We were genuinely looking forward to this stay and chose a vacation rental over a hotel for the extra space and amenities.Unfortunately, our stay began with an entry code that didn’t work. Once inside, we found a strong pet odor consistent with urine, visible pet hair throughout the home, and bugs in multiple areas. The house was already warm when we checked in, although the AC worked enough for us to stay the first night. The next day, we set the thermostat to 60F, but it remained at 79F. Although the thermostat read 79F, the house felt significantly hotter and stuffier than that. When we returned that evening, it was still uncomfortably warm, so we immediately notified the property manager. They were initially responsive but said an HVAC technician couldn’t come until the next morning.Because of my medical condition, I couldn’t risk staying another night in the excessive heat. We checked out around 9:30 p.m. on what was supposed to be our second night, abandoned our perishable groceries, and checked into a hotel. When we requested a refund for the unused nights, the response changed. We were told no refund would be issued and that we’d only receive a credit if the property was rebooked. While we appreciated the property’s initial responsiveness, the pet odor, pet hair, bugs, inadequate air conditioning, and the refusal to refund the unused nights left us disappointed. Based on our experience, we would not book with Sundown Vista again.
