3 Bed in Leominster (oc-r30485)
This charming timber-framed cottage is steeped in history and surrounded by mature gardens, and set in the beautiful landscape of the National Trust’s Bircher Common – this really is a magnificent setting for a restful escape. Offering breathtaking views across the open countryside as far as the Clee Hills, the property is perfect for families or couples wanting a rural escape. From the cottage, you have direct access to Bircher Common, with Croft Castle and Parkland just 2 miles away, both attractions cared for by the National Trust. Berrington Hall, which is another National Trust gem, and Mortimer Forest are both within 5 miles. For days out and adventures further afield, the picturesque and informative Black and White Village Trail is easily accessible and visits nearby Pembridge, Eardisland, and Weobley, all within 15 miles. Visit the market towns of Leominster, Ludlow, and Hay-on-Wy, all within 25 miles.
Access to the cottage is via a rural track leading directly off Bircher Common. Use the rear access and step into an open kitchen/diner. This room features a fantastic fireplace with a beautiful antique bread oven, impressive beams, and a wonderful wood burner so you can enjoy a crackling fire while you cook. The lovely dining room has pretty flooring, traditional-stye dining chairs alongside a fantastic statement settle bench, a magnificent antique that’s been in the family a long time. It’s one of several antiques in the cottage that were purchased by Norman Davis, former mayor of Leominster and one of the founders of the local museum – this property is truly filled with local heritage. From here, a small lobby with a cloakroom and access to the front porch offers additional space for muddy boots and coats. You also have a ground-floor cloakroom WC for convenience. The lounge feels open and welcoming, and offers a second wood burner for toasty, atmospheric evenings, plus a Smart TV. Deep windowsills offer views across the Shropshire Hills, and French doors provide access to the gardens. Climb the staircase, situated in the hallway, to the first floor’s spacious landing, leading to the three magnificent bedrooms and a family bathroom. The beautiful king-size room enjoys dual-aspect views of the gardens. The spacious zip-and-link super-king-size bedroom offers flexibility and can be made into a twin – please request at time of booking. The final bedroom is a comfortable and welcoming twin. All bedrooms have antique furniture in keeping with the elegant, traditional cottage. There is a family bathroom with a stand-alone bath, separate shower and WC completes the interior.
Outside, the cottage has established gardens with well-stocked borders, a patio area with a table and chairs for summer dining, and a charcoal BBQ. There is private parking for two cars and storage for bikes. The jewel in the crown of this retreat is that you have direct access to hundreds of acres of National Trust land which you can explore on foot from your doorstep. Please note, this retreat is in a stunning, very rural location. As the approach is via an off-road track, 4x4 vehicles are recommended in winter and low-suspension cars may struggle all year.
