Beautifully converted barn, 3 bedroom, 5 min River Charente, 40 min from beaches

Originally a barn this beautifully converted luxury, detached gite, has it's own private garden area, sitting amongst trees on the edge of the charming village of Crazannes, just a 5 minute walk from the River Charente. The nearest town is Saintes which as well as offering many places to visit with its Roman Heritage, has all your shopping needs.

This attractive, comfortable and very well equipped gite is ideal for family holidays with everything you would need for a young family. Or this peaceful setting is ideal for a quiet get away. Spend the day by the shared pool or relaxing in the garden. Or visit one of the many beaches most of which are just a 40 minute drive.

Also perfectly located for those who wish to explore the area or to just relax and enjoy the weather! With beautiful sunny days throughout the year this makes it a perfect location for walking and cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside and for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages.

What's in the area?: With just a 40 minute drive north west to the Atlantic coast you will find the sunny beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. And to the south west, still just 40 minutes, there are the beautiful beaches of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. With many more but unfortunately we haven’t visited them all!
With Cognac a 35 minute drive, tours around one of the famous Martell, Hennessy or Remy Martin distilleries are a must.
Just 50 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of La Rochelle, a must for any shopper! La Rochelle has a wonderful ambience with many restaurants bursting on to the pavements. Seafood is of course the speciality. Just 60 minutes to the stunning Île de Ré. With wonderful shops to browse round at Saint-Martin-de-Ré and an amazing choice of pavement cafes and restaurants, all looking on to the harbour. Île de Ré has many beautiful beaches and more wonderful quaint villages to wonder around.

Lovely house

We spent a week as a group of four friends at the house. The house was lovely, the pool and the yard really nice and Catherin very welcoming. We enjoyed our time in Crazannes a lot.

Calm and relaxing family venue

We had a wonderfully stay. Everything we needed had been thought of and our hosts were on hand to deal with any queries. The accommodation really suited our needs and the shaded gardens and pool provided a relaxing setting for our holiday. Local shops made it easy to stock up on essentials and we were close enough to explore La Rochelle and Ile de Re. A very pleasurable break.

une maison de pierre à la belle charpente au milieu des arbres

C'est une élégante maison de pierre dont les fenêtres donnent sur d'immenses arbres aux innombrables oiseaux, où se promènent également quelques écureuils. C'est un enchantement, même par temps de pluie, ce qui fut en partie notre cas lors de notre séjour, l'été ce doit être le paradis. La maison elle-même a préservé son côté ancien avec pierres à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur, le rez-de-chaussée est une grande pièce avec une partie cuisine comportant tout le nécessaire d'un côté, avec un poêle à bois et la télé et des canapés de l'autre côté, c'est un espace agréable ouvert sur les arbres, un escalier conduit à l'étage aux trois chambres, parquet de bois lumineux et belle charpente apparente. La maison tourne le dos à la petite route qui la longe, n'ayant aucune ouverture de ce côté, si bien que les bruits du passage sont à peine audibles. De la maison, on rejoint à pied la Charente en un quart d'heure, c'est la possibilité d'une longue promenade le long de la berge et à travers des champs où l'eau affleure. Les propriétaires habitent la maison d'à côté, à la fois discrets et disponibles si nécessaire. Les diverses informations utiles figurent sur des fiches claires.

Entspannung pur

Die Ausstattung des Hauses ist überdurchschnittlich gut, so dass man hier auch an Regentagen die Zeit mit Kochen, Backen, Spielen oder Lesen vor dem Kamin gemütlich verbringen kann. Und noch besser bei gutem Wetter: ein Garten in überbordendem Grün und vor allem das große Schwimmbad laden zum Verweilen ein. Bekannte Sehenswürdigkeiten wie romanische Kirchen und Festungsanlagen, malerische Dörfer und die Atlantik-Küste sind nicht weit. Ein wunderbarer Ort zum Entspannen, zugleich Ausgangspunkt für viele Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Region Charente-Maritime.

Heerlijk verblijf!

We hebben een hele fijne vakantie gehad! De gite was netjes en schoon, net als alle andere faciliteiten. De bedden sliepen heerlijk en er was genoeg vermaak in de omgeving en bij de gite, ook voor onze dochter van 1 jaar. Catherine is heel erg aardig en behulpzaam. We raden dit plek erg aan als je een rustige en relaxe plek zoekt.

Maison très bien équipée, calme, espace important entre autre pour les enfants. Bémol, nombreux moustiques qui gâchent un peu le plaisir mais dont les propriétaires n’y peuvent rien. Manque aussi de documentations malgré qu’il y ait internet, et les syndicats d’initiative. Propriétaires très discrets et agréables.

Wunderbarer Urlaub in Crazannes!

Wir haben eine sehr schöne Woche im Haus "La Bergerie" verbracht. Unsere Kinder haben den großen Pool und das geräumige Haus genossen. Wir haben viele Stunden auf der sonnigen Terrasse zugebracht. Haus, Garten und Pool sind sehr gepflegt. Vielen herzlichen Dank an Catherine für diesen schönen Urlaub!

Sehr entspannter Urlaub

Wir hatten eine tolle Woche in Crazannes. Sehr netter und hilfsbereiter Kontakt, thank you Catherine! Kanu fahren, Surfen auf der Ile d‘Oléron am Grand Plage und abkühlen im Pool, der von 10 bis 19 Uhr zur Verfügung steht. Das Haus ist geschmackvoll und perfekt eingerichtet, auch in der Küche ist alles vorhanden.

Utterly charming!

