Located on the hills of the first countryside of Romagna, at 1 km from the medieval village of Dozza and 25 km from Bologna, Villa Calanco Country House is an elegant eighteenth-century country house set in a parkland with ancient trees and a farm of more than 3 hectares. The structure has just been completely renovated by the owners who have personally taken care of the details with particular care and with full respect of its history.The apartments has been carefully restored and furnished, which keep intact the charm of the rural tradition of Romagna, like the ancient terracotta, wood, raftered ceiling , antique doors and furniture, giving life to a sober and elegant style that blends the modern comforts.The comfortable and privileged geographical position allows to reach cities rich in history and art as Bologna ( 25 km), Ravenna (52 km), Ferrara (74 km), Imola ( 7 km), Faenza ( 22 km), Brisighella ( 32km) and Dozza (1 km), one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

The area offers a variety of courses related to the food and wine tradition typical of Romagna. Typical products are piadina, salami and the 'minestre', those are the first courses of handmade pasta ranging from noodles to macaroni comb (garganelli), ravioli with ricotta, tortellini. Among the main courses meat on the grill, as mutton and sausage. Everything always accompanied by the famous local wines.

Villa Calanco - Apartment Antonio

Lovely restored apartment within a villa, clean and well maintained. Franco and his family are very friendly and welcoming. Good location for exploring the area, and Dozza lives up to its reputation of being one of Italy's most beautiful villages. Would definitely recommend and return to.

Beautiful location

In the vicinity of Bologna, Ravenna and Ferrara. Imola was a surprise. Wonderful and very well managed swimming pool. Wine from the house. All things needed are present in the apartment. Airco. Very friendly and helpful host.

A wonderful week

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Villa Calanco, where we received a warm welcome from Franco. The apartment was clean, comfortable and very spacious for the two of us. The grounds are beautiful with lots of places to sit and enjoy views of the surrounding countryside. Whilst the Villa has a real country feel, it is well placed for easy access to the motorway and close to free parking at the nearby train station, making it easy to take day trips to Bologna, Ravenna, Florence etc. After days exploring, it was always lovely to come back to cool off in the well-maintained swimming pool. We would highly recommend a stay at Villa Calanco.

Wir haben in Dozza einen schönen und sehr erholsamen Urlaub verbracht.

Unsere Erwartungen wurden mehr als erfüllt. Das Anwesen ist sehr groß und bietet viele schöne Orte zum entspannen. Der Pool war angenehm groß und hat unseren Kindern und uns sehr viel Spaß bereitet. In unserem Appartement haben wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Alles war bei unserer Anreise wunderschön vorbereitet. Die Ferienwohnung können wir nur weiterempfehlen. Grazie Franco

great villa and relaxing garden!

Beautiful old villa, stylishly restored with a huge garden and modern pool. We really enjoyed our time there and also enjoyed the animals (goats, chickens, geese). In the garden you'll find fruits and vegetables and many idyllic dining and seating areas. Everything is very clean and well maintained. Dozza is a pretty little artist village and easy to reach on foot. Our favorite city of Bologna is only 30 km away and is always worth a visit. Juste parfait

Un accueil très agréable. Une très belle propriété au calme. L’appartement Antonio est juste parfait tout est à disposition avec dans le frigo une bouteille de vin blanc et une de San Pelegrino. Le propriétaire Franco est très souriant et très accueillant, il nous a permis de passer un séjour très agréable. La situation géographique de la propriété est parfaite, Dozza est une commune de toute beauté, à moins de 6 km d’Imola et à moins de 30 km de Bologna. Nous avons pu naviguer pendant une semaine dans l’Emilia Romagna et garderons de ce séjour des souvenirs merveilleux. Nous reviendrons sûrement dans cette région et pourquoi pas ici. Jean-Yves

Delightful apartment for visiting area

Enjoyed the apartment with its old history and features. Nice to have bedroom upstairs via spiral staircase. Spacious grounds with nice swimming pool and eating out areas. Rustig, mooi landgoed, centraal gelegen

Wij verbleven een week in het appartement 'Antonio'. Het appartement is sfeervol ingericht, mooi, ruim en schoon. Alleen de eetkamerstoelen zitten niet echt heel comfortabel. De ontvangst door de gastheer was allervriendelijkst. Ook gedurende de week is de gastheer steeds in de buurt voor vragen, maar hij houdt zich verder op de achtergrond. De buitenruimte is heel mooi. Er zijn verschillende zitjes in de tuin en bij het zwembad zijn genoeg ligstoelen met parasol. Het nabijgelegen plaatsje Dozza is zeker de moeite waard. Op een paar minuten rijden zijn supermarkten, tankstations en ander soort voorzieningen. Ook centraal gelegen voor een bezoek aan Bologna of Ravenna. Het is fijn om na een bezoek aan de stad terug te komen in de rust van het landgoed. Aanrader!

