Benvenuto a Shep's Castle, la tua cabina vacanza perfetta su Hood Canal!
NOTA BENE: anche se ho un soggiorno minimo di 2 e 3 notti, se vedi una notte aperta sul calendario tra le prenotazioni, ti prego di contattarmi per una prenotazione.
Goditi il tramonto mentre ti rilassi sul ponte di questa rustica e affascinante cabina degli anni '30. Che finale perfetto per una giornata di nuoto, immersioni, pesca o semplicemente gironzolare in un'incantevole baia privata popolata da alcune deliziose cabine.
Questa cabina con due camere da letto è perfetta per una piccola famiglia o solo per una coppia che desidera godersi la solitudine della nostra bella casa. Il master ha un letto matrimoniale e splendidi pavimenti in acero e un magnifico soffitto della cattedrale in cedro. La seconda camera da letto ha un letto matrimoniale e c'è un futon pieghevole nel soggiorno. È un open space, perfetto per una fuga romantica o una piccola famiglia. La mia cabina è a soli 60 passi dall'acqua, su un bel prato erboso e su un giardino roccioso di proprietà della contea. Sono disponibili tariffe per una notte e due notti, si prega di informarsi :)
I cani sono ammessi, c'è una tassa per animali domestici $ 20 / notte.
Nota: a causa delle dimensioni degli alloggi, Shep's Castle potrebbe non accogliere ospiti di tutte le dimensioni. Non è affatto piccolo, ma una piccola cabina accogliente. È stato portato alla mia attenzione che la doccia di circa 3 "per 3" è troppo piccola per alcuni degli ospiti più grandi che hanno soggiornato.
Siamo situati a pochi minuti da Hoodsport, solo una baia a nord del famoso punto di immersione, Octopus Hole. E a breve distanza in auto dal Lago Mason e dal Parco Nazionale Olimpico.

The very first thing I say to guests when they book is to please, please read the property description and rules carefully to make sure the cabin is a good fit. That darn plant has been part of that cabin for at least 50 years. I've even pulled out the kitchen cupboards and tried to get rid of it with everything known to man. I make that clear in the listing description along with the fact that it's a budget property and is located on the edge of the rainforest so there are bugs, rodents, bears, cougars, etc Please do your part in the future and read the property description before you book. (The plant's name is Georg and I bet he'd have great stories if he could talk)

A cozy cabin with plenty of room for 2 - a short (steep!) walk to the beach, and right next to a cute little town. We loved every minute here, and would come back to relax again.

Our favorite cabin

This was our 3rd stay at Sheps and can't recommend it enough. This was the first time visiting at the tail end of summer and we made good use of the propane BBQ and firepit. Fantastic view and well insulated, cozy space.

Central location to PNW

About an hour or two drive to anything you want to see or do. Beautiful views. Nothing fancy, but a great cozy place to return to after a day of exploring. Main bedroom is very nice.

Quirky place to stay

For our vaca we planned on being gone most of the time. All we needed was a place to make a meal or two, shower, and sleep. This cabin had exactly all of that!This place had it's own quirky flair. If you are looking for luxurious amenities this place is NOT it, but if you are looking for an affordable place to have the basics and beable to have a great water front view! This is it! It's a great place for the price. I would stay again.

Cozy, rustic cottage

This is a nice place for duo or close group of four. Bedrooms are open concept. The master bedroom is the highlight. Nice setting with beautiful views. The kitchen was stocked with what we needed and host was communicative.

The memories they must have

I couldn’t stop thinking about if these walls could talk. Its a really good thing. I feel this is one of the original cabins for settling in the hood canal. It was very cool to sit out front and watch nature. And oh yes! We did see a pod of Orcas. That was very cool. Fun stay for my wife and I, a small cozy house.

My wife and I got away for a long weekend after being kid-free. We brought kayaks and wanted to explore the area. We enjoyed the location very much, with easy access to Hoodsport and Hama Hama. The access to the water wasn't as easy as we hoped, but the fact that there's a little county park in front of the house did work out for us. The neighbors seem very protective of the beach though, so that's weird. Luckily the smoke from the Bear Gulch fire didn't come down low enough to bother us either, but it kept us from hikes up in that area. The house is cute and comfortable with that old cabin charm. There were some plants growing up under the kitchen cabinets, and the landscaping is a bit overgrown, but no bother.

Orca’s and fresh caught shrimp

Everything was as expected and more! There was two days of shrimp fishing and a fisherman who had spoken to us brought us a huge bag of 5-7” shrimp for our enjoyment. We watched two orcas playing for hours from the front porch picnic table while having morning coffee! There were several outlets nearby to the Olympic Park and we saw a herd of Roosevelt Elk at the Jefferson wildlife reserve. Most of all, our hosts kindness and respect plus the cute touches in the cabin really eclipsed the natural wonders we were fortunate enough to witness!

