A heavenly setting for this very private feeling white cottage with its own small pool, amazing views and a short scramble down to the sea
Where else would you find a mountain surrounded by ocean attached to the mainland by a strip of land, and a magical view of two islands? Monte Argentario is the most spectacular piece of coastline along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Escaping the tourist crowds of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, Isabella and Roberto named their paradise La Maddalena after the striking ancient watch tower at the edge of the property. It's a huge adventure to get here: the road twists and turns through hills strewn with brush, broom, cypress and pine to a steep rugged track and a breathtaking arrival. You're high above the crashing waves in a wild landscape, with stunning sea views. You stay in a stone cottage, beautifully restored and there's not another building in sight. The inside is simple, cosy and well-equipped with terracotta floor tiles and mosquito nets over beds. Bask in your own sparkling pool and private outdoor space. Impossible to leave? There are pine forests to explore, coves to swim, seafood to delight in, and ferries to the Isle of Giglio.

As advertised, the views are absolutely amazing. This is the place to be if you want beautiful views, peace, and tranquility. The charming villa is rustic with modern conveniences. We enjoyed home-cooked meals and sitting on the deck under the pergola and the palm tree. The traditional Mediterranean landscaping completes the peaceful scene. Quiet. Easy to relax away from the busy modern world. But close enough to explore Porto Santo Stefano and take the train from nearby Orbetello.

I’ll start with the good things, of which there are 2: the view is absolutely stunning, and the secluded location of the villa is perfect. All the rest is absolutely terrible, especially at the price tag of the villa. First of all, the pool is not a solid structure but a waist-deep fabric makeshift. The bed mattresses are cheap thin abominations with a waterproof inlay, which with a lack of air conditioning in a 30-degrees heat by the end of the week makes you sleep in a pool of your own sweat. Did you just read there’s no A/C? Yes you did! Be wary when reading the property description, as there is indeed no air conditioning installed at this top-rated villa. Hosts will tell you this is a conscious choice aimed to match the rhythm of nature (I think they are not sincere). Wi-Fi is terribly slow. There is a lot of rusty wire sticking out of different pieces of furniture, be careful not to hurt yourself (I wasn’t). On the property you will find 6 sunbeds, but not a single parasol - which one would think could be useful in highly heat with no A/C. Also, about a week before the check-in hosts will inform you have to dispose of all your trash before you leave (a 20 minute drive one way to the nearest waste disposal point). They will also try to take an additional cash deposit, and charge you the excess of use of electricity - reverting these demands when confronted. The biggest problem is that for a top-rate price tag you are getting a comfort and the service of a 3* motel. Sad.

Isabella & Roberto's home is absolutely amazing. They were incredible hosts and we had a lovely week at the villa. Some of the best views in Monte Argentario. We can't wait to get back!

Grandios

Unser Urlaub in diesem entzückenden Ferienhaus an der italienischen Küste war eine echte Oase der Ruhe und Privatsphäre. Die Tatsache, dass es keine Nachbarn in unmittelbarer Nähe gab, verlieh unserem Aufenthalt eine besondere Exklusivität. Jeden Morgen konnten wir den Tag mit einem Frühstück auf der Terrasse beginnen und dabei den atemberaubenden Ausblick auf das Meer und die Ruhe der Umgebung genießen. Der private Pool bot uns die perfekte Möglichkeit, uns an heißen Tagen zu erfrischen, ohne dabei auf andere Gäste Rücksicht nehmen zu müssen. Abends waren die Sonnenuntergänge über dem Meer von diesem abgelegenen Fleckchen Paradies einfach magisch. Dieser Urlaub war eine wahre Flucht aus dem Alltag, die uns die Schönheit der italienischen Küste in völliger Abgeschiedenheit näherbrachte. Wir werden diese einzigartige Erfahrung noch lange in unseren Herzen tragen.

Traumhafte Aussichten

Wir habe uns in dem schönen Ferienhaus unglaublich wohlgefühlt. Der Blick über die südlichen Klippen des Monte Argentario sind wirklich atemberaubend. Ca. 150 Höhenmeter unter dem Anwesen befindet sich ein lauschiger Privatstrand, der mit etwas sportlichem Einsatz in weniger als 15 Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar ist. Ein traumhafter Urlaubsort, unbedingt zu empfehlen!
