Punta Burica Accommodations: Rural, Nature, Mysticism, and Tranquility

Punta Burica Rural Lodging is located at the southernmost point of Costa Rica—after Cocos Island—surrounded by nature and considered the country’s last remaining natural area. Among the tourist attractions we offer are the recently discovered mystical stone piers, a visit to Costa Rica’s “Mojón Uno” (Boundary Marker One), which borders Panama, and you can also travel to Burica Island and Viuda Island, go horseback riding to the “Pierda Barco,” and exploring the Baco Tree, seeing the stone faces that emerge from the sea with the tides, the stone windows, horseback riding, and sampling traditional Costa Rican country cuisine, as well as enjoying the songs of toucans and other bird species that visit the cabins. Since it is such a remote and hard-to-reach location, a passport is required to get there via Panama by 4x4 vehicle or by taxi from the Panamanian border at Pao Canoas, which takes about 2 hours by car. The other option is to travel by boat from Pavones; the boat ride can take up to 3 hours to reach the lodge. For hiking and mountain sports enthusiasts, access is available only with a specialized mountain guide; the trek takes 2 days through the mountains of Punta Burica to the lodge.
We have a rural cook and a tour guide. If you’d like to visit us, please book in advance, as the area is currently very popular with local tourists.
Our lodging is rural; there are no nearby cities, basic services are not available, and cell service is limited to certain areas near the lodging.
