's have produced brilliant art, with outstandingly contrasting styles to interest you.
It's self check-in so late arrival is not a problem. You'll be given the lock box code a few days before your arrival.
Check-in is at 4 pm and check-out is at 11 am. We offer early check-in and late check-out if it's available for a fee of $50.
Host Johney lives and works on the property, so it would be unlikely to not run into him at some point. You can check yourself in via a lock box at your private entrance, but Johney is available if you need him as well. He'll leave you alone, or interact, at whatever level you desire. Kelli is close by and easy to get ahold of by phone or messaging.
The property manager, Kelli, is part owner of a large tour company and extends a 10% discount on all excursions offered by Alaska Travel Adventures to Precision Lodge guests. Pets are welcome upon approval for a fee but are not permitted in the shared main lodge. We want to offer pet-friendly places and we want your business, but we want you to be happy. We strive to keep the properties clean and maintained for all guests, which this fee helps pay for. We will strive to provide the best customer service and improve as we go with feedback from our guests. We hope to earn your five-star review. Your expectations should be limited to what is promised here, and reviews should reflect how we did with these promises. Before submitting your review, please remember to base it on the following criteria and what was promised to be provided for the price paid as follows:
Easy check-in process – You'll be able to self-check in. Kelli will give you check-in details prior to arrival, including a lockbox code. You'll be able to access the rental at your leisure after check-in time, at 4 pm. We offer early check-in options, if it's available a couple of days prior to your arrival for $25-$50, depending on your arrival time.
Great Communication – Kelli is known to be responsive to guests before, during, and after their stay. You can expect prompt responses to your questions. She'll respond to website messages as soon as she can.
Clean Accommodations – Your private apartment should be sparkling clean.
Great Auke Bay/Back Loop Location – It's steps from the city bus stop and three miles from the famous Mendenhall Glacier. You can take the bus, which stops one mile away from the glacier. You can also rent a bike, available at the property, and get to the glacier and Auke Bay on trails, bike paths, and short sections of road with shoulder/bike lanes. This is not a downtown Juneau property. Downtown Juneau is substantially more expensive than the Mendenhall Valley, so this location for the price should not be compared to that of downtown. If you want to be downtown and don't want to take a 45-minute bus ride to go 16 miles, then this space is not for you.
Accurate Description of the Space - I try to make continuous improvements when guests make suggestions and do my best to keep the changes updated and published. If I missed something please let me know, so I can update the information. If you are missing something you were counting on, please let me know immediately, so I can try to provide it for your stay.
Great Value – Juneau is expensive, especially during peak season, and while this is a more affordable option, we understand that it can seem expensive. Part of the value is the ability to rent for only one night and have an additional person. The price fluctuates depending on the season. We have to charge more when the business is there so that we can afford to have it vacant for long, slow periods.
Precision Lodge is just 2.5 miles from the Juneau Ferry Terminal, 4.5 miles from the airport, 4.5 miles from the famous Mendenhall Glacier, less than a mile from the University of Alaska, and 12.5 miles from Downtown Juneau. Deharts convenience store, Fisherman's Bend dock and gas station, post office, university, school, and churches are all approximately one mile away.
