Luxury Guardian's Cottage with private heated pool and river access, Chez Bigot

The Guardian's Cottage at Chez Bigot features two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and all modern facilities. Sleeping between four and six it is suitable for a family or a group of friends.

The front door leads into a light and spacious open plan dining and sitting room, with large patio doors leading to the private terrace and garden.

Stone walls have been exposed revealing original candle recesses and oak beams used in the construction of the cottage. Modern comfy sofas (including a king size bed settee) and restored furniture from the region compliment each other to create a relaxing living area. WiFi, numerous board games and TV with a DVD player are provided.

A traditional stone built wood-burning fire takes centrepiece and in season warms the entire cottage, making the Guardian's Cottage suitable for winter lets.

The modern kitchen has views to the river and is equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and plenty of work surfaces if you would like to try preparing some of the local dishes.

The first bedroom has a king-size bed, wonderful views out of the patio doors, antique furnishings and a large en-suite bathroom (with both bath and shower).

The second bedroom has an antique French double and single bed, modern en-suite bathroom (with both bath and shower) and patio doors to the courtyard with the heated pool and decking, which is a wonderful sun trap.

Both bedrooms are complimented by cotton bed linen, duck down pillows and plenty of wardrobe space.

Outside, the Guardian's cottage has plenty of space. There is the heated pool, a large decking area, enclosed courtyard and lawn and great views over the meadows, woods and the river beyond. The fenced in gardens and pool offer plenty of privacy within a secure environment.

Stylish garden furniture is provided, and whilst the garden receives sun all day, there are shade sails, umbrellas and shady areas to escape.

This is a large Gite (120 sq meters) with only one small step, providing a child friendly environment.

Mary and family are very accommodating beautiful cottage and surrounding areas, beautiful walks down the river, not everyday see buzzards high in the sky or owls in the trees honestly can’t rate this high enough, will definitely return, piegut just a short drive away with a beautiful market, honestly faultless Mary even brought us homemade pizza which put the icing on the cake

Charming place to stay.

We had a lovely stay, a charming gite with everything we needed. It was so quiet. Mary kept in touch regularly and we felt veey welcome.

Amazing!

One word: fantastic! Mary and Sam are friendly and very helpful (including providing guidance in the area, making restaurant reservations and after an incident with a dog). House is wonderfully spacious and the pool is great. Lots of privacy in the enclosed garden which the dog also enjoyed very much. House and garden enclosed by large private grounds

Lovely gite tucked away in quiet countryside

The best thing about the Guardians Cottage is definitely Mary and her husband Sam. They are really lovely and very helpful. The garden is gorgeous and the pool was great and bigger than we expected. The gite itself is big. 2 very large bedrooms, a very large lounge diner and a big kitchen. It also has 2 very large en-suites, one with full bath and one with a walk-in shower. There was plenty of hot water! There is a washing machine that was easy to work despite being a French model 😄. It's located down a bumpy lane which was fine in our car but don't go in a low sports car. It's really quiet with just the occasional sheep in the background or the odd chicken. Mary brings you fresh eggs which were delicious. It's about a mile into the nearest village of Busseroles and has good connections to the bigger roads to get out and about. A minor disappointment was that there was no welcome pack. A pint of milk, some bread, cheese and butter would have been appreciated, especially as we didn't arrive until 7pm-ish. Just a minor point though. Overall a great gite, completely private, in a lovely location with smashing owners.

Superb

Stunning location with beautiful walks around the owners land. The Property was beautiful and very well equipped. The garden was also beautiful with a lovely big pool. The local village is charming with a nice Bar/Restaurant and bakery. Location is great for visiting local villages, towns and cities by car. All in all a mixture of relaxing and exploring was perfect and Mary was amazing !!!! Would definitely recommend

Excellente location

Nous avons été ravis de notre semaine à Busseroles, que ce soit pour l'accueil de Mary, la maison spacieuse pour nous et nos 3 filles, ainsi que le jardin! Une piscine privée de très belle taille et aucun vis à vis si ce n'est les moutons... très reposant! La propriété est entourée de verdure et on ne remarque ni les occupants de l'autre cottage, ni les propriétaires... vraiment très bien situé! Nous recommandons +++

Another amazing trip to this fabulous place

Wonderful as always!

You'll be lucky if you can find a free week to stay here - we've been returning for 5 years and have already booked again as many other visitors do! The helpful friendliness of the hosts, the beautiful, peaceful location and a private pool make this our perfect holiday spot. The local area also has much to offer with markets, restaurants, etc. Just add the best weather and it can't be beaten for a totally relaxing, get away from it all, break from the rat race!

