Region: Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.
Town: The picturesque Montgomeryshire landscape is home to Newtown, which has a bustling art gallery, museums, and a variety of bars and restaurants. It is situated on the banks of the River Severn. Theatr Hafren, one of Wales's top theaters, is located in Newtown and offers a variety of family-friendly entertainment, from comedic performances to opera. Explore the Norman Motte and Bailey castle ruins in the charming old county town of Montgomery, stroll through the famed Gregynog Hall's Grade I listed formal gardens, or head to the renowned Powis Castle and Gardens, which Prince Charles frequently visits. The award-winning restaurants, cosy pubs, and charming shops in the mediaeval market towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow, as well as festivals and markets, such as annual Christmas markets, can be found there. Ludlow also has over 600 listed buildings and Ludlow Castle, so there is something to do all year long. The Roundton Hill Nature Reserve and Iron Age Hill Fort in neighbouring Churchstoke is a haven for biodiversity and the habitat of numerous native British birds. When the weather is fine, the 370-meter top offers a 360-degree panorama with expansive views of Shropshire and the high Welsh ranges beyond. The Centre for Alternative Technology and the Machnynlleth Golf Club are located in Machnynlleth, a small town nearby. While the sandy beach at Ynyslas is ideal for a family day out, the charming seaside resort of Aberdovey on the breathtaking Cardigan Bay shoreline is a heaven for watersports aficionados. Within an hour's drive of Newtown, all of these and more can be found, making it an ideal getaway all year long.
