This was the perfect getaway place to unwind. I was raised in the area and it felt wonderful to get back and enjoy the beautiful countryside for a few days. This place is located down a very quiet, country road. The land has gentle, rolling hills. The cabin has been beautifully remodeled with modern features, while also maintaining the charm of an old cabin.Katy is a wonderful host and has thought of everything you may need for your stay. We enjoyed walking the entire property and petting and feeding the animals. The donkeys and horses were so tame. They would walk up to you for pets and snacks. Their sweet cat would greet us when we came or left the cabin. It's just a few miles into Montalba where we had a delicious lunch at Bebo's meat market.For NYE dinner, we drove into Palestine and ate at the Queen Street Grill. They had a chef in from Houston and the food was to die for. We meant to sit out by the fire and take a dip in the hot tub on our 2nd night, but we laid down to take a quick nap about 5:30 pm and didn't wake up until after midnight because the bed was so comfortable and it was so peaceful and quiet out there.It was the perfect place to relax, spend some time in the beautiful outdoors and enjoy each other's company. A little piece of Heaven on earth. I highly recommend!

If you need a get away, feed the horses and donkeys Vanilla Wafers, then this is the place! The Cabin is so well thought out with the guests in mind. We had such a relaxing time, just what we needed!

Our stay was nice. Although we had 6 of staying. The cabin says it could sleep 6. The hideaway bed is not sleepable. I would advise to replace the springs with a memory foam mattress or change the amenities so that it can only sleep 4. There also needs a sign on the table that says you need to turn the hot tub on before you get in it. We went out the night of our stay and it was cold or swimming pool temps. There wasn’t any internet and couldn’t watch any tv. And I was okay with that. Although the cabin was very nice and clean and had everything we needed.

Wonderful stay!!! Definitely recommend!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Henry’s Homeplace! These pics are nice, but it was even better in person I promise! Hosts were amazing as was everything about the cabin, property and animals they share with you. We will definitely be back!

Childhood memories relived!

We booked this one night stay to spend the night in town after our visit to the Texas State Railroad. It was the first listing that came up and I immediately recognized the property. I grew up just down the road from here and my parents still live there. The sweet widow lady that lived there in the late 80’s and early 90’s would cook an amazing breakfast for me and my best friend who used to ride our horses to her house every Saturday morning. Years later I actually cut hay and learned a lot of life lessons on this property. It was an awesome experience to get to share all of this with my daughter, best friend, and her two kids last night! The house was absolutely perfect, from linens, to the coffee! Reading the little book of all the guests that have stayed over the years was really cool. I feel like all of them got to experience a little bit of my childhood too. Some to escape life for a little bit, some to celebrate an anniversary, and others just for a quiet day in the country. Our host was amazing and made us feel welcomed from beginning to end. Although I don’t think I have ever met her growing up, I knew her husband’s grandmother….she was the sweet lady that would never take no for an answer to the offer of a home cooked meal. That ended up turning into an every Saturday event.

Amazing escape

The cabin was super cute! A lot of extra necessities in case you forgot something. The feeding the horses and donkeys was so much fun. Relaxing under the stars in the hot tub at night was one of the best parts.Everything was super clean and the host were awesome!

Perfect, Perfect, Perfect!!

My wife and I booked a 2 night stay and really enjoyed our time there. The cabin is quaint and cozy…had everything we needed, plus more! The outside space was so peaceful. Woke up our second morning being greeted by the horses and donkeys. The hosts left us a box of vanilla wafers to feed them which was such a special experience. The hosts were gracious and kind and far exceeded any expectations we had. We will be returning for sure, next time with the kids in tow! Thank you so much Sonny and Katie Beth. It was just the pick-me-up the wife and I needed!

Great short stay

We came for the eclipse and Katie was a great host. Everything was as stated in the ad and more. She even left us snacks and wine. We enjoyed seeing the animals. We wished we had more time to fish and feed the donkeys! I highly recommend.

Relaxing

This is our second visit to the property. Katie Beth and Sonny, the owners, are so accommodating and the house is everything as described. Great adventure for the kids to pet the cows, play with Cowgirl the dog and property is gorgeous. You won’t be disappointed if you are looking for a quiet place in the country.

Our group stayed 4 nights in the Henry Homestead cabin and enjoyed it very much. Everything was as described and the time in the East Texas forest was great.

Anniversary getaway

Very nice and quiet place for a small getaway. Host was excellent to communicate with. Palestine was not far away with excellent dining locations.

The Henry Family has had this property since the early 1900's. Grandma and Grandpa Henry built the home after their wedding in 1935 and raised 4 kids there, all of which Grandma delivered in the home! Grandma lived there until 2004. Over the years it was remodeled and additions were put on the front, back and side of the house.

We recently realized that it was time to do more work on the house and decided to get it back to as close to the original home as possible. We removed the additions and used the original floor plan with the exception of the adding a bathroom in the center of the cabin. We salvaged as much of the old wood from the house and used it as we turned back time to create our new original home.

We were blessed to get to do much of the remodel on our own with some help from an amazing local contractor. We found layers of old wall paper, boards tied together with old tobacco cans, and even messages written on boards in both chalk and pencil! This home has so much history and we hope to get to show you some of the super special things that we were able to save and include in the build when you visit!

During the week we live in a small town north of Houston, but are usually in town on the weekends. We have a home on the property that is set back behind the cabin, so if it's a weekend, we may get to meet you and give you our suggestions for great restaurants and gathering places!
