Maison Ames 223: Historic Downtown Ames; 1,800 sq ft; Walk to Everything

Maison 223 sits on Main Street in the heart of historic downtown Ames: 1,800 square feet on the second floor of a beautifully preserved building, with coffee shops, restaurants, and Ames' best independent stores just outside the door. Iowa State University is minutes away.

This is a space built for spending time in, not just sleeping in.


The main bedroom holds a queen bed and its own private lounge: a 55-inch TV, a couch, two chairs, and a desk with monitor. It's the largest room in the apartment and works as a retreat of its own.

A second skylit room offers a daybed, two bookcases, a standing desk with monitor and printer, and its own ensuite full bathroom. Natural light pours in from above.

Between them, a skylit sitting room with a sectional and 65-inch TV gives everyone a second place to land.

The full kitchen anchors the apartment, with an island seating four and a dining table seating eight, which is why this space works so well for families gathering before a game or after a campus tour.

Two full bathrooms. In-unit washer and dryer with non-toxic, locally sourced detergent from Z.W. Mercantile, our local refillery. Central heat and air. Fast wifi.

Who it's for

Parents visiting students. Remote workers who need a real desk and a printer, not a laptop on a kitchen counter. Couples in for a game or a long weekend downtown. The apartment sleeps three comfortably, a queen and a daybed, while giving a larger group somewhere to gather during the day. Larger groups are accomodatable upon request.

Good to know:

Second-story walk-up, no elevator. Free reserved off-street parking less than a block away, plus free street parking on Main after 6 PM. The downtown farmers market runs Saturday mornings through October and limits vehicle access to the front door until 12:30. Some street noise on weekend evenings, well managed by heavy double-paned windows. Exterior security cameras at the front door and rear stairs. No smoking, no pets.