Erholsamer Aufenthalt in wunderschönem Landhaus

Wir haben 14 Tage im Apartment Antonio verbracht und unserem Aufenthalt dort sehr genossen. Die Wohnung ist sehr schön im Landhausstil eingerichtet und war sauber und ordentlich. Die Villa Calanco liegt sehr ruhig inmitten von Hügeln und Weinbergen. Bei schönen Wetter kann man sich an den neuen Pool legen oder die vielen Sitzgruppen im Garten nutzen. Das Grundstück ist riesig groß. Dozza liegt sehr zentral in der Emilia-Romagna, sodass es sich ideal als Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge nach Bologna, Ravenna, Modena oder in den Appennin anbietet. Franco ist ein sehr netter und angenehmer Gastgeber und wir können die Villa Calanco weiterempfehlen.

Schön gelegen und liebevoll restauriert

In einem großen Garten finden sich viele Plätze zum Ausruhen. Die Wohnungen sind geräumig, hell, schön eingerichtet und funktionell und gut gesichert. Leider wurde während unserer Anwesenheit an dem Pool gebaut und stand so nicht zur Verfügung.

Lovely Dozza

We spent a wonderful week at Villa Calanco, outside of the village of Dozza. Our apartment was cozy and charming, with a cottage feel. It was well equipped and extremely clean. The only drawbacks were a very firm mattress and bed pillows and the spiral staircase to the second floor bedroom and bath might not appeal to everyone. The rural setting was surrounded with vineyards and picturesque fields, in what is still an active agricultural area. The grounds are beautiful, with chickens and goats on the property, and fresh eggs are available. Our host Franco was extremely helpful and accommodating in providing information about places to visit in the neighboring towns. He was available when needed, but never intrusive. Despite the rural setting of the property, a large supermarket is within a five minute drive, and the city of Imola is less than a 15 minute drive. A short ride up the road is the tiny village of Dozza, with its castle and old world charm. Convenient free parking is at the entrance to the village, with a short walk up the hill. The village hosts four excellent, reasonably priced restaurants which were a pleasant surprise. Over the years the walls of the buildings have been painted with murals by visiting artists in styles varying from classical to modern. Rather than drive to Bologna, we opted to take the train from Imola, a less than 30 minute trip. Other towns, such as Ravenna, San Marino and Ferrara are within driving distance for day trips. This was our first time in the Emilia Romagna region, and it was a very memorable experience.

A very nice stay in a lovely house

Franco is a great host and very helpful. Apartment Antonio was perfect for two people (three or four would have been a tight fit) and is very well kitted out with everything you need. We enjoyed eating outside in the various areas provided in the garden and the pool was great. For eating out in Dozza we'd recommend La Scuderia and La Corte di Caterina which is right by the castle with wonderful views. We would definitely recommend this apartment and villa.

Calm and restful retreat

Villa Calanco proved to be exactly as expected from the website. Apartment Antonio was charming and comfortable, with everything we needed. the owner and family were more than helpful. We signed up for one of their cookery classes which was really interesting followed by a delightful meal with the family. The location of Villa Calanco is ideal for many places - Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini - we even drove as far a Verona and Padua in a day. And the painted village of Dozza is unique and charming. Apartments Antonio and Anna are accessed from the first floor, which I think isn't clear from the website so to reach the numerous relaxing areas in the grounds you have to go downstairs. "Antonio" faces up hill over the gardens and gets the evening sun; from "Anna" you look down hill over the valley with distant views and get the sun in the morning. All in all, would highly recommend this place; very peaceful and restful.

Great atmosphere!

We stayed 7 days in apartment Antonio. The apartment and the entire complex has been renovated and decorated with care. The property has a refined, civilized and friendly atmosphere and so is the owner. If you don't have to pay a deposit and cleaningcosts that gives a sense of mutual trust and respect!

Comfortable calm place plus charming landscape.

We stayed for two weeks in the apartment Antonio, well-equipped and clean. The beautiful garden around the well-restored Villa is perfect for relaxing as well as for children to play. Franco offered a lot of updated information for getting familar with Dozza and the region around. The place is an excellent starting point for a number of short and longer excursions. There are good shopping opportunities, especially in the near Imola. That's definitely a place to come back and stop by at least for a few days.

Franco was born in Tuscany and has known Teresa on a trip to Africa. Both are travel enthusiasts.
In 1999, Franco, Teresa, and the kids Antonio and Anna from Tuscany are transfered in Dozza.
Franco immediately was fascinated by Villa Calanco, dwelling which since 1700 has been owned by the family of Teresa
As a restorer has personally coordinated and executed many of the restoration works that have lasted over 10 years.
Teresa, graduate in history, works at the State Archives of Imola.
Antonio is an architect and works in a technical office in Imola and Anna study at the University of Bologna.
