Quiet, lovely stay!

Karen is a friendly and welcoming host, and the room has everything you need for a quiet stay in the hills. The restaurant downstairs is charming!

This lodge was perfect for our getaway. Karen, the owner, was very nice and accommodating! We will definitely return.

Our host texted me and told me that there would be a key waiting for us on Friday night and we could check in at any time. Call her if there were any problems anytime. When we got there, there was no key and no way for us to get into our room, it was after dark and we are two seniors traveling with our dog. There was no cell phone service so we could not get a hold of her. We ended up finding some very nice locals who told us about another hotel we went there, They let us use the landline to try to call Karen. She did not answer. My husband left a message. She never listened to it or called us back. One of the locals took us to her house because he knew where she lived. My husband blew the truck horn four times got out of the truck and knocked on the door. No one even peeked out a window even though there were 2 cars in the driveway. We ended up getting a room at the hotel in town even though they don’t rent to people with pets. The next day. I finally got a hold of Karen and she told me she wrote the wrong day down. She said if we tried to call after 8:30 she was in bed. She apologized, but she wasn’t very apologetic. She said she would pay for our room at the other hotel but now she won’t answer my texts or phone calls. She is a liar who only said that to get rid of me. I would never book from this woman. Someone who would leave people out in the middle of nowhere and is so irresponsible that she writes the wrong day down on her calendar should not be a host.

Your site said it was in Benton, PA. Instead it was 10 miles to the north, in a little, no count village called Elk Grove. It is 12 miles and 20 -25 minutes to Rickett's Glen, not 15. There is nothing in Elk Grove but there is a restaurant at the hotel, which was closed during my stay. There is a decent bar/restaurant in Central, two miles to the south, but that was it for many miles around. I was alone there for my two nights. The doors to the place remain open, no way to lock. A female staying alone, or even with a partner, might feel uncomfortable in this setting. Rooms were nice and recently refurbished. The owner, Ellen, is a peach and will make you continental breakfast in the AM.

There was nothing about the property that we liked. It was run down, no one came to assist us. There was not a soul around to help us, so we left and came back home. Very poor establishment....
