Loved being there from the first minute. The apt is the ground level of the owner's house; he is not often there. The cottage next door is also a rental, which during the two weeks we were there was only occupied on weekends. The property is 3/4 mile up a gravel road, half way up a hill, and thickly wooded, with a stream below. The road (route 71) is on the other side of the stream, and though you definitely hear it, you don't see it much. Mostly, we listened to birds, the stream, the wind in the trees. We were there the last two weeks of July, during which there was two-day smoke invasion from Canadian fires, but because we were up so high, it was cooler and the air was cleaner than, say, in Great Barrington, a 15 minute drive away. In addition to the wonderful porch (mosquito free!), there are deck chairs and a fire pit below. The apt itself is beautifully equipped; the owners have anticipated almost every need. The kitchen, though small, functioned perfectly, the air conditioning works, as does the internet--the latter very important in an area with notoriously poor cellular service. One chilly morning we turned on the gas fireplace, and we mastered the Vizio tv service and enjoyed the large screen. Beds a trifle soft for us, and it would be wonderful to have screens so that AC could turned off and the mountain air ripple through, but you can't have everything! Overall, a great place for a getaway, with proximity to both nature and culture. Five stars, definitely!
