We enjoyed everything about our week-long vacation at the Gecko Cottage. Phil and Julie's home was comfortable, well-stocked and had more than enough room for our crew of 4 adults and 2 young kids. The location is superb. We easily walked or biked to the beach as well as the shops, restaurants, grocery store and library in the adorable downtown area of New Buffalo. It's also a great home base for exploring other towns and activities in SW Michigan. We were able to find a pick-your-own blueberry farm just a 10-minute drive away. The kids and adults alike loved taking advantage of the nearby pool as well. Phil and Julie were wonderful hosts and communicators. We would highly recommend a stay at the Gecko Cottage!

This cozy, yet spacious, house has EVERYTHING you could possibly need for a family vacation. We loved our stay. My favorite is the large couch and dining room table near the kitchen. Everyone was able to lounge, play games, and snack. Mornings were perfect on the front porch! Thank you for a fabulous stay- the hosts have really thought of everything!

Great for an easy vacation!

We had a wonderful trip. Location is perfect, close to town and beach. community pool was so fun and easy for the kids. Great communication with the owners. We hope to come back!

Great Family Vacation Home

This home was great for our mini-vacation! Three floors of accommodations provided room to spread out for the three generations on our trip. House was very clean, had everything we needed, and was in a great location! Owners were super easy to work with and responded quickly and even accommodated our special request. Thank you! Would definitely stay here again!

We had the best time at this property! Absolutely perfect for our family vacation with young kids. Made great use of the neighborhood pool. Walking distance to pretty much everything you could want to do. Would love to stay here again!

Chill Bachelorette

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights, for a chill bachelorette weekend getaway. We had so much fun, and the house was the perfect size, we each had our own space plus great gathering rooms when we played games or just sat around and chatted. The porches were wonderful, and we loved the walkability to essentials and other parts of town. Great hosts, would definitely recommend!!

Choose Gecko and Get Going!

It was a wonderful stay at the Gecko Cottage. The home is charming and well-appointed, with lots of places for both kids and adults to hang out. It’s super close to New Buffalo center but also off the beaten path and feels quiet. Pool and beach toys in garage are a plus. Thanks Julie and Phil!

Another great stay!

Such a great layout for a larger group. So many "extras" in the kitchen that come in handy. Definelty took note of some upgrades including flooring, bidet and sectional. Perfect location - can't get much better!!! See you next time!!!

Great location with tons of space

Our family group of 7 adults stayed at this property. We were in New Buffalo for the first time for a family wedding. We loved how walkable this location was. Coffee, lunch, drinks, the beach, etc. were all just minutes away. Because the house is three levels with three full and one half baths, everyone had plenty of space. The house is so clean, charming and very well stocked with plenty of kitchen items, towels, and other amenities. There are also tons of books, games and toys. The hosts were wonderfully responsive to all of my questions. The check-in process couldn't have been easier.

Labor Day Weekend Stay

We were at Gecko Cottage 8/30-9/3with our 4 children, 4 grandchildren 5yrs and under, and daughter in-law. Really enjoyed the house. Beach was in walking distance, and also bars. We had "private" time in the pool Sunday AM. Playroom was great for the kids. Thanks again. Phil answered our questions quickly.

Gecko Cottage was great!

The cottage was roomy and comfortable enough for all 10 of us. The lovely community pool was around the corner, the grocery store, ice cream, pizza and fun downtown shops were 2 blocks away and the beach was just aother 10 minute walk from there. We really enjoy New Buffalo - we've been coming to New Buffalo for our summer vacation for a number of years now and Gecko Cottage has been our best location so far!

Excellent House and Property

Group of 10 across three generations loved the Gecko House. The proximity to downtown is perfect. We walked to to the grocery store, numerous restaurants and the beach. The multiple levels with full bathrooms on each level, worked great for our three separate families. The neighborhood was full of families and our kids enjoyed playing with other children. New Buffalo was a very nice town with everything we needed. We typically drove the to beach, but it is a very reasonable walk. Phil and Julie were great ahead of and during the stay.

Fabulous

Your house is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a family. The playroom was perfect for our two little ones. The kitchen was so well stocked. The foodies in the group were thrilled with that. We loved your front porch. Spent every morning enjoying our coffee there. The pool was an added bonus. Everything was within walking distance, the beach, grocery store, shops and restaurants. The booking process and the checking in and out was so easy. Phil, the host was terrific. He was readily available anytime I had a question and responded promptly. We definitely will be coming back. Thanks Phil and Juli for a wonderful vacation. Best experience we have ever had with VRBO.

Perfect Week in New Buffalo (Again!)

This is our sixth year vacationing in New Buffalo and our second time staying at the Gecko House. This home on Merchant Street is a wonderful place to spend the week! More than enough space for our family, wonderfully stocked, and I can’t say enough about the location. We walked everywhere!! The owners, Phil and Julie were responsive to all of my inquiries and even went above and beyond, checking on us when a terrible storm blew through. I highly recommend this home if you are traveling to New Buffalo Michigan!

Wonderful!

We had such a lovely time at Gecko cottage! The house was perfect for our family - great spaces for the kids and adults. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. We also really enjoyed the community pool and proximity to downtown New Buffalo. The hosts were fantastic and very communicative when we had questions. We’re already planning to come back. Wonderful stay!

Host: Phil & Julie

Welcome. We camped and vacationed in the New Buffalo area with our family for over 20 years. Finally we took the plunge and got a place of our own to enjoy with our kids, grandkids, and of course to share with you, our beloved guests.

Phil, water person, is happiest in and around water., May-October he enjoys long swims in the lake every day. He has taught sailing and sailed on Lakes Erie, Huron, Michigan, Superior and in the Mediterranean.

He's an avid biker. Pick out one of our bikes, old but trusty, and use it as the best way to get around town, get exercise and enjoy the lake air. If you love boats, stroll the huge marina, and partake of the excellent, but a bit pricey, marina resturants.

Julie loves long walks on the beach, bicycling and the fact that you can do everything without having to get into a car.
Always the teacher, she's all about books & community, and loves the library.

We're Michiganders from Ann Arbor and love helping you plan your trip, so ask away. We'll do what we can to make this a memorable stay.

A quiet place to relax, within a short walk to everything.

The enjoy we hanging out and our cottage friends and the opportunity to host great people!

There's a pool and shopping, dining and of course the wonderful library & beach within a short walk.

Coffee maker or French Press. Paninni Grill and Popcorn maker. It's ready for fun.

The kitchen is well equipped, roomy and spotless with an open plan everyone will enjoy.

Park the car (or come by train) and forget it 'til you leave. Barneys, a well stocked grocery, is only a block away. Comfort convenient by the big lake. What could be better?

Easy bike trip or drive through Harbor Country to Warren Dunes and the peacefulness of the Lake Michigan shoreline & towns. We've recently discovered a bike path which is completely on back roads. Ask us!
Stop for antiquing, coffee and sandwiches on the way. Maybe bike to wine tasting the next day.

We love it here because the water is warmer than further north and Its quick to get to. Having Amtrak to Ann Arbor or Chicago, or hourly South Shore Line Trains to Millenium Plaza in Chicago is a real bonus.

We've been vacationing in the New Buffalo area with our family for almost 20 year. Finally we have a place of our own here to enjoy and to share with our guests.

Julie loves decorating and adding small comfort touches throughout. The house is a great design and we do our best to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. Welcome.
