Rust, from Maryland, is not truthful - a trait at which he truly excels. He sent me a text upon arrival that "Your cottage is adorable." But then…... he did not want to follow the House Rules. There are too many untrue statements in his review to address them all. In fact, they are pretty much all untrue. Regarding the beach, our two trusted helpers spent 8 hours (a total of 16 person hours) cleaning the beach and lawn area the day of Rust's arrival. So …...another untruthful statement! I have the bill and photos to prove what the beach looked like. . The listing clearly notes the size as 720 sq ft., and the ferry location is clearly visible in the photos and is, in fact, an amenity that we highlight. Everyone loves the ferries. There is little noise, and you do not hear any noise at night when in the cottage with new Pella windows closed as they were in March and always are in the Virginia weather. Perhaps reading would have helped Rust. It was after he refused to follow the House Rules regarding parking, and he and his wife were quite rude to our caretaker when she advised them, nicely, that he needed to move his vehicle off of my neighbor's yard, that he became unhappy and belligerent. He actually parked in my neighbor's yard to try to run an electrical cord to plug in his vehicle - he knew what he was doing and thought we would not see what he had done!!! When he was told that he needed to move his vehicle from the neighbor's yard, he moved it to the lawn/grass on the septic drain field in my yard which is clearly not acceptable under any condition as noted in the Rental Policies/House Rules. He had a designated gravel parking space. I sent him a note advising that if he did not follow the House Rules and move his vehicle from the lawn (a second parking issue) to the designated gravel parking spot in the driveway, as clearly stated in the VRBO web site House Rules, he could depart immediately. He then started to threaten a bad review and proceeded to make up complaints. Eventually, there is always one problem renter. And yes, it is a river and there are snakes once in a while, and I feel it is always best to be prepared rather than not. So, if he could not handle a shovel, if needed, to kill a snake, he was clearly in the wrong place. He should have thanked me for the advise and the shovel. Perhaps Rust should read more carefully, look at the photos, and follow the house rules that are provided. Who parks on the grass/lawn? Just read and follow the rules, Rust. I reported him to VRBO immediately. is this how people from MD behave? And……..being truthful is always a nice trait, one that he does not exhibit. And threatening is never advised. We do not suffer fools kindly - anymore. He certainly did not set a good example for his two children which is, perhaps, the most unfortunate. They will learn that not telling the truth (aka lying) is ok!! So wrong on so many counts.

Yes, i’ve listened to the ferries for over 70 years and love watching them come and go. One of my favorite things is watching the ferry lights at night as they glide back and forth across the river.
