The Old Cottage, Vrachnos, Andros Island

Set in a secluded part of Vrachnos village perched on the slopes of Gerakonas mountain of Andros Island, this charming well maintained 130m2 stone cottage dating back to the late 1800s retains its original rustic character and stands in 400m2 private grounds. The spacious terrace and garden surrounded by an orchard with lemon, orange, almond and cypress trees are perfect for children and quiet relaxation while the house boasts its own grapevine. An ideal location for exploring the lush mountain range and gorges with spectacular views all the way down the coastline and nearby picturesque settlements as Hiking Trail No 18 is literally at the property’s doorstep. Very well located for reaching some the island’s most beautiful beaches. Furnished with original family antiques and artifacts the house features a large, comfortable living room with sofabed, dining room with stone fireplace, large farmhouse-style kitchen with breakfast table. One bedroom with double bed in the main house and one bedroom in the adjoining renovated old stables with double bed and en suite bathroom with toilet which is shared but with access from outside. Ideal for 4 people but can also accommodate 6.

short stay not adapted to our needs

We had to leave the house earlier because the temperature was so high inside the small bedroom that we couldn't sleep. The steps to access the house are quite long with this heat, with children and no drinkable water in the house we had to carry water bottles all the way from the parking area and it was too much for a short holidays. The house is charming but best for hikers who want a proper retreat far from everything, probably out of the hot summer and with relative comfort

Exactly what we wanted

We had the most wonderful stay here. We were wanting so badly to recuperate after the last couple of years of the pandemic and a lot of stress in our family, and Katerina's family home made our trip everything we could have wanted. Brought our two young children, 4 and 6, and stayed for a month. Friends thought we were nuts to go for so long with young kids and to such a quiet place ("Won't they get bored??" they asked), but it was just the most magical, restful time. Not a single boredom complaint, even though our days were the same, always slow. The home was so delightful, we were lucky if we left it before 5pm! Katerina and her mother were extremely welcoming and generous. Hope to come back again and again.

Mountain Village House on Walking Route

Katerina's unique independent villa is located within its own grounds in the heart of a mountain village at around 200 metres above sea level. It is 35 mins (down) to 50 mins walk up from the Chora (Andros Town). The house is located almost directly on Andros walking Route 18 and is ideally positioned to take advantage of the Islands extensive walking network. It is however located some distance (a few hundred yards and many steps) from the nearest car parking area. This has the advantage of there being no road noise, but it will not be suitable for everyone. We stayed for 11 nights in early November and did not need a car. Walking to the supermarket and restaurants in town on the old paths was a joy. The house, which dates from various periods is a bit quirky. The lounge is the most recent and is a big airy room. The bathroom, which is the oldest has a beamed very low ceilings. The house is fully equipped and, as long as you are looking to stay in an original village home with lots of character you will love it. The only real limitation for us was the size of the beds. If you are average height and build they are probably just usable as doubles We had to use a bedroom each. Overall, a great place to stay in Andros.

A beautiful Place

A authentical, wonderful house with a phantastiv view. Also the interieur is beautiful. You can walk right from the house on signed hiking routes. We enjoy it very much, to be here and can recommend it hghly. And Katerina is a very helpful and friendly owner, ready to help and giving hints. Maria and Dieter
