Beyond Lamlash, Arran has plenty to offer. Just a short drive away is Brodick, the island’s largest village, home to Brodick Castle, Gardens and Country Park. This grand castle, managed by the National Trust for Scotland, is set against the backdrop of Goatfell, Arran’s highest peak. The surrounding parkland offers wonderful woodland walks, and the castle itself boasts fascinating history and beautifully maintained gardens. For outdoor lovers, Goatfell is a must. This iconic mountain provides a challenging but rewarding hike with stunning island-wide views from the summit. Alternatively, for a more relaxed adventure, visit Glen Rosa, a peaceful glen with scenic walking routes and waterfalls.
A short drive south takes you to Whiting Bay, a lovely coastal village with access to Glenashdale Falls, one of Arran’s most spectacular waterfalls. Nearby, the Giant’s Graves offer an interesting historical hike with impressive coastal views. On the west coast, Blackwaterfoot is home to Shiskine Golf Club, one of Scotland’s most unique 12-hole courses. From here, you can explore King’s Cave, believed to be the hiding place of Robert the Bruce, or walk along the dramatic Machrie Moor Stone Circles, a fascinating prehistoric site. Arran is known for its excellent local produce, and Lamlash is no exception. Enjoy fresh seafood at The Drift Inn, or visit The Pierhead Tavern for a hearty meal with live music.
Across the island, you’ll find the Arran Distillery, famous for its whisky, and the Arran Cheese Shop, where you can sample delicious island-made cheeses. Arran’s small size makes it easy to explore. Take a day trip to Lochranza, where you’ll find the ruins of Lochranza Castle and a beautiful coastal setting. Or, hop on the ferry to Kintyre and explore the rugged coastline. Beach 15 minutes walk.