It's a quaint little cabin from yesteryear. It was fine for the limited use we needed but glad we didn't stay any longer just because it's worn out. Kind of like camping indoors😅 It has a newer section that's beautiful but the main cabin is very tired and there is some spongy flooring in the living room that's carpeted over. There is a moldy and wood smoke smell that was noticeable but didn't bather us much with open windows. The beach is rocky and a short steep dirt path takes you there. The view is nice. Beds were comfortable, kitchen well equipped. 3 of us had plenty of towels but only 1 washcloth. The owner was very responsive and pleasant.

Great location! Maintenance needed, plants growing through foundation into house are a clue. Hard for mobility challenged with steps up to bedroom, bathroom down. A bedroom down with a small bed. Bring kindling if you want a fire in ancient free-standing fireplace. Can gather from outside, lots of sticks. Shower not for big folks. Sorry about negativity, we had a great weekend but will find a different place next time. Oh, and the mouse…

Uninhabitable

Couldn’t stay. Had to find an other place to stay. Looks abandoned with broken window in garage door and totally overgrown with blackberries. Moldy smell and acrid odor so bad we couldn’t stay in the house for more than a few minutes without our eyes burning. Moisture stains on ceiling. Floor slopes dramatically and vines growing into the house from under the sink. Owner says it is fine, how it always is and refuses any discount or refund.

As soon as we opened the door a musty stale air met our sense of smell then sitting on the cloth covered couch lots of food particles/crumbs on it,sent lots of pictures to the host and said I can send somebody to clean it at 7pm,so we declined instead we vacuumed it ourselves.The porch was covered with cherry pink blossoms and dried old leaves,the mat in front of the door has not been lifted fir a while evident by dry old dirt and dust.Trying to cook the pots and pan were rusty and old scratched all needed to be disposed,the bowl had dried food debris, emptying the garbage under the sink had dried stems creeping from the wall and lots of dust,the windows were full of spiderwebs.The sidetables were also full of spiderwebs .As we kept sending pictures of our discoveries in the place;the host accused us of harassing,bullying her and that we are scammers.She said we were nitpicking everything and she's been a host for a decade and we were given a choice of vacating the property but there's no available/opening anywhere in the area and we already have our activities planned for the weekend so we just decided to stay.We expected the place to be cleaned before our arrival check in at 4pm given she has been doing it for a decade and pictures speaks for itself and surely we took a lot of them to prove our point.Will never recommend or go to this filthy shack . Advertised as waterfront but it's County park accessible stony beach

Cute but...

I agree with a previous reviewer. This cabin is very rustic, as in plants/vines growing up into the house from below, rustic. I rented this for a get away for my boyfriends birthday and he was not happy. The main reason for the unhappiness is that despite having to pay a cleaning fee, when you get to the cabin you are left with instructions to fully clean the entire cabin, including sweep and vacuuming or you risk losing your deposit. We spent his entire birthday morning cleaning. Really upsetting.

I am working very closely with the cleaning crew and visiting the property myself this weekend to remedy this. Please note: when visiting any property if it is not clean up to your standards please let the owner know immediately so they can remedy the situation. Leaving a bad review without giving the owner a chance to make it right seems truly unfair. We are not always in the same area and appreciate SO much when our guests let us know that they need our help. We like to keep our guests happy but there is no way to do this without you letting us know the situation. Cynthia

Hoodsport Vacation

The property was wonderful. The view was peaceful and great, especially from the bedroom. I would book the place again. One question I have when staying somewhere is: what do I need to bring. For example, there's a grill which is accurately listed in the description. It's a gas grill - quite excellent - so don't bring charcoal. It's not quite clear on the property rules, but do not cross over the property boundary on the beach. We did so and were served legal papers by the neighbors. The property has two bedrooms, but the second bedroom has no privacy as it's open to the only bathroom. This wasn't an issue with us since there were only two of us. The second bedroom would be fine for a small child, but not fine for two couples. Overall, we enjoyed the place and would return.

Not Quite as Advertised

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for five nights on our way to a family event in Washington. After making the reservation, my sister and her son asked if they could join us for one night on their way to the same event. From the website, it appeared the additional charge would be $10 per person per night for a 3 night minimum, or $60 dollars. When I notified the owner, she said the additional cost would be $100. I questioned the rate, and received a defensive and unpleasant message explaining the $100 charge was necessary to cover the additional cost for the 2 guests one night stay. I do not have a problem with the owner charging rates she deems appropriate, but expect published rate information to be accurate. I hope this second and more public complaint results in a correction of the published guest rate information.

