Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which retain their charm and character, and Cartmel, the home of sticky toffee pudding, with its famous racecourse and the 4th best restaurant in the UK, L'Enclume.
