Astrid's family has been coming to Lanzarote since the 1980's. While not the original reason for coming, the fact that allergies appear to disappear with the dry climate has kept her mother coming to this day.
The stark beauty of the island is unique and the more time you spend here, the more you find it has to offer. The volcanic landscape sloping towards the jagged shorelines interspersed with beaches all under magnificent blue skys are the first things that captured our eye. But we also love the beautiful vinyards in the center of the islands and our favourite beaches such as Arietta and Famara each with a favourite restaurant of course. We enjoy the hiking, biking, playing golf and Luca and I regularly square off at the go-cart track.
But all the sites and activities are only part of the reason we are in love with Lanzarote. The climate here, especially in Costa Tequise is magnificent. The average high temperatures range from 21 degc in Januar to 29 degc in the summer...and it is almost always sunny but the breeze from the Atlantic ensures that you never feel too hot...like you do in the Medeteranian regions...so a terrific place to be 365 days a year.
We live on the edge of Costa Teguise...so we have all the benefits from being adjacent to a tourist town with all its amenities but still can enjoy the crashing of the waves in peace and quiet.
We are also just a short drive from the largest town, Arecife, which is the commerical centre of Lanzarote. Anything we can't find in Costa Tequise we can certainly find in Arecife. While more like a small bustling city, it is certainly worth a visit with some historic sites...and as always...great restaurants.
The airport is also just a 15 minute drive on the far side of Arecife...close..but not too close :-)