After several years of trips to Cornwall and 'easy' package holidays with our young children we decided they were old enough to cope with the drive to this part of France - I only wish we had done it years ago! Not only was the drive much quicker than I remembered but La Petite Bergerie made it the extra special holiday that I was hoping for. It's a beautifully restored and exquisitely (but also very practically) furnished property that we instantly felt at home in: large comfy sofa, large dishwasher, masses of seating inside and out etc. Every inch of the property was spotlessly clean and the bottle of wine / welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated. The gite was larger than I expected and the outdoor area was stunning and had plenty of shade for hot days. The play area was a plus for my children (8 and 11) who made friends with the little girl staying at 'L'Olivier' next door and had a lovely time playing and swimming together. Having said that, the other property is very private and you wouldn't have to socialise -but I'm sure we will return in future and try to book both properties at the same time with friends or relatives so that we can take full advantage of the set up with the two properties. The surrounding area is varied, interesting and attractive. I was seduced by Port D'envaux - our boat trip was a highlight. Shopping in Saintes was a guilty pleasure, and for the kids the bouncy castles/mini boating lake at St Savinien were a bonus. A similar park area in the UK would be overrun and unpleasant, whereas here you have space, clean facilities and the tranquillity you rarely get with any kind of kids' activities at home. Although the weather was not as hot as expected for this time of year I actually found it perfect and we managed to eat outside / BBQ most evenings. We only stayed for one week as we moved further inland for the second week, however, I could have quite easily wiled away a fortnight - just lovely. Catherine was an excellent host - friendly yet completely professional. She brought us some home-grown goodies one evening, and has been a pleasure to deal with. Many thanks!

One of the most perfect relaxing holidays ever!

When we arrived at La Bergerie it was just so perfect in such a beautiful setting. Exactly as described, it was exceptionally maintained to the highest standard with good quality and beautiful bedding. We arrived much later than expected but this was not a problem for the owner Catherine who met us. The property had everything you would ever need to make our stay very comfortable. The pool and surrounds were spotless with more than enough comfortable loungers for everyone. We would certainly recommend this property to friends and relatives and indeed intend to go back. The pretty town of Saintes was a joy with lots to see and visit with a choice of good restaurants for lunch and dinner. Lovely countryside for walking and cycling. Our only disappointment is that we had to leave!

La Petite Bergerie was absolutely gorgeous. We loved everything about the property and location. Catherine and Terry have thought of everything to make your holiday stay perfect. The pool and gardens are such a pleasure also. We visited so many lovely places locally and out to the coast, which is so worthwhile and not too far a drive. Bordeaux is a fantastic city with so much to see and do. We would highly recommend the property and the area of the Charente region. Annette, Tony &a Miriam, Dublin

Stilecht auf dem Land entspannen

Wir verbrachten unseren Sommerurlaub mit zwei Familien in der Petit Bergerie. Alle waren begeistert vom Ambiente des Hauses. Die Bilder geben das Innere wahrheitsgemäß wieder. Alles ist sauber und die Ausstattung ist mehr als zufriedenstellend! Außerdem ist genügend Platz für zwei Familien im Haus vorhanden. Dadurch, dass es zwei vollständige getrennte Bäder gibt, kommt es beim Duschen zu keinen Engpässen. Die Außenanlage ist gepflegt und großzügig. Daher bekommt man von den Nachbarn im anderen Haus nicht viel mit. Vor dem Haus befindet sich eine schöne, große Holzbank-Garnitur. Man sitzt dort sehr schön. Wir haben die Mahlzeiten vor unserem Haus immer genossen! Der Pool ist schön gelegen und bietet das ideale Ambiente, um sich perfekt zu entspannen. Es sind ausreichend bequeme Liegen vorhanden. Der Pool ist etwa 10m lang. Der Ort Crazannes ist sehr klein und beschaulich. Immerhin kann man dort seine Brötchen kaufen. In der Umgebung gibt es viel zu unternehmen. Besonders gut hat uns Saintes gefallen. Der Ort ist nur 15 Minuten entfernt und wirklich sehr schön. Außerdem können wir La Rochelle und eine Fahrradtour auf der Il-de-Re empfehlen. Insgesamt der perfekte Ort, um zu entspannen.

Beautiful property and grounds. Perfect for a fami

The property was absolutely lovely and exceeded expectations. It was fully equipped and the play area outside was an added bonus in keeping our two year old entertained. Catherine and her family were extremely accommodating when we needed an earlier check in and went out of their way to ensure everything was ready. Fab property.

We arrived here with our young family in 2003 with the intention of giving it a go for 5 years and we're still here!
We came here from Surrey, so the pace of life has slowed down considerably, not only is this a great holiday destination it's a great place to live too.
Both our children loved growing up here, they've only known the French school system so are far more fluent than either of us!

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

When we first saw this property and the beautiful garden we knew this had to be the one.
The huge draw was the the fact that even though the 'gites' were little more than shells used for storage and garaging we could see they had massive potential especially as they were completely independent of the main house and each other. So each house would have it's only private space.
The location is perfect, not a huge drive from the UK and when our guests arrive there are lots of interesting places to visit including some amazing beaches within a short drive.
It was a top priority that our guests would be comfortable as although generally the climate is warm and sunny it's inevitable that some days may not be so bright.

The thing I remember most was during our second viewing of the property, we were sitting on the terrace and could hear the church bell chime midday, beautiful! So very peaceful and our girls have often said how lovely it is to sit and listen to the birds, as there are so many trees in the garden there are certainly no shortage of those!