I am very surprised by the use of the words "defensive and unpleasant". I try to have open and friendly conversations with all my guests. In this case I called VRBO and spoke with them and they and I both believe that the listing is very clear on the charges for extra guests. I do know the guests were very upset that they could not just pay for one add'l night for their guests but am taken aback by their review. I'm attaching my response to the guests initial argument below, if it seems abrasive I do honestly apologize, I thought I was just being thorough and as clear as I could. "I called VRBO and asked them about this situation. The rental rates state very clearly "Rates are based on 2 guests; add $10 per night, per additional guest" The rate I gave you for 2 guests was for 5 nights, thus the guest rates would equal 5 nights as well. According to VRBO since your initial reservation was for 2 guests it should remain at 2 guests and no unauthorized guests are allowed on the property, per my rental rules. If you would like to add them you will need to pay upfront, once again per VRBO. That being said, I have no problem adding the guests but the charge would be the full $100. I think I'd better agree with VRBO on this one and have you pay upfront so I know for sure I'm following their rules. When we fill out their super long and super detailed pricing forms, that is how they display the extra guest rates. I have not had anyone else question it or not understand it but I hope the VRBO answers have made it clearer. The reason my rental rules state "no unauthorized guests" is that even if they are there for the day I have extra garbage to be picked up, extra towels, extra wear on my septic and property and each of those costs me extra $$. That is why the return of the security deposit states that it "will not be refunded if there are unauthorized guests on the property". Thank you and let me know if you would like to add the extra guests for the price quoted and I will send you a booking request for them. As per my rental agreement, I will also need their full names and contact information. Cynthia"

Weeds growing out of the floor in the kitchen. Ants all over the kitchen. Smoke detector had been covered in foil by previous guests. Linens were dirty. The fireplace is unsafe to use. I did not notice most of this until after I had stayed one night. My husband and friend were to arrive for the second night, but I found other accommodations for us all. I notified host that I was leaving because of the state of the property, did not ask for a refund, and she accused me of trying to scam her. VRBO customer service rep suggested that they would request partial refund, I did not ask. Host then messaged me to say she would take me to small claims court if I disputed the charge on my credit card. Terrible experience overall.

Rustic for better and for worse

This place totally delivers on views and access to the water, and the storied, rustic nature of the cabin is very appealing. However, the cabin could use some TLC. There were lots of large (thumbnail-length) dead ants on the living room carpet and a few live ones in the bedroom, as well as a couple active spider webs in the corners, including one with egg sacs. When we arrived we had to immediately open all windows and doors to get airflow, as there was a strong mildew smell. The railing on the upper porch is clearly in need of replacement, and it was a little nerve-wracking with small children to be up there. Also, the patio chairs and living room carpet have definitely seen better days. The DVD player didn't work, which was disappointing because there is a very impressive DVD collection. Also, there were missing screens in several windows. For more than 1,000 (including all taxes and fees) for three nights, we would have liked a little more care with these kinds of details. That said, we had a great time, and the bedroom (presumably newly added/renovated) was very clean and comfortable and offered a truly stunning view of the canal. If the cleanliness and structural issues are addressed, we would totally come back, fully prepared to give this place five stars.

Hoodsport Cabin Stay

First, I did send an email to the host or property manager yesterday, May 19th at 6:09 p.m. PDT telling her of our concerns. As of now, 5/21 at noon, PDT I have not had a response from her. When we first arrived we almost turned around and went back home. The exterior of the property is severely neglected with overgrown weeds everywhere. There's a huge tree to the left of the stone path/steps and all of the dead blooms covered the stone area to the point where a first time visitor had difficulty determining where the steps were. Inside was clean and comfortable. We had an emergency with one of our rentals and had to leave the next morning but had that not come up we probably would have left anyway. The tipping point with that decision was when we discovered vegetation growing from under the sink and through the cabinet into the kitchen. This also shows neglect. The property is not as described. There is no beach access like shown in the picture and described in the property description. All of that is now a bulkhead with no beach access.

We purchased our vacation home in 1999 and have loved every minute we have spent there. It is one of the rare canal homes that is located off the main highway so it is quiet and peaceful. Now that our daughter is a teenager, we are finding it hard to spend as much time as we'd like there. So we are taking this opportunity to share the beauty and charm of our little cabin with others.

Shep's Castle is a rare find on the canal. Located off Highway 101, it's a peaceful and quiet setting to relax, unwind, walk the dogs or play like crazy while crabbing, shrimping, fishing, swimming, etc. This place has it ALL!!
