The Creekside Cabin at A Private Estate is a charming place to stay, especially when the summer (or autumnal) heat is oppressive elsewhere. The cabin has ready access to the glorious Hudson River via the Cheviot dock, with a convenient place to put in a kayak, canoe, or sailboat. It also has its own creek right down the hill out the back door, for fishing, stomping, and exploring.
The house is newly constructed, equipped with air conditioning and a fully functional kitchen with cooktop and comfortable bathroom, but it has a very traditional feel. Everything is tastefully outfitted and very cozy. Making breakfast with that view, and the wildlife on display out of the window is a joy. We did not miss an oven, especially not with the grill outside. There are some terrific locally grown meats and of course vegetables available at the area farmers markets to cook there.
We enjoy the access to walks along the country road, which has some very historic looking houses along the way. We also explored the trails elsewhere on the property, which includes some old orchards. This is a convenient location, as well, for a vehicle like ours, which is rather low-slung. I would rather come here when there is either mud or snow on the ground than somewhere farther off the paved and prepared road. This place is also wonderfully convenient to the picturesque town of Tivoli, in one direction, and the eccentric magnificence of Olana, and all the shops and apple orchards in Hudson and its environs, in the opposite direction.
The hostess was exceedingly gracious and helpful, and knew everything there is to know about the area. This is an adorable hide-away, and I look forward to running away there again soon.
