We are so sorry that you felt the need to leave a negative review, my very first at this property in over two years. We made the decision to not refund your reservation, because you elected to cancel at 11:30pm on that night. My spouse and I were ready to meet you at the house from 1pm-12am that day. You asked for an early check which we rushed the housekeeping staff to get the house ready by 1pm for you knowing that you were in town for a funeral which was in another city one hour away. Then you elected to come to the house late. We made numerous attempts to checkup on your arrival with no success. You waited until 11:30pm to call us claiming that you felt afraid. The family across the street are kind and wonderful people. They are not loud nor do they bother anyone. With 10 adult children and half of those married, the family spends Friday night together for dinner, not a family reunion. A few more cars than normal park along the street. As they get ready to leave their parents home, they often will converse with each other in the yard or next their cars. And they always leave by 9pm. Again they are never loud, bothersome, or nosy. In fact, most of them do not speak English very well and in their shyness come across standoffish. Once you speak Spanish to them, they are filled with congenial spirit. Needless to say, we regret that the family gathering seemed out of place for you. Had you arrived at 12pm to put your luggage in the house or 1pm when the house was ready (early as you asked), then this situation would have never happened. When your sister called me, I offered to come over right then(less than a 5 minute drive) to help you get in the house with no worries. Your sister told me that you had already settled in a hotel. I asked your sister to please cancel the hotel and let me meet you at the house. She said she had an VRBO and knows that these things happen. She then wanted to know if I would be open to a refund. I agreed that we would post the availability on other platforms to see if the house would book for that night or the other which you reserved. I did so to no avail. The house sat empty for the weekend. If I gave a refund to everyone who on a whim decided to change their plans, didn't keep their word, or wanted to take advantage, I would be out of business. You booked the house well in advance, had time to check out the property, the area, etc. You waited until 11:30pm to cancel. That really disappointed us!
