Our house is a cottage it's not a palace. We inform guests ahead of time that we have no garbage / recycling service and it needs to be taken with them upon their departure. I am not sure why they rented our place if they could not fulfill that requirement. They could've rented somewhere else at a higher rate which has garbage service if they needed to do so. As for the late departure, we only charge $50 which is way lower than most rentals anywhere on the coast! It I s based on a two hour clean. If a guest leaves late and the housekeeper is ready, she automatically charges us so I need to reflect that and what I chat ge the guest. Of course if they would have asked for a late departure, I might have arranged that with the housekeeper and it would've been fine unless it was a turnaround day which mean we would've had guests coming in the same day at 4 PM. If you look at our ratings we usually have a five star rating. People love our cottage and come back many times. Actually I just got a wonderful message from a guest today who has stayed at our cottage eight years in row and feels like it's home to their family and according to him will be for many years to come The beds are very comfortable and we are always updating our home.

All I can do is rely on what my housekeeper tells me. She's been my housekeeper for several years and is an honest and kind person. When she arrived at the house it reaked of fish. The guest did not take their garbage with them and there was a fishy smelling liquid in the bottom of the garbage can. The duvets were covered with dog hair and smelled bad. She not only had to wash the duvets and sheets, but also the comforters themselves. She sprayed the carpets with Resolve and scrubbed them to try to get rid of the smell. Also the dehumidifier was turned off which is supposed to be on 24/7. The house will get a moldy smell if it's not on constantly. We are located at the beach and it's an old house, hence the dehumidifier need. During the Summer months we have back to back rentals most of the time, so it is difficult to get a deep clean in. Therefore sometimes there will be some areas that are not sparkling clean. It takes extra time to get to everything on the list and there is little time to do so. Our home is a cottage. It is not a 5 star hotel. Our prices are fair and we rarely get a complaint. We are blessed to have great guests and many return guests at that. The rules if the house with dogs are they are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture. It says in the paperwork that I email and on the website that if these rules are not followed it will result in the loss of their security deposit. We are strict with this rule as there are guests who have allergies and we try to keep the carpets and furniture free of pet hair. And I'm not sure how she thought there was no back-to-back reservations before or after her. There were on both sides of her stay. Unfortunately I never saw the email regarding disputing the loss of the security deposit. All I can say in my defense is that I get an overabundance of emails everyday and I sometimes miss an important one. All in all, the guest got the security money back and I paid my housekeeper out of pocket for her extra time.
