Located in Central Virginia, 35 minutes from Richmond, The Ranch at Red Oak (TRARO) is your Base Camp for nature, relaxation, luxury accommodations, vibrant local activities, and the perfect location for day trips!
Enjoy wineries, amusement & water parks, golfing, architecture, museums, and some of the best culinary experiences, both local and in the heart of RVA.
The James River known as “America’s Founding River” awaits your exploration…. Robious and Watkins Landing VDWR Boat Ramps are within a few miles of The Ranch if you want to bring your boat. The James River runs right through downtown Richmond offering sightseeing rides on an antique paddleboat steamer or on a raft with a trained guide, as well as wading, fishing, rafting, kayaking, or simply relaxing and sunning on the banks and rocks. Richmond is also known for its spectacular bridges. We highly recommend T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge, which is known for peaceful walking, biking and stunning views of the rapids, nature, history, the railroad, and OTHER BRIDGES in our great City.
Day trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Washington, DC, and the Atlantic Ocean (Virginia Beach) await.
TRARO brings you the great outdoors and EXPERIENCES with your family and friends on 30+ acres.
The views are gorgeous. Fields, pastures with horses, barns, riding ring, the forest with trails, the pond, the silos, the stables…. nestled in your own private world of nature.
Grab a fishing pole and hit the banks of the pond, throw on your suit and enjoy hot tubbing under the stars, your tennis shoes or cowboy boots for four-wheeling and walking adventure trails. Smores by the firepit on the stone patio, conversations in the solarium over coffee or cards, horseshoes, cornhole and other outdoor activities in the riding ring (surrounded by the sounds of nature and the natural light from the sun, moon & stars).
The interior finishes of the 5500 square foot home and almost 1000 square feet of outdoor spaces (patios & porches) are of the highest quality (and are undergoing a rustic modern redesign on some of the finishes and furniture to prepare for our April 2024 grand opening). The home highlights and pays tribute to a Southwestern style and rustic charm.
Share meals, laughter, plan and reminisce together in our formal dining room (very Yellowstone’ish) or enjoy the fresh air on one of our outdoor stone terraces. We also have partnered with a local chef for-hire that can design a private cooking lesson around your menu or help you curate the ultimate dining experience or simply provide box lunches while you relax and enjoy your friends and family.
20 minutes to Short Pump Shopping in the west end and 35 minutes to the City of Richmond with history, food & tours by boat, segway, trolley car and on foot. Some of the best golf is close by.
TRARO is a place where you and your littles can go barefoot in the backyard and explore and "wonder" through the trails, the stables, up to the Lookout Point, and around the silos. The perfect place for a game of “hide and seek” and to catch lightning bugs, admire butterflies and to be curious about nature.
If you would like to experience horseback riding, we have a relationship with a nearby horse farm that offers lessons. We have 5 horses in our stables and are happy to arrange a private showing around our stables safely. For equestrians, we have a separate barn with its own private field that we can offer a package for horse accommodations.
When the land was originally purchased over 35 years ago one of the intriguing features was that it was known to have underground quartz, which is credited with benefiting overall health…giving balance, clarity, and energy.
We like to think of our family's ranch as a Southwestern Soul Sanctuary. It has brought 3 generations great joy and true connection. And we want to share that with you and your loved ones.
Fun Fact #1: Originally named Fox Den Farm and operated as a horse farm for many years. We, the second generation, re-imagined it as part of this new hospitality adventure, The Ranch at Red Oak. The land has some beautiful Red Oaks, and we have a curated collection of Southwest artifacts, displayed throughout the home, that are one-of-a-kind. Since childhood, our mom was fascinated with and admired the Native American culture, especially the Navaho Indians. The art and artifacts and special details throughout the home and property are unique and many pieces were commissioned for our family to honor the ideals, traditions, and beauty of the Indian culture.
Fun Fact #2: Our parents were entrepreneurs and shared a love for rodeo, team penning and adventure. Many team penning events were held on the Ranch and Our Dad was on an amateur team that won Nationals!
Make The Ranch at Red Oak your Base Camp!