Problem Internet & TV

This is a lovely location and property. The accomodation was excellent and the pool and garden lovely. Also the surrounding countryside beautiful. Our only issues were the Internet and TV. The internet is shared with the owners house, our Gite and I believe the other Gite. When we arrived the other Gite was unoccupied. We were able to access Netflix etc. After a few days the other Gite became occupied, and thereafter we were unable to receive a signal to allow us to access Netflix, Amazon etc. Also the TV signal also dropped off ,so did not have TV for most of the stay. I suspect too many people accessing the systems at the same time. Its small issues but important to our evening entertainment while on holiday in such a rural location. Despite this we really enjoyed our stay.

So tranquil, so relaxing

We had a wonderful two week stay in Gardians Cottage this September. Mary & Sam are the perfect hosts and the cottage is spacious and very comfortable. The whole area is so tranquil, set in the Perigord National Forest the views and countryside are stunning. What more can I say, next year is already booked, it was so relaxing.

perfect in every way

What can I say the cottage was so spacious the pictures don't do it justice. The location, garden etc. was just as described, a little stroll down to the stream for the children to play and us to paddle. Feeding the pigs, sheep and chickens was lovely, the pigs used to come scampering up when they heard us coming, so friendly. Mary, Tom and family were so helpful, I can honestly recommend it as a truly great place to stay

We stayed here in september, and only the weather was bad, for the rest our stay was very nice. Lovely place, quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay with our twins and will definitly come back(hopefully with good weather, so we can enjoy our glass of red wine next to the wonderful swimmingpool).

Wonderful setting & beautiful family friendly gite in rural Dordogne

We absolutely loved our week at Chez Bigot, the hosts were extremely knowledgeable about the area & helpful in giving us tips of things we would enjoy. They have renovated the Gites to an excellent standard with real charm & practicality. With a baby and toddler in tow they provided everything we needed and we had so much space to roam and explore. We loved our week here (despite being a little unlucky with the weather) and wouldn't hesitate in rebooking. Perfectly set up for 2 small families, there was shade arranged outside when the sun did shine but the cottage remained cool. The pool was fab too, and extremely safe with young children. A wonderful part of the rural dordogne, but close enough to visit places such as Brantome.

Perfect peace and relaxation

Lovely gite and location

We stayed in Guardians Cottage. All the rooms are very generous in size and well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Mary and Sam were so helpful and always there to offer advice on where to go if needed. Having our own pool was great and it was lovely and warm and clean. Evenings were spent walking down to the river to do a bit of fishing (we caught quite a few) and drink a couple of cool beers and then later, back at the gite sitting in the garden watching the little owls feed their young. There is so much wildlife to see, so many places to walk, rivers, lakes , some lovely old towns and villages and a really good market just down the road a few miles.

Delightful rural retreat

From arrival we were made to feel very welcome by the owner. She gave us lots of information about the area and helped us book a table at a charming farm restaurant nearby where we enjoyed an exceptional meal. The property is beautifully restored and was immaculate on arrival. The set up is ideal with a private garden and pool. The area flourishes with wildlife with a stream nearby and fields and woodland on the doorstep. The cottage was larger than expected and ideally suited to a family or two couples both bedrooms having en suites. V well equipped. Perfect for walking, cycling and canoeing with the local markets being exceptional and great for food lovers. We'd be very happy to come back possibly with a group of friends as there is another cottage over the way. Thank you Mary for a lovely stay!

Beautiful, authentic, calming stay - highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed in Chez Bigot for 1 week in September 2016 for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely perfect! Everything from the idyllic location in a beautiful village, to the cosy cottage with all the facilities you could need, as well as the amazing pool in your own garden. Mary and her family were extremely helpful and kind, giving us top tips for what to do in the area including recommended restaurants. We spent our time walking in the stunning countryside and national park that surrounds it, sipping wine and reading in the sunshine amid blissful peace and quiet, canoeing down the river in the evening sun, exploring French markets, and venturing out to neighboring villages to taste the amazing cuisine. It was pure bliss!! I am a vegan so the only thing I will add is that the region is famous for foie gras - a "luxury" food created by force feeding geese with metal rods until their livers swell. I HIGHLY recommend Chez Bigot - but please - stand up for the geese, and steer clear of the foie gras available in the restaurants.

Spacious quiet holiday home in rural France

Guardian's Cottage is a well converted farm out building. It is a lot more spacious than the photos suggest with it's own garden and a private patio area with heated pool. Mary and her family are very welcoming and keen to ensure you have a great stay with them. We are keen cyclists and this is not an area of France we had visited before. We were surprised at how quiet the roads generally are, and there is some excellent road cycling, but it is lumpy! The villages around are quite quiet but there is a choice of supermarkets within 20 minutes, and Limoges, Angouleme and Perigeaux are all less than an hour away. Overall we would thoroughly recommend Guardian's Cottage if you want a very comfortable peaceful holiday away from the crowds.

Beautiful and welcoming property

This is the second time we have stayed here and love the condition and quality of the place. Mary and Sam are very welcoming and helpful, and the cottage itself is wonderfully well kept. The land around with the river is such a lovely place to wander through and paddle in, while the chickens make for entertaining company! I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone else, and we look forward to returning
